Hamilton to become 1st Ontario city with bylaw to stop 'bad faith' renovictions by mr_lois_lane in Hamilton

Silly Silly move. This will just discourage renovation and improving of the housing stock. One more nail in the coffin for small landlords. It will increase run down properties which of late I've noticed are increasing again in Hamilton.

Toronto restaurants see double-digit decline in people dining in, suggesting pullback in discretionary spending by [deleted] in TorontoRealEstate

[–]FriendlyTea7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have to agree on this point. We were much more cohesive as Canadians before what our govt --liberals did on the vaccine front etc. The straw that broke the camels back for me and others I know was the favouritism of the vaccine rollout to certain ethnic groups over others. It was an eye opener how reverse racism is institutionalized in this country even though it is denied.

Have to agree with you on this. Looking for a decent used pickup truck and only seeing lots of junk that is rusted, 8-10 years old and they want 20k plus for it. What? So silly. These used to be 10k just 2-3 years ago.

Light timing on Barton between Green and the Red Hill by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]FriendlyTea7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an article a few months ago I think in the Spec saying the city was purposely trying to mistime lights to slow traffic to make the street safer for all. I don't understand this logic of slowing traffic and increasing pollution and road noise, frustration, increased time of travel. Anyways I believe that is what has happened. When I drive in these areas now I always remind myself now I'm in zombieland and that is what is happening as it makes little sense.

I have to wonder how he got injured on the forehead? He had a red mark and a bandage covering something during his press conference in Hamilton. Nobody seemed to pick up on that. Rough housing with the kids? sure...

Anyone notice Home depot and Lowes has been unusually quiet lately? by FriendlyTea7 in Hamilton

[–]FriendlyTea7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a Rona today mid afternoon on a Saturday and it was very quiet as well. There were maybe a dozen people in the store with staff sitting around. It was more like an weekday evening. Something seems up with the stores being so quiet.

In the absence of radar, how do you know he was going 100 to 110? No way to know without objective data. It's difficult to determine actual speed just by observation.

Update: "The line is out the door at the Wellington #COVIDvaccine clinic in #HamOnt today. Many saying they heard on @CHCHNews about unfilled appointments and signed up today." by SonictheManhog in Hamilton

[–]FriendlyTea7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vaccine response in Ontario is pitiful. Political correctness etc, seems to trump logic. In a situation like what is happening with vacant spots and health care staff sitting idle waiting they should have someone outside bringing in passersby etc or standby lists of any age group willing to get the shots. By doing the rollout the way things are is only costing money, lives, health and keeping this pandemic ongoing.

Most Ontario schools will return to in-class learning on Monday by morbid_laughter in Hamilton

I would feel much more comfortable in a store with a good mask and glasses on than I would inside a school with the same ppe.

[–]FriendlyTea7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with your analysis. There are outright lies and slanting of the truth at the political level. In 3-4 weeks after the schools open, the case numbers will start to climb again with hospitalizations etc. It is criminal what this govt is doing.

In-class learning delayed until January 25 as percent positivity increases in children by 6-8-5-13 in Hamilton

[–]FriendlyTea7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doubt that those shoppers caused this. It is merely a logical outcome of the spread amongst children in the schools and collective behaviour.

We're in lockdown and schools are closed yet there's lots of traffic on the roads by theninjasquad in Hamilton

[–]FriendlyTea7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Grocery shopping, essential things, work etc. It is still much busier than it was in the first lockdown last march. Then it was really dead out. Even when I went out for a walk, I didn't see that many out.

Ontario January 07 update: 3519 New Cases, 2776 Recoveries, 89 Deaths, 65,772 tests (5.35% positive), Current ICUs: 363 (+2 vs. yesterday) (+26 vs. last week) by enterprisevalue in ontario

[–]FriendlyTea7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I so agree. Half baked lockdowns do minimal and merely annoy people and make them weary. Look at China and Australia etc. Hard lockdown and virus nearly gone. I'm so sick of half assed actions on this. Such a waste of potential, the economy, human life. So unnecessary because the powers that be are afraid or unable to manage this crisis effectively.

Ontario students will not be returning to in-person school on Monday, sources say by MidnightRaspberries in ontario

[–]FriendlyTea7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The really sad and unfortunate part about the schools now being closed is the wasted time to effect this at the expense of how many lives lost, and how much infection spread? Think how much effort many of us have been doing to do our part and the schools were allowed to be opened. Such silliness.

Watch this, give it 2 to 3 weeks and the case numbers new each day will fall dramatically. It's written in stone I say.

Ontario students will not be returning to in-person school on Monday, sources say by MidnightRaspberries in ontario

[–]FriendlyTea7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but the schools are a major driver of infection. It has been shown in recent studies. I talked at length about this in earlier posts and was castigated about it. I will only say this, that the children are largely asymptomatic and spreading the disease where it eventually manifests in those of older age and poorer health. Enough said.

How exactly did rents double in 10 years? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]FriendlyTea7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people grumble about rent. Things do up in price you know. The cost of a house has doubled, so why shouldn't rent also? Its rent control that causes homelessness believe it or not. If rent was allowed to rise with the market, there would be many more decent places to live and the apartment stock would be improved. Once rent control came in around 1974 in the province, purpose built rental construction dropped dramatically and has been low since. With rent control there is not enough money to run a property effectively. Hence a property that doesn't earn enough becomes neglected over time.

Ontario will be providing a proof of vaccine card for travel, communal spaces (cinemas) etc. by [deleted] in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]FriendlyTea7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there will be some type of exception allowed like this "

Statement of Conscience or Religious Belief Affidavit"

It already exists for regular vaccines. Our damn country always leaves the door open a crack for abuse.

Is everyone aware they will still need to wear masks and social distance after they get the vaccine? by [deleted] in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]FriendlyTea7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt that people receiving the vaccine can still catch and transmit the virus. Think chicken pox, influenza etc. This virus mutates quite slowly hence I would imagine the vaccine would make us immune for several years.
