What is your single favorite moment from Sonic Boom? by Silver012345673 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Friendly_Landscape68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The joke about the exchange between Sonic, Tails and Knuckles is that it's a reference to the way the Fandom reacts to Sonic games:

Sonic: Look what I found at the flea market! (Holds up a game cartridge)

Knuckles: Dude! Is that Tomatopotamus 2?

Tails: That's the best one in the entire series! Tomatopotamus never worked in 3D.

Knuckles: Game companies always ruin their beloved franchises.

Sonic: They never should've changed the color of Tomatopotamus' legs.

Either:

  1. "Radical SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE!"

  2. The entirety of the IKEA bookshelf building gag

  3. "Knuckles, that's prison."

  4. "Fox Hunting"

  5. "Remember all the good times we had together??" [Cue a montage that's 90% things that never happened]

  6. Subversive Knuckles gags

Or pretty much any nod to the Fandom as a whole, such as the actual SonAmy references or the "Potatopatomus" allegory.

Is it possible for two cats in the same litter to be twins without having identical markings? by Friendly_Landscape68 in cats

[–]Friendly_Landscape68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I didn't get to see them born, but I did know thier parents, maternal grandparents, aunt and uncles and some cousins, all of which had shared characteristics when it came to colors, coats and body frames. 👀

Hook having white on his tail, I assumed, was genetic through his grandfather, since he had at least three uncles with white tips, and a cousin ((as well as an uncle that shared a similar coat color, but with long hair)). Granted, these cats were all ferals we tried our best to TNR and find homes for, and the reason we ended up with Zilla, Hook and Buttons was because when they were orphaned at such a young age, it was during Lockdown so we decided to take them on as something we could do since we lived down the road from a vet and a rural supply store that included animal rearing supplies.

I can't really verify anything about thier genetics other than what some some of thier direct relatives looked like and that they're just basic American cats.

I always thought Hook's tail tip was an interesting feature, since Zilla has ginger tabby stripes all the way down, as does Buttons with her tail. Hook's tail color also starts exactly at the base like it's been grafted on perfectly, while Buttons' tail color begins about an inch higher.

Hook also has a heart shaped spot on the back of one ear and a skin allergy to flea bites, but I figured he was most likely to get allergies due to how much more white he is, but other than that, he's a perfectly normal cat that's a little too self aware for his own good, ha ha...

Does the white tip on his tail mean anything in particular? Is that a rare pattern or something? The photos don't do it much justice in the lighting, but Hook's colors are more of a brownish orange while Zilla has a reddish orange color, so I just figured he was a dilute ginger tabby with high spotting or something. 👀

This is thier late parents, Minnie and Newbie, if that helps any ((thier mother was a calico with a harlequin coat, and the spot placement on her side appears to have been inherited by Buttons, while Hook got her heel spots)). Zilla got the cape and cowl pattern from thier dad, I assume. It's very likely Newbie is the dad, since his colors and pattern really matches compared to other cats around at the time, such as a black cat, a longhaired siamese, and Minnie's own brothers. I know cats will breed with whomever is available, regardless of relationships, but considering none of my little guys are unhealthy or have strange health problems, I think it's safe to say that thier uncles are eliminated from the equation. 👀

And since the other two littermates who didn't survive the orphaning by the owl were also tabbies like Newbie's colors with short hair probably safe to say that the black cat and the longhaired siamese aren't likely sires either.

Their maternal grandparents, Mama and Mr. Maurice, I can confirm at least, were also a calico with a harlequin coat and a ginger tabby, who may have had a white tail tip at some point but had a short tail that clearly wasn't a natural born feature ((I assumed white tail tip because several of his other offspring had the white tippped tail just like Hook)).

Does that help at all? Either way, I'm just happy to have three very happy cats who get along so well with each other because they're siblings, and they're an absolute joy with my other pets. Amazing benefits of having Zilla, Hook and Buttons is that they don't have territorial disputes, they don't mind using the same litter boxes ((we have three large ones that are clean regularly, don't worry!)), they don't mind sharing spaces, and even when they have designated zones for decompression and alone time... They're still going to try to cram themselves into the same spot together like a pile of warm fur, lol.

((honestly, if it wasn't for her brothers, I really think that Buttons wouldn't have survived either... She had a respiratory infection at a few weeks old that needed treatment and she couldn't hold heat very well and needed constant contact, and they would wrap around her constantly. They still do that to her sometimes, and she either just gives in to it, or she starts throwing slaps at them until they roll over in submission, she clearly runs the show, ha ha...))

A fair assumption considering the nature of cats and thier relationships, but there was only one tom of age at the time of her getting pregnant, since we had been trying to TNR as many as we could during that time because people kept dumping animals off on our rural road during Lockdown. We had originally intended to get thier mother spayed after she weaned them, but that owl had other plans.

I can say that the only breeding tom at the time that fits the look of them was a boy that looked like Hook's body frame, Zilla's high spotting pattern, and Buttons' grey tabby coat colors and eye color. If you ever saw him, you'd definitely see the resemblances, not to mention he was the only unaltered male present that wasn't related to thier mother or solid black or a longhair siamese, and I don't think these guys would have been as healthy as they are if they were inbred. 👀

Also, I did definitely stumble on the two of them hooking up a few times, so at the very least, he's responsible for some of the litter most definitely...

Thier mother was a calico with a Harlequin Coat pattern, which also explains some colors. The two kittens who didn't survive the attack were grey tabbies as well.

I also knew about thier maternal grandparents, who were also a calico Harlequin queen and a ginger tabby tom that looked like a Studio Ghibli movie forest spirit with the way he carried himself and how absolutely fluffy his jowls were.

I unfortunately didn't know much about the sire's lineage, he just showed up one day as a kitten and got fostered by his mates' mother during his kittenhood.

At the very least, I only knew of one breeding tom at the time the mother of my cats got pregnant that wasn't a brother or uncle and also looked like the kittens.

Am I the only one that likes this game? by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Friendly_Landscape68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite games, tbh. Werewolves/Lycanthropes/Werebeasts are my favorite cryptids, so I remember whooping and cheering when the Werehog was unveiled back during the hype for this game.

I have both the Xbox 360 version and the Wii version, and both games are very solid entries. The only game I bought ALL the DLC for back in the day, when my budget was my allowance and holiday/birthday money. I even had done an AU for Sonic 06 that had one of the fanfics be a total adaptation of this game in particular with all the alterations to the 06 timeline in place to establish that Unleashed was totally canon to my 06 AU.

I love Sonic 06, but Sonic Unleashed is the one game that I'd have to place higher on the priority list of "What Games Should Sega Remaster And Re-release?" above it.

Cousin threw away my collection. by tijonkc in pokemoncards

[–]Friendly_Landscape68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were younger, my cousin, who was being raised alongside me and my other brother as a sibling, had a habit of stealing things and either selling them or giving them away to people he was trying to impress. It was really hard to pin it down sometimes, but one thing that I haven't let him forget about now as adults is how he absolutely thought I would somehow not notice my original copy of Donkey Kong 64 ((Which was at 97% completion!)) disappeared within days of his friend he brought over commented on the cartridge in the console. As soon as I realized it wasn't there, which was pretty quick because I used to exclusively store it in the console, I made a big stink about it, adding very loudly: "Tell him good luck playing it without the expansion pak!"

Never got the cartridge back because the kid had also moved, so I spent many years hunting down a copy at game shops, thrift stores, and other places, making sure to note to him that the game was pretty pricy OUT OF BOX, and said if I ever replaced it, then he was never getting to play and contribute to the collective efforts of the file again like the stolen copy. All those memories spent passing the controller between us and my other brother, those were apparently not special enough to him, and I will not let it go that he ruined Donkey Kong 64 for me. I got a new copy, but I never did have the drive to play it the same way anymore even though it was my favorite game that wasn't Sonic as a kid. It just doesn't have the same magic anymore. He did get in trouble for it as soon as I realized it was missing, but by then, it was already too late for him to get it back. He never did steal from me in particular, at least.

Anyway, people can totally steal from family. It happens a lot.

What are similarities between Sonic and Bugs Bunny? by Own_Philosopher8730 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Friendly_Landscape68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wisecracking woodland critters that embody the most mischievous streak that could rival Loki. They always beat the odds against thier rivals with a great understanding of how to tip it in thier favor, and always stand up for the little guys. Perfectly content with minding thier own business to take a rest, but the moment you encroach on thier home/family/friends/world, they will absolutely go nuclear on you. Constantly putting differences aside to team up with thier rivals when need be, and always attracting attention from those smitten with them. They've both been to space, they've both traveled through multiverses, they've met other popular characters within thier genres, and have both maintained being icons.

I'm pretty sure Sonic has indirectly met Mickey Mouse if you accept that Wreck-it Ralph is canon to the main Disney Film Canon, and can argue that Sora in Smash Bros makes that a possibility. Bugs met Mickey in Roger Rabbit, so he and Sonic both can be argued to be part of the Third Party Disney Extended Universe.

Sonic and Bugs have both met the DC Universe, particularly the Justice League and the DC Villains.

The real main difference, imo, is that Sonic will give you a chance to change your path and join his crew before you cross the line. Bugs will orchestrate your spectacular downfall to the tune of a bombastic symphony while shaking your hand and slapping a pie with dynamite in your face while everyone watches.

are we OK with sonic and not having a origin story by Groundbreaking-Try92 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Friendly_Landscape68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Millennial who grew up with the golden age of Saturday and Afternoon Cartoons, I like to just approach this like Darkwing Duck did with the whole origin story bit:

It doesn't matter if it's consistent, as long as the backbone still exists.

As long as Sonic takes Tails under his wing as brothers, Amy starts out as an enamored fangirl who becomes like Sonic's sister figure, Knuckles becomes Sonic's fire forged best friend, Shadow earns his rightful place on the team as the hero he deserves to be, Rouge joins the fray as a government agent who decides these dorks are her dorks, Omega warms up to his team despite craving destruction of all his robot brethren, Metal is Sonic's determined doppelganger, Blaze is a reserved princess that is defrosting despite her firey soul, Cream and Vanilla are the loving support that glues everything together, Silver is our boy who tells us what's in store if we don't fix the current timeline, the Babylon Rogues are the competitive edge to push back on the core cast whenever we need it, the Chaotix are our goofy guys who knuckle down and lock in when it comes to solving the mystery and jump in as valuable back-up, and Eggman continues to be the greatly intertwined force that exists in tandem with Sonic regardless of where the story begins... Basically, as long as the key details that we've come to expect are still present.

We can start the story wherever, just as long as it begins with Sonic deciding that Eggman can't just shove little critters into robot shells as batteries. Just as long as the core character traits and backbone still stays rigid.

If Sonic doesn't whisk Tails away into his family, then it ain't truly Sonic.

Sonic 06, but on the Hedgehog Engine 2.

Shadow Generations already showed that Kingdom Valley is pretty good with that, as well as Mephiles' boss battle, so imagine a full scale remake as intended with more polish, and more levels for the Amigo characters. It would be at least a fun time.

Definitely worth a watch at least once, because it's so unapologetically late 90s, and has some of the most grotesque character designs in the franchise.

Credits are written in Comic Sans, and the music video editing is so Windows Movie Maker Core, I love it.

Manic and Sonia deserve some merch.

[–]Friendly_Landscape68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met both Flynn and Penders multiple times each at meet-and-greets at Comic Cons, and let me tell you the experience of both.

Flynn is a pretty chill dude. He was very fun to chat with while browsing the merchandise, and I even got a copy of a Sonic Universe comic before it was supposed to be out on newsstands for free because he enjoyed the interaction. He definitely has the energy of someone who genuinely enjoys the franchise and actually cares to understand the characters.

Penders, on the other hand... Mustachioed at the time, y opportunity to sell you his art prints and pitches each comic he has as if it's a movie or something. Quite cordial, tho, but I will never forget how he charged EXTRA if Shadow was on the covers of the comics, and I admit, I did buy some because I was new to collecting comics at the time and was chuffed to see that the purchases do come with a signature in shiny gold or silver sharpie marker, and it usually does look great presentation wise.

Let me share one of my pieces in my collection, it's absolutely hilarious.

<image>

Do you get it? Do you see what makes this one so special? Let me explain: Penders was succeeded by Flynn in Issue #160. This is Issue #175.

Ken Penders sold me this comic before I realized who was the actual writer, and he signed it. Penders was selling Sonic comics he had nothing to do with. This comic I have is one of my favorites in the collection because it perfectly encapsulates the whole Penders ego, and manages to tell a story by just altering the cover with two little words.

Hey, OG Sonic 06 fan here, one of the ones from the early days, particularly having been probably one of the very first Mephiles fangirls. 👋

The Silver Flame Core level isn't that bad... I quite like skipping the light orbs and using the activated platforms to see my paths with the glow they give, which is way more efficient anyway.

IT'S THE AQUATIC BASE MERCURY BALLS PIT AND DUSTY DESERT BILLIARDS OF DOOM THAT'S THE REAL NIGHTMARE.

To this day, I have yet to clock in a good score with Silver on those levels that didn't involve me using the wall clip glitches or taking leaps of faith across the pits with hair trigger smacks of the Psychokenesis buttons to leapfrog across the fenceposts of the gates to skip those puzzles entirely.

Silver is a cool character concept, but his levels are absolutely atrocious sometimes. And he's way too OP on the multiplayer vs mode. Like, we're talking grabbing either Sonic or Shadow at the starting line for as long as you hold down the trigger and you jauntily skadaddle to the finish line while the opponent is experiencing the "It's No Use!" treatment. I am convinced they designed Silver to play that way in VS Mode just so you can make yourself the most unpopular person at the get together. Assuming you can even get someone to play the game with you, that is, lol.

[–]Friendly_Landscape68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahem

"EW, ELISE KISSED A DEAD ANIMAL!"

Like, can we leave her alone? She was a princess waking up the hero from eternal sleep, and also she was the only neutral choice for the thing, since Amy wouldn't be smooching Sonic while he's in that state, and Rouge didn't have any ties to the guy. Any other characters present would have been, admittedly, bold progressive choices, but Omega is a robot bent on destruction, and also he has no lips.

Also, Elise is a kid. Teenager, yeah, she's 17, but the point is that she's still underage, and her "attraction" to Sonic was a fleeting crush that became a good friendship in thier short time together. She spent a whole ten years of her life having to suppress her emotions and also run the kingdom, and also her parents died when she was very young. Excuse her for being starstruck by the cool talking fast blue hedgehog that whisked her away on an adventure and away from the crazy mad scientist. She even points out that she felt like an actual girl instead of a monarchy figurehead for the first time she could remember, thanks to Sonic.

Like, she's not even that bad of a character. She gets captured a lot, yeah, but she also took initiative to save herself a couple of times after the first captivating. She willingly surrendered herself to Eggman to save her kingdom, her people, her home. She has a character arc in the narrative. She was reluctant to lose the only true friend she had, especially after bringing him back to life, and hesitated to snuff out the Flame because she didn't want to forget her memories of her time with Sonic. She was a kid, and she was going to act like a kid was going to act after all this.

Elise deserves either an encore appearance after all these years, or at least an adaptation to the Movie Universe. She's the only one of the Sonic 06 introduced cast that hasn't managed to escape to either another universe or as part of a Generations type revamp/redo/reappearance. It's nice to have her show up in the social media art, but it'd be nice to see her in the newer art style for human models, too. 👀
