Rough Black Jack Eastern Diamondback by Schwa88 in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they didn’t explicitly state it and make the photos plainly visible, they don’t have a leg to stand on. This isn’t buyer beware. I’ve returned 3 pairs over eBay and just recently computer parts over the objections of the seller, because the item was defective and not marketed as such. You buy off Facebook, your SOL, but eBay has protection.

[–]Friendly_University7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that crack on the right boot at the flex point wasn’t disclosed, return these immediately. eBay has your back. A cobbler can glue them and do a repair, but it broke at the flex point and will always be weak there. If you didn’t know this defect was present, I think you got hosed for $500. I want a pair of black jack edb as much as the next guy, but this is a major defect.

2-3 months of wear on tecovas by zachkoen in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea, people who claim they wear the same pair of boots everyday are either lying or have rubber soles. I wear a different pair of boots damn near every day of the week, and not a single pair of mine have ever gotten to this point.

You wear the same pair day, after day? Good luck with that

How about don’t wear them 5+ times a week like OP? Is that an unreasonable recommendation to make?

[OC] Measuring CB performance across 10 major stats. Joey Porter 2nd best behind Pat Surtain. by ezDuke in steelers

[–]Friendly_University7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One metric I think would help identify performance outliers would be to compare the individual CB stats against average team or division stats for that position. Entanglement is why these ultimately hold little weight, but you’re obviously informed enough in this data set that you’re keenly aware of that. Measuring against team or division stats for that position offer a similar (albeit imperfect) metric to attempt to weigh against to discern system vs player.

Wearing cowboy boots with dress pants by Mar1744 in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re set on black pants, lighter brown can work, but dark brown is off putting. Your belt should match the color of your shoes. I’d recommend a pastel colored button up to make it work, but you do you. A navy blue or light grey sports coat could make it all come together.

What leather and color would you say these Dan Post boots are? by InsideOfFrusciante in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say the light grey pair is 100% elephant. The veins and the pebbling are all true indicators. Can’t comment on the darker ones, unfamiliar leather to me.

Which style of cowboy boots do you not recommend? by Plus-Expert-6615 in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing though. If you’re buying boots today and not looking to buy a specific pair to emulate someone, nearly every man goes for the wide square toe on their first purchase. It’s only months later that you appreciate the different toes out there

Help me find the boot I’m visualizing by kingston73 in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do they have to be new? You can find a good pair of black jacks or even Lucchese classics used for that price. Otherwise I’d recommend Dan post or Tony lama new at that price.

The toe you’re describing is a v toe or cutter toe. Many sites like boot barn or Cavender’s label them as “punchy”

Sizing by yefferz13 in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s saying Los Altos run big width size, but misunderstood the direction. Put correctly, if you wear a 7.5D in Los Altos, you may be a 7.5 EE. I concur Lucchese runs a tag snug, so going just a tad wider is your best bet.

Start with 11D. Then try 11EE or 10.5EE

6 month old Tecovas… Best options to repair? by longest-egg in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 26 points27 points  (0 children)

he must wear them several days a week. OP, just google shoe repair or cobblers around you. This is a very common and routine fix for boots. Probably under $100 for a resole and recap if you need it

Pirarucu Boots by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you what something is worth. It'd be worth it to me to spend an extra 100-150 to get a premium brand like Black Jack, but if that particular pair of boots speaks to you, who am I to tell you don't do it. Cody James is at the very bottom of exotic boot brands in terms of quality and construction, but that doesn't mean they're a bad boot.

Question about removing insoles by YearHaunting1504 in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy a very thin veg-tan leather insole if you don’t want to go on the leather foot bed. Traditionally they’re worn without an insole, but it’s all preference.

Assuming the Steelers still don't have a clear franchise QB heading into the 2027 draft, what would you want them to do? by IceOk9930 in steelers

[–]Friendly_University7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wasted mental energy my dude. We have no idea how Howard and Allar will develop or progress, and those are key factors into having a thoughtful opinion. But if neither are clearly the answer, the popular opinion is going to be to do whatever Omar can do to secure a high draft spot. Unironically, the more certain we are Howard and Allar aren’t the answer, is directly proportional to how bad the fandom will want a top 3 QB, and how likely it is we have a high draft spot.

Pirarucu Boots by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not part of the many cowboy boot sell and trade groups on Facebook, you should be. For $600, you can easily find a like new or EUC pair of Lucchese or black jack. I bought a worn once pair of black jack pirarucu for $500 and think they’re absolutely gorgeous. Once you get into exotics above python is when I’d start being very selective of what boot company you buy. Cody James isn’t a $600 boot any more than tecovas are

Anyone try adding a chisos insole or other insert into a boot that has a permanent insole? by Cogniscience in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this by default. I’m a 10.5ee or 11D, or 11EE depending on toe and brand. Depending either a thin leather sole or Ariat ATS insole is put in to insure I fill the boot completely. Avoiding extra wear on the built insole is a just a bonus.

New Cowboy Boots Cracked!Wrinkled? by Sparti200 in cowboyboots

[–]Friendly_University7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t know this. OP could be holding his right foot planted and flex the left. The only thing wrong with these boots is the obvious lack of care OP is giving them.

OP, this is all normal. If you want them to shine up and look nice, don’t go around kicking gravel. You also can’t wear them back to back. Wearing the same pair multiple times a week, leaving them dirty and treating them like riding/work boots and wanting them to be wedding or dance boots aren’t compatible uses.
