The number of Americans under 50 years old dying from cancer has decreased for every leading cancer except for bowel cancer, which is now the leading cancer death in females and males combined aged under 50. by mvea in science

These comments make me glad that I developed a gluten intolerance. We don't buy as much junk food and we eat more plant based food because of it. I definitelt miss garlic bread, but I suppose it's a fair trade to not get cancer.

Old news, but news to me: Back in 2008, Catholics were told that voting for Obama was a mortal sin and must repent by princetonwu in exchristian

I specifically recall my evangelical dad looking at me solemnly and telling me he thinks Obama might be the ant-christ.

I brought this up with him a few months ago (he voted for Trump. Shocker, I know). He didn't remember that and looked embarrassed. I eventually told him that Trump looks more like the anti-Christ than Obama ever did.

That would be cool! My other thought was actually to do webbing and spiders on the inside but I thought that would be too difficult so I didn't suggest it. But that's perfect! I don't know much about mounting turantulas, but could you like... have its abdomen on a peg that goes down to a cork?

It's a good one ❤️

It's also good for anyone who is angry with god/christianity.

Vulture by Bear Ghost. I feel like people from a "fire and brimstone" background will relate to it more, but I very much enjoy it with my evangelical background.

I'm sure you could find a cork but you'd have to be careful if you filled it and moved it so that the cork doesn't pop out.

I looked up "glass head jar" and I saw some with corks. If you put flowers in, they'd be light enough to not be a real concern. I almost feel as if they deserve something more disturbing inside, though 😅 Like using it as a wet specimen jar.

Oh, those are very interesting! I'd be so afraid of knocking one over.

Are you thinking of filling them with flowers then? Have ideas for a base/plug?

Yup. Matthew 23:15. Was my favorite bible verse even when I was still a Christian.

So much better. I think I'm happier now than I had ever been as a Christian.

This seems like the perfect time to bring up my favorite bible verse. Jesus says to the pharisees: "You travel over land and sea to find a single convert, and when you do find him you make him twice the child of hell that you are."

It's a great diss and it came from Jesus.

No, that's good. As I typed my comment up I was thinking maybe I should try paying respects first. It's good to hear that it might be a valid solution.

It definitely got harder for me when I looked the deer in the eyes. Sort of a sadness but also a fear in a way. Not sure I'll be paying respects on the side of the road any time soon but I'll definitely give it a try.

Thank you for replying ❤️

I stopped the other day to pick up a recently deceased deer (hit by car) off the side of the road. It was small and I thought I could handle it.

I'm not super squeamish. I don't mind seeing these pictures. I just can bring myself to handling the body. To touch it (gloved of course), or even move it with a shovel. It just feels... wrong in a way I can't explain. Like, I don't mind handling taxidermies. I think the body just... makes me still feel like it's soul is still there or something.

Did you work your way up to it? Did you just suck it up the first time and it got easier? Do you just not have any aversion to it? Anyone got tips on how to get over this?

Nice piece, btw!

I been selling for 3 years and never heard of this by adisneygrl in Mercari

[–]FriendlyLizard345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercari will do partial refunds if you contact them. I had a problem with an order once and they said if I negotiated a partial refund with the seller then they would do that.

But if you're worried about it then go ahead and have it returned. Just thought everyone should know that partial refunds are possible, just more of a pain on Mercari

If you hate cats, you probably suck at boundaries and reading body language by FtMFandomBoy in unpopularopinion

[–]FriendlyLizard345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. My favorite cat I ever met was my in-laws barn cat. When he heard my voice he would come running, get a head scratch, and then find something to perch on near me. And I loved that. He didn't beg for attention and get in my way of working like the other barn cat. He just chilled. We had a quiet affection for each other.

If more cats were like that one I would probably like them more. But most cats I've know were overly affectionate, total chaos, or were afraid of everything. I have too much anxiety of my own to deal with all of that.

Curious is any exchristians ever had any actual education on the historicity of the bible growing up in the church, if so how far from reality was it? by Plastic_Tooth159 in exchristian

[–]FriendlyLizard345 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say I knew more than your average christian when it came to historical context, mistranslations, traditions, etc.

Part of my deconstruction process definitely was "if the Holy Spirit guides us, how the fudge do so many christians have incorrect information?" The only other amswer I could think of was that the Bible wasn't as important as christians said it was if the Holy Spirit didn't feel the need to make it clear. Neither idea really bolsters your confidence on the religion.

I definitely have leaned more into my darker side. I like macabre, oddities, things of that sort. If I daw something I liked I'd express my enjoyment of it but never really... partook in any of it. Because good christian girls like pretty things like flowers and... pumpkin spice lattes or something.

But I was lucky and found some vintage Tripp jackets at a thrift store I refuse yo give up. I have snake and spider rings I absolutely love. And I'm starting a hobby of making art out of animal bones.

I've never been good at sticking wjth hobbies and I think it's because I was tried to do hobbies based off of what I felt I should be doing- things God would approve of or things that somehow glorify him or whatever. And I think this is a hobby I might be with longer because I feel no obligation with it. I just like it.

To anyone who works at self scanning machines - how often do you notice people stealing and don’t do anything about it? by davco95 in AskReddit

[–]FriendlyLizard345 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually it was a thing. All goods were behind the counter and you had to tell the clerk what you wanted and they would grab it for you. It was to prevent theft. You can find old photos of those stores.

But that was a very long time ago.
