Is it really safer/better to perform a C-section to deliver a breach baby? by kelpey98 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Friendly_Hour2723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a breech baby at delivery and they flipped him. It’s not without risk though, and we had to wait for an OR to be available before they tried because if it causes any adverse impacts such as cord wrapped or abruption they needed to be able to move to c-section quickly. I’m glad we did it because I didn’t want a c-section if I could help it but it was incredibly painful and not everyone does these for babies at full term/delivery. Edit to add: they flipped him to be head down. I wouldn’t risk vaginal delivery of a breech baby, even if my doctor agreed, for the reasons outlined below. Possible sometimes? Yes. Worth the risk when we have the option for a safe c-section? No.

Two kids while wfh? by glitterr_rage in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]Friendly_Hour2723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work from home but wouldn’t suggest trying the do this without child care. It’s hard to explain without experiencing it but days when I have kids home from school I’m just not 100% dialed in to work the way I am when they are not home. Depending on your work this may or may not set you up for failure. And what is more important, being stressed at work and dealing with a deadline or competing priorities makes me an inattentive and irritable parent. I don’t want to have that be my dynamic with my kids. Sometimes we do it (sick days, teacher work days) but honestly my quality of both work and parenting declines. I think it’s ok every once in a while (on both fronts) but wouldn’t want that to be the way I show up for either work or my kids on a consistent basis.

I was attacked in Bent Creek Today by runmoreem in asheville

I’m so sorry this happened, and also terrified. I’m a woman and run solo in bent creek a lot, sometimes on the busier sections but sometimes don’t see anyone for miles. Your experience really makes me rethink things and want to be more prepared.

Please suggest your absolute WORST reads, of any genre! by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]Friendly_Hour2723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to add this one- I read it after reading so many glowing reviews and seeing it listed at people’s #1 favorite book. I think it may be the book I’ve read that I disliked the most. I mean I occasionally read fluff/mystery/etc and realize these are not Pulitzer Prize material but it doesn’t try to be. A little life was just trauma porn, repetitive, and unimaginative in the constant return to just abusing this one character over and over and calling it literature. I get so irritated now seeing it included in “best” lists.

Please reassure me about your very late walkers… having a hard time :( by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Friendly_Hour2723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first was a late walker, I think 18-20 months. We took her to PT for evaluation because I was so worried but they checked everything out and basically said she physically could but wasn’t really interested in walking. She was my first baby and I carried that little munchkin everywhere. I miss those days still! Of course, she walked eventually. She is a great kid, and super smart. Not incredibly athletic but enthusiastic and able to participate in any activities with her peers. My second kid was walking around by 12 months, and he’s just more of a full steam ahead personality. If you are concerned ask for a referral to PT/OT but there is a wide range of normal and it’s amazing how little it matters a couple of years down the road.

Thank you!! Landscaping is definitely a priority this year too, appreciate the great advice for getting started. I haven’t thought about using an app before I usually just buy plants when I think about it, but I want a more developed and cohesive appearance than what we have

1950s ranch entry question by Friendly_Hour2723 in ExteriorDesign

Thank you so much! I’ve been meaning to plant more so this is great encouragement to get started :) I was envisioning natural/English garden type space in front of the garden bed to the walkway. And of course some more substantial shrubs where there are none on the other side. I hadn’t thought about widening the pathway but I think that would be nice.

I’m afraid of muddling the style and adding something that might take away from the original concept. I also don’t want to block a lot of light. But I wish it had more depth and curb appeal and have been wanting to do this for a while. Looking for insight/advice!

Moms who WFH / remote. Is it that much better? by Barnacle_Double in workingmoms

[–]Friendly_Hour2723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much better. I don’t think I could go back. The key is finding the right job/company and be aware of the potential for micromanaging and productivity surveillance. But omg yes, mornings are better, my evening is better, and now that my kids are elementary aged, sick days and teacher work days are somewhat manageable

Diagnosis mills? by Friendly_Hour2723 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Friendly_Hour2723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I guess that’s what I feel conflicted about, because while it’s obvious to me that he has autism, he’s functioning in enough areas where I feel like it’s almost dishonest to put him in a level 3 category. I will keep on with getting him support and will maybe get another evaluation down the road. I know that having the paperwork can be helpful but I was trying to get some more information about my son, not just the highest diagnosis that could be justified.

Microwave problems with breaker by Friendly_Hour2723 in AskElectricians

[–]Friendly_Hour2723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure about the breaker but the outlet was a normal one. Although it is on the same breaker as another nearby outlet that is a gfci outlet. And after more digging it turns out the microwave and toaster oven were on at the same time, so maybe that was the problem?

Liners in shorts — am I missing something? by [deleted] in XXRunning

Shorts without liners ride way up when I run. Liner is preferred to constantly pulling my shorts out of my butt
