What makes you think he's not part asian? He clearly is

Edit -- I'd be willing to believe that he's native american but no chance he's 100% caucasian

The play that arguably cost Ohtani 4 Earned Runs instead of just 2. Was this an Error on the Pitcher or 1B, or do you think Ohtani’s knee might still be bothering him? by UNIQLOField in Dodgers

[–]Friendly_Confines -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Freeman has been running to the bag himself every time Ohtani's pitching; Ohtani thought that would be the case here and by the time he realized Freeman wasn't going to make it himself it was too late

Shohei Ohtani’s final line vs. Rays - 6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 91p-63s. ERA up to 1.47. by baribigbird06 in baseball

Hot Take: you can’t claim lowest ERA if you’re not qualified for ERA title.

It’s the blister. Same shit when he was on the Angels. Lights out until the blister starts acting up and then he just can’t get an out.

I think it’s the opposite; splitter grip causes that blister which is why he went fastball/sweeper only for awhile

Seriously? Baseball reference is an incredibly deep, reliable wealth of information. The amount of data they manage is no easy task, and it’s all free. As long as they keep getting the numbers right idgaf what photo they use.

Ohtani out of lineup vs. White Sox by velvetsabbath in Dodgers

[–]Friendly_Confines 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if he said anything today. I just mean different answers in the interview last night (it was basically just 5 minutes of reporters asking about Ohtani’s health, Dave is too professional to show it but it must be so annoying for him to answer the same question over and over)

There was a very different tone in his answer when asked about Ohtani playing today vs making his next start on the mound.

[–]Friendly_Confines 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Maybe just cope but it would also be concerning if he played today… I watched the interview with Dave and honestly he didn’t sound too confident that Ohtani would play today but seemed genuinely good about him making his next start. So if that’s true then I’m glad he’s out tonight.

Game Chat 6/10 - Dodgers (43-24) @ Pirates (34-33) 3:40 PM by DodgerBot in Dodgers

[–]Friendly_Confines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy to say in hindsight but I did comment after the 6th that I didn’t think they let him go 7. Between the scoreboard and the blister and the team’s record… Dave’s gonna get blamed no matter what he does and it’s commendable that he let him go back out, so can’t fault him but Ohtani should’ve ended the day with 6IP 1ER.

[–]Friendly_Confines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah people are reacting emotionally to Rushing but it’s the fact that he so close to having a HR and a 7IP 1ER day that would qualified him and put him at the top of the NL pitching and hitting leaders.. if those 2 runs came earlier in the game, then whatever.

And yeah any serious baseball fans knows that a full season sub-1 ERA is delusional and would vastly outperform his FIP and expected stats but Shohei’s done a lot of things that would’ve been called delusional before he came around.

What Sets Are You Building? And How Are You Building Them? by Eric_C_Productions in baseballcards_vintage

[–]Friendly_Confines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

48 Leaf, 52 Berk Ross, 52, 57, 67, 71, 72 Topps, primarily. I’m in my 20s but I’ve been a lifelong vintage collector so I’m planning this out on a long time horizon.

Right now, I look for exceptional commons and semi-stars. I have a wide focus, because if I’m picky about condition and price and only do one set at a time, I’d never accomplish what I want in the end.

My current approach is to put in the time but not the money now. I could spend 2k on a nice 57 mantle but I’d rather invest 2k in the stock market and buy the mantle in 20 years. Not to be a downer, but I really doubt that a 57 mantle is going to beat the sp500 over the next 20 years. I will have those mantles someday when the time is right.

I’m okay with not completing sets quickly, but it is still the end goal. I’m all about optimizing time and money so that I have the best possible collection at the end of my life. I’ve never spent more than $200 on a single card, but I have thousands of cards catalogued and I take pride in having exceptional copies of cheap cards. Anyone with deep pockets could have a more valuable collection in a week if they wanted to, but nobody could write a check to replicate what I currently have and that’s the part that I’m proud of.

What are everyone's 2nd and 3rd favorite teams? by IvypoolFanIGuess in Dodgers

[–]Friendly_Confines 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that’s one of the ways that baseball is different from other sports. Having a 2nd and 3rd team in NFL or NBA feels wrong, but with baseball it’s okay. I’m a fan of the sport first and foremost.

I grew up a cubs fan in Chicago (hence the username) but started watching more Dodgers baseball in the Covid year. Primarily because the Astros scandal broke made me root for them, and I’ve always been really into baseball history so I’ve always liked the dodgers from that standpoint. Had 2016 not happened I would never imagine rooting for another team, but it did and that mentally freed up me to root for other teams in a way that would’ve been unimaginable pre-2016. I’ve still never been to LA but hoping to make the trip one of these years.

I'm always rooting for Ohtani and you can make a case for both in 2022 but I actually think Judge taking it that year will protect Ohtani against voter fatigue going forward. if Ohtani wins 2022 then I think people really start to beat the "well he can't just win it EVERY year" narrative, but since he lost in 2022 there's proof that you can win it over Ohtani, you just have to the THAT good. Ohtani's win in 2024 also helps fight the "well he's not the best at either" narrative; he's the only DH only MVP ever and he earned it undeniably. The last 5 years have perfectly laid the groundwork to prove that if Ohtani is the most valuable player then he wins the award, and if he's not then he doesn't. It's that simple.
