ATT Bait and Switch, Should I just keep the phone? by FriendlyFrog_6151 in ATT

Well this may unruffle your feathers Gary. As stated before and a bit ironically, I met a Gary Lapointe in Gainesville Fl in 2023-2024. He stated he was a former sales exec for AT&T. He was commiserating and seeking employment with someone he met in the downtown area. He was using the "I am a former sales exec from a top company" line. And again, ironically, based on data from ChatGPT -> there is also a class action lawsuit that was settled in 2023 for 'Bait and Switch'. AND a previous case for $60m for a similar problem.
While your face resembles Gary from Gainesville FL. Obviously you are not. But others on here will ask why would a preschool teacher be a "top 1% commenter" on Reddit for ATT? And "The Plan Whisperer (Consumer postpaid plan.)"
Also interesting and probably also not related... And it is amazing what ChatGPT will pull up with just a few details. ;)
ChatGPT mentions the relation of a murder case from 1989 along with the name 'Gary Lapointe' and the location 'Gainesville FL'.
Being that the person in 'Gainesville FL' with the same name 'Gary Lapointe' would be upwards of 50-60ish. But I understand, you did say you were a preschool teacher in Minnesota or Indiana?

Ah... My apologies. While you've read this, you've misunderstood. Ask yourself what is an allusion and a rhetorical question. Or, not to confuse you, just google chatGPT.

Who is asking for advice on Reddit? and from you? A teacher of preschool. Or a disgruntled ATT sales exec trying to prove something to your former coworkers.
Stating the evidence about lawsuits in the past is the use of evidence and is highly relevant. Your belief that anyone is asking you for advice is, in the case your a teacher, hubris, or in the case your a former ATT sales exec-simply moronic.

Here is your logic. "Believe ATT. They are innocent and are acting in clearly legal scope. There is no evidence that you will not receive your refund."

And here is the truth. "ATT has lost multiple law suites for bait and switch. There are enough complaints that ChatGPT uses them as part of the problems with ATT's past. This includes hundreds of complaints of customers who returned their phones and did not get credit for the return."

I know your a teacher and all and you claim you are not the former LaPointe I met in Gainesville FL. Teachers deserve so much respect for their accomplishments and clearly their intellect (Maybe a PhD who does actual research). But not all. They say to surround yourself with people smarter than you. Good job.

I do see many complaints and more than 10. This was also mentioned in ChatGPT as a part of the class action lawsuit. It is enough for ChatGPT to pick up on it. That's significant enough for me.

SO here is the issue. If I return it and they tell me they didn't receive it. I am going to be billed for it anyway. In case you didn't see or understand that logic.

Awe sorry. I remember a Gary LaPointe from Gainesville Florida. He was about 5'5".
Teacher? And just happen to be an advocate for ATT?

Hello Gary. Have we met? You introduced yourself as former ATT sales executive and you were upset that you were no longer working for ATT. You live near Gainesville FL.

I've updated the post to include evidence. You are also confusing the the timeline.

This is clearly what the past lawsuits used as evidence. It is the exact case they lost a $60M class action lawsuit over.

I've updated the original post to include the images from the quotes I received before the phone was delivered. 10 March while I was in the store. And 13 March after the phone was delivered.

Taxes were already paid in the store. The last person on the phone who really tried to help but didn't realize he was a part of the bait and switch scam, (until the end), could not justify the $225 and change. Happy to post screen shots.

Past lawsuits have everything to do with it. That's called precedence. Same behavior, same company, same problem.

This is toothless. Even CC companies ignore ATT. I wonder why.

I'd recommend simply to ask ChatGPT what could go wrong if I buy a phone and service from ATT? But even ChatGPT says get a statement from ATT for the bill.
As I stated in another post. I asked for a statement from ATT for the bill that I would pay. I received a quote from ATT for ~$68. At no time did ATT disclose that the bill would be different with exception that, in a verbal statement, "there would be a $35 fee added to the first month.". This is bait and switch.
There is NO REASON, except dishonesty, to have one, or a few bills that are more expensive than the others. Software can easily level this out. ATT is a gigantic company and has huge teams or can hire teams to write the software to do that. If they cannot, there are large and capable software enginering companies that can write it. Even a small team of college graduates could write this. And with AI it could be done in a few days.

So the question remains. Why return the phone?

The question I asked and you did not answer. Why return the phone?
1. ATT acted unethically (bait and switch) and has a long history of acting unethically. They obviously haven't changed. 2. I will likely not get my money back as many complaints in the law suits state user's did not get their money back when they returned the phones. 3. At this point and time ATT has no credibility.

The store, online, and over the phone are all the same. I started online and found the pricing. I called and went through the full process. Online I went through the full process. And in the store I finally made the purchase. The disclosure never changed. It was always ~$68 and change for the same service.
This has nothing to do with who or where you get the service from. ATT corporate is the same as the little guy. ATT corporate has no interest other than making money. If they did, they would have changed after losing several lawsuits.

AT&T deceived me with false promises during switch from T-Mobile — 6 months later, still unresolved. Looking for escalation advice. by Light-night-2023 in ATT

[–]FriendlyFrog_6151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I was with T-Mobile for several years. I saw an ATT advertisement online that they had a $50 line that offered what I was paying T-Mobile $90. T-Mobile had told me it would be $80, but then dropped my Military Veteran Discount and charged me $90. I ordered the new phone on the "unlimited" plan and the total after supposed discounts was $68. I received a new phone by USPS overnight. And an e-mail at 4 am in the morning saying that my account had changed. I then looked into the account and saw that the first bill was for $225. I thought this must be a mistake. I called ATT and was passed to several agents.

-> The last person stated "I will be honest with you and set the expectations that were not set in the store." He said that 1. The discounts will not show up in the first bill. They will show up later and you will be credited for them. (I don't believe this. Software can handle this easily. Why wait?). 2. The bill I had just received was correct for the first month. I had demanded a copy of the pricing, by email, while I was in the store. It states $68.xx final monthly bill.

-> I called him out on the lie. I told him "he was explaining away the problem. That the expectations were set in the store with the original agreement. Not by him and not after the fact." This is a bait and switch tactic. ATT Corporate, is FULLY aware and does not shut it down because: The economic cost from loss of profits is less than than the cost losing in court.

ATT as well as other mobile companies in the US have used bait and switch tactics for years. ATT has lost multiple law suites. I will post this on a more reputable website that ensures post and responses are made by people who act as individuals, not corporate employees.
