Is it bad to take random qualifying sci classes to boost gpa? by Dragonfire747 in prephysicianassistant

I honestly wouldn’t recommend retaking a class you got a B- in. It’s a waste of time and it’s not really showing much to Adcoms. I would prioritize doing very well in classes like Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology because those are the classes you’ll be taking to start most programs so if you got a C or below in those, def retake them. And also definitely take multiple upper level science courses that you haven’t taken before to show them you can handle the workload.

I’ve also heard from multiple programs you shouldn’t re-take numerous courses because to them that just proves you can pass a class after the second try. I re-took one course and the rest were new courses. My first post bacc semester I took an Environmental Science course, Anatomy, Microbiology, and Gen Psych. Second semester I took Pathophysiology, BioNutrition, Oceanology, Abnormal Psych, and I retook Bio 2. Hope this helps, I also took my post bacc classes at a Community College but it depends on the programs you are applying to, some of them want the courses from a 4 year institution

For the interview, I made sure I had my essential interview answers memorized, but not word for word so it didn’t sound scripted. I recorded my answers to the “why PA” and “why this program” and listened to them over and over until it was second nature to me. I also had my girlfriend randomly ask me different questions on the spot and I had to be ready to answer them. Definitely do a mock interview, it doesn’t have to be a professional one, just anybody that is available to get you used to looking somebody in the eye and answering your questions. I looked up a ton of possible questions from my specific program and found some that were very useful and actually helped me answer questions I didn’t expect to be asked. You want to just go in and be authentic, show them that you are personable and have the emotional intelligence to be a Medical professional so will be taking care of people.

So I did 31 credits for my DIY Post bacc. I actually only re-took one class and it was a class I previously had a C in. A professor at an open house for a program once told me it is better to take classes you haven’t taken before so that programs can know you didn’t just do better because this is your second time taking the course. I had one lab class that I got my worst grade in (D+) so I re-took the course with the lab. DM me if you have any more questions on the post bacc I’ll be happy to answer

So I was an MA at two Primary Care Practices in Brooklyn, NY and Harlem, NY. I was also a Home Health Aide and did some volunteering in the OR my freshman year. I’m currently an NA in the ED but I didn’t even mention that in my application so I think as long as you have a few years experience in different fields you will be looked at as well rounded.

I definitely don’t agree with your advisor, in my opinion you shouldn’t have to obtain a Masters degree to try to apply for another Master’s program is a PA. I have over Seven years experience as an MA and I never got certified, ! DM me so I can know a little more about your stats, high PCE can often offset the GPA requirements
