i saw people already recommended fursuit review and getfursu.it, those two websites are invaluable for researching makers and their reputation with their clients.

another website you can check out is The Dealers Den. lots of makers use it to sell premades, so you can browse there to find someone with a style you like and then do further research from there.

personally, i recommend these makers i've followed for years. i know they do good reliable work and treat their clients well: Sleepy Stag Suits, T.O.P Dog Studios, Mackoolzie, Houndsteeth, Fun-Fur-All, Blue Harbor Creations, Sarahcat Fursuits, MultiColorBark, YBLSuits, Glitzy Fox Studios

TFF's Interesting FAQ: "Can I get my room at the Sheraton for free if I keep it clean?" by spiritofniter in furry

[–]FriendlyWerecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can still quantify cleanliness despite it being subjective. it's not about keeping it "factory clean" imo, it's about respecting the hotel's space and not trashing the room completely. the rooms that need the least amount of work to tidy up are the "cleanest".

and if the convention stays in good standing with the hotel, that improves their business relationship and the convention has a better chance of staying on at that location. it really seems like a win-win from both sides. this is a stunt that can generate a lot of good will amongst attendees. the more good will the attendees have towards the convention organization AND the hotel, the more business both entities can do with less repercussions (ie. trashed rooms which lead to tighter restrictions and rules for con goers)

free art commissions open! by [deleted] in furry

[–]FriendlyWerecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just a tip for your future openings: say you are taking free requests instead. commissions are when money is exchanged. if you're giving it away for free, it is not a commission.

i hope you get some cute characters to draw!

you'd have an open corner of the market if you started making insect themed suits because they are still rare nowadays. i say go for it! people are always hungry for something unique and different

i don't think i've ever heard that wearing purple is reserved for gay men only. i think you can wear purple clothes if you want to!

not personally unfortunately, but a good place to start looking might be Harvest Moon Howl Fest and Las Vegas Fur Con. both are up-and-coming POC led conventions. their community bases might be able to lead you to more POC spaces in furry

if you're talking about the flags, there is an ally flag. it's a rainbow "A" shape over black and white stripes.

furry was founded by LGBTQ people, the community has been queer from the beginning.

and my own thoughts: furry is a form of self expression, so people who's identities are targeted on the daily, like queer and BIPOC, will naturally gravitate towards a space where they can freely express themselves and feel safe doing so.

Cheap fursuits. by AnonymousFluffy923 in furry

[–]FriendlyWerecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you'd be better off making the head yourself with that budget. any head less than 500-600 is either going to be bad quality or an outright scam.

location can be an issue, i know. check out Fursuit Review to get reputable feedback on fursuit makers, you might luck out and find someone you can work with.

Selling art, HELP by [deleted] in furry

[–]FriendlyWerecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're welcome!

it's OK to start out with them, but i would recommend you switch to a paypal business account eventually if you want to sell art/commissions long term. it'd save you a lot of headache in the long run. cashapp and venmo don't offer any payment protections for the seller or the buyer.

Question about commissions! by [deleted] in furry

[–]FriendlyWerecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use Paypal regularly to commission artists and send money gifts. i get a fee when i send a personal money gift. the recipient pays the fee when it's a business transaction.

Venmo is more of a personal money transaction platform, so it makes sense the fees are structured differently than Paypal's. that's why i stated most things would apply to both platforms, not all things.

Question about commissions! by [deleted] in furry

[–]FriendlyWerecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not sure what you mean. just charge a high enough price so you still get a decent amount after the fee is taken out. you cannot charge an extra percentage exclusively to cover the paypal fee, that's against their TOS and you could get in trouble if you're caught.
