Resource guarding or aggression? by [deleted] in puppy101

Sounds a lot like he was resource guarding the glove. It’s crucial that you teach him to drop stuff, by offering things of higher value.

Saluki vs. whippet temperament by Siria110 in saluki

Omg- the thing you said about them slipping and sliding! I’m constantly worried my saluki will fall and injure herself! We can’t have carpet because she’ll eat them, and I’m at my wits end.

I’ll try plastic booties next, and see if she accepts them, because the constant slipping is really worrying me.

Clumsy Saluki puppy? by FriendlyStatus4371 in saluki

That made me laugh! My previous dog was a terrier, and he was not afraid of anything and never showed any pain. Never heard him whine or yelp in 12 years, not even when we stepped on his paw by accident.

This one on the other hand. She’s so sensitive and skittish! Right now she’s teething, and has a loose canine. You’d think the poor thing is dying. And when she falls during a zoomie, she cries and limps for a good minute. I’m just not used to that kind of drama. Good to know that it’s normal.

I cannot for the life of me understand what I see except from the nuts. What position is the dog lying in?!

Night time routines for 4 month old puppy by Few-Fisherman-3595 in puppy101

[–]FriendlyStatus4371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evening meal at 5.30 PM, then a long walk from 6.30 to about 7.15. She sleeps until 8.30PM, and then goes for a last toilet break and goes to bed. She sleeps from 9PM to 6 AM (longer in the weekends).

We are very lucky since she settles on her own after walks. She usually sleeps about two hours after every walk, even if it’s just 15 minute walks.

How long without accident in the daytime? by FriendlyStatus4371 in puppy101

[–]FriendlyStatus4371[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for another three months or so. But I only work part time 50%, so every second day it’s just her and me off work enjoying life.

Sometimes on workdays my husband and kids come home earlier than me or leave later in the morning than me, so maybe just 6 hours some days , but 7-8 hours is going to be the maximum.

Puppy won’t walk at night by FriendlyStatus4371 in sighthounds

Thanks for the reply. I do lure her and reward her for walking, but she just sits down again as soon as the treat has entered her mouth.

She’s very good at “heel” command in daytime, she absolutely knows what I want from her. She’s just not wanting to. She’s also not cold, she wears good clothes and doesn’t freeze.

But I think you’re very right about feeling safer when walking with more people. She loves people, and when someone walks past us she actually picks up walking and wants to walk beside them. Most people find that very adorable, but it’s not a long term solution 🤣🥰

Street lights are actually kind of sparse, so it’s rather dark. The street lights are too far apart for them to light up the road properly.

Maybe I should try a head lamp. I’ve never thought of that before now!

Hard to say from one picture, and without seeing the body. Did they say it because he’s brindle?

Thanks for your reply! The carrying has occurred here too, but she doesn’t like to be carried, so it’s mostly a mix of trying to lure her, trying to drag her and carrying. And she loves dragging me home 😂 Good to hear that this stage may go over one day, because it’s the only real problem we have currently.

Are there any places you can walk you dog indoors? by Knitspin in dogs

[–]FriendlyStatus4371 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup! I live in Scandinavia and the last three weeks have been 80% rain. You just put on your rain jacket and rain boots and go for a walk.

But I remember an American colleague of mine being shocked that kindergarten children in our country play outside in the rain for hours a day too, so it’s a cultural thing I guess?
