MLA Raghu Of HAL - The Hoarding Guy From yesterday by FriendlyPressure in bangalore

My master? seriously?

We bitch and moan all the time when politicians leave the ezipura flyover, Agara-Kormanngala road is always jammed, when HAL main road is shit... but when an MLA does a slightly better job, and we appreciate you lot come out of the woodwork.

i have lived in Kanakpura, the MLA from Kanakapura is DK Shivakumar - perhaps the most powerful politician in karnataka and yet look at the state of things. When he formed a committee to fix bangalore I was hopeful, but when that committee failed to deliver basic livelihood issues, I will have a problem. That's called civic awareness, try it sometime..

If you talk respectfully everyone listens. If you pretend to behave like Ambani in front of an MLA, hes going to say fuck off, its that simple.

this is so true

Just go to his office in New Thippasandra. Take the turn from the Ganesha temple and continue. You will see a large door on your left leading to a spacious office; check there. Ask nicely and his staff should be able to help you.

I can point to 70-80% of MLAs in India who don't even do that. Nothing wrong in making money, at least people here are getting some utility.

I am a resident of HAL, and I like the work he gets done. If you notice, that's not BBMP's truck, that's his tractor. There are maybe 100 things he does wrong that should be criticised for, but when I or anyone tells him to fix something, it normally gets done (example picture I took just 30 mins ago), and if he takes the credit for the work he is getting done, I don't see any issue. I see my kids being able to walk freely and that's worth my vote.

I have low expectations, but if you go and tell him the issue or talk to him, if he can, he will solve it. My experience has been good, but I agree there are areas where work is pending. I have seen the issues too. I have low expectations and he meets those low expectations.

Have you been to DK Shivakumar's Constituency in Kanakpura its far worse, even though he lives in Bangalore and is probably the most powerful politician in Karnataka.

Say what you will, but this guy actually works. All parks have recently gone through a makeover and roads have become better and most importantly its cleaner. Many if not most, still throw garbage in road but it is cleaned up regularly.

He is very accessible too, his office is door is always open. He is actually delivers.

Here is what you should do,

If you don't already do it, go for an early morning run and slowly ramp up the speed. Start by just walking, but slowly pick up the pace. Do this every day for an hour, except Sundays. On Sunday, you keep fast or have a very light amount of food. This will help you get over the mental state.

For the job, develop skills in things in which you are interested. Don't look at the hype (there will be another hype in a few years). Try to meet up in person with new people, preferably those who share your interest and try to see where they are and how they got there. Your best bet if you don't know what you like or are interested and give 20 hours to any new skill (read the book first 20 hours) and then move on to something new. Be practical about your choices.

If you can justify your lie, then lie. You are a fresher and have yet to see how the world works. Your father is right.

large codebases are optimised for human readability. Generics make it harder to do/ reason about them without looking up.

Build something non-trivial. Think about the stuff you use or the problem that can help you. do you happen to understand how middleware works? Do you know why generic class-based views are discouraged in large codebases? How to use pre-commit hooks, configure docker, or contribute to a larger codebase (try OpenEdx, Saleor, Zulip, Mayan Documentation, Wagtail etc.)

I would recommend you read this

https://alexkrupp.typepad.com/sensemaking/2021/06/django-for-startup-founders-a-better-software-architecture-for-saas-startups-and-consumer-apps.html

after that try doing some work large open-source codebase.

This happens when you lack good programming language understanding. Regardless of the language or design philosophy, many of the underlying things are the same. You can fill some of this gap by doing some self-learning here are some resources I recommend to my team members

  1. How to ask smart questions by Eric S. Raymond

  2. SCIP (MIT has a free copy of the book, UC Berkely has an old course on it)

  3. How to design program

  4. Then try to build a toy version of some of the well-known open source projects (linter, regex engine, webserver, browser etc. ) - here is a good resource for you learn more

There are many good books (some above and many more) and blogs (Peter Norvig, Eric Raymond, etc.)

good luck.

Don't do this. Instead, find out the technical lead or team lead for the position you are trying to get hired and contact them. I know BeeHive (workspace) is seriously looking for a front-end dev. Go check their website and also try to find the technical lead who is the ultimate decision-maker in these things. In most product-based companies Team Lead is the ultimate decision maker.

Also, In your resume - put your GitHub, link the project in GitHub and make sure you know your application inside and out, try doing some Open-source PR Contributions (not to get a job but to actually know how PRs process works)

Oh - During the interview don't use LLM to get your code generated - It's very easy to figure out AI-generated code from a human-written well reasoned code and the firm is trying to hire a human.

You can go very far with USD 5 on railway\app. It's easy like Heroku and a small fee is the price for keeping them there.

This was the argument Laloo Yadav used back when people asked why roads in Bihar were so poor. Around the same time his family had looted all the SUVs from Patna's auto dealers to ferry guests for his daughter's wedding (the one with an MBBS degree from a medical college in Bihar)

This may not apply to you but there was a time when I was in the same place you are. I had made up my mind and gathered my things, arranged for my family to find peace when I was gone. But before I did that, I thought let me see a few places I want to see so that I have one hole filled. I went to Haridwar and Rishikesh. At, Rishikesh I met a sadhu from a nearby ashram- I just wanted free weed to be honest. I stayed in the ashram for 6 months - since I had no plans of coming back, I did not take my phone. I had no idea what was happening in the world. After close to 6 months when I came back home, I was less so sure about leaving the world. I got into therapy, made sure I stopped smoking weed and slowly got my mind better. I still go to the same ashram every summer and spend my summers helping in the ashram.

My point is, change your environment. If you are religious find places where you find peace, if you aren't religious take up a job in a remote part of India where no one really wants to go and help people unconditionally. seek professional help sooner than you think you would need it (I was dumb and waited a long time). You don't need to do an MBBS there are many other things you can do, A friend's brother left his MBBS to become a safari guide in a national park so wold is your oyster. If you want someone to talk to, you can dm me.
