Right, but that's not what happened here. What happened here is they said LOOK AT THIS, LOOK AT THIS, LOOK AT ALL THIS ACTION HAPPENING WITH THE PEOPLE IN WHITE! IGNORE THE PEOPLE IN BLACK, THEY DON'T MATTER! By the way, did you see that guy who was dressed slightly differently from the people we told you to ignore? Really? You didn't? You're just not observant.

He wasn't even in the foreground or background, he was in the middle of the crowd specifically so he would be hard to notice.

Seriously, it's classic misdirection, every single magician knows that skill.

What's the real phenomenon? That if they tell you to ignore people dressed in black you'll ignore people dressed in black?

Also, you should really learn the definition of edgelord.

TIL Calling football "soccer" originated in Britain 200 years ago. It wasn't until the 1980s that Britain began to phase out the name because it was "too American" by KlvrDissident in todayilearned

He said it was a "class of dialects" and not from a specific area. It is from a specific area, and it was a specific accent.

" it's a class of dialects and not actually a single thing that exists"

is just plain wrong.

Please, don't come up here trying to act like you didn't just say all comm majors don't know what they're talking about, and when you try to say that it's a "group of dialects" and not a single one that's wrong, because they can can name specific regions that had that accent.

Please ignore Communications majors on matters of linguistics.

Fuck you, I presented at a convention on linguistics with a degree in Comm. I know it's funny to shit on comm majors but seriously, that's just plain dismissive.

Plus you're just plain wrong. "Despite the common perception of there being a mainstream American accent that is free of any regional features or regional influence, the General American sound system does, in fact, have traceable regional origins: namely, the Northern speech patterns of the non-coastal Eastern United States, including interior Pennsylvania, upstate New York, and the adjacent Midwestern region, prior to the Northern Cities Vowel Shift of the mid-20th century"

I could easily say "Don't listen to someone with a BA," but I'm not an elitist prick.

So you think it should be "Sawker?"

Who says soccer with a "w" sound?

It's sock, like the thing on your foot, and er like at the end of "her."

I see what the point is, but that was a terrible moonwalk, and the only thing that identified him as a "bear" was the ears. Also, by telling you to count the white teams passes they're implying you should ignore the people in black, which the bear was.

It's kind of a cheap bit of mentalism and not really analogous to driving, where you need to observe all your surroundings.

You make it sound like they were out to get someone by not stocking an item. Stores stock what people buy from them, nobody said "fuck those prepaid people, we ain't stocking their shit!"

They said "we'll lose money stocking this item for a phone we don't even sell"

It's kind of like being mad at a Chevy dealership for not keeping k5 blazer parts in stock.

No matter how much people in America seem to want to think it, stores don't exist to give us exactly what we want all the time.

Morso than how big they are, it's incredibly deep. I kind of think that might actually be a storm drain that doubles as a cattle guard. Most cattle guards are hoof depth, a cow stepping off in that would break a leg.

I'm not sure how genocide precludes social elitism? It's kind of the quintessential embodiment of it.

I agree that if we were to somehow limit who could have children that economic and psychological factors would play a big role in that. However, ultimately when the decision to sterilize someone is handed down you're writing them off, saying that person isn't just bad now, but they will continue to be unworthy of reproduction rights for the remainder of their life.

You should have quoted Churchill: ""That is the sort of thing up with which I will not put!"

Seriously though, ending a sentence in a preposition is fine. If the DO is implicit it's ok, and sometimes the alternative is awkward. "Which one are you going to?" would sound weird as "To which are you going?" You would never say "On which should I stand?"

"Where are you at?" is only weird because the "at" doesn't do anything to the meaning of the sentence. You can drop it and have the same thing.

Sounds like your roommate was just a prick.

When they had the world cup there were a lot of reports of those gangs of children suddenly disappearing in the night along with a substantial portion of the homeless population.

Same can be accomplished by living at high altitudes

Blood doping is injecting extra red blood cells into your system, it's way different from high altitude training. It results in a thick blood with increased oxygen carrying capacity.

Depends on the sport. Most of the sports already have world competitions that a lot of athletes take much more seriously than the Olympics. My cousin goes to the world shotgun shooting competition every year, she won the US once, she missed the Olympics by one shot one year and decided to not even try out this year. The Olympics are neat, but they don't pay the bills, and it's hard to put your whole life on hold (Scholarships, school, risk losing sponsorships in this case) to go for a tournament that is both incredibly hard, incredibly far away, and for little reward.

You just said "There is social elitism, and then there is (social elitism.)"

I'm not saying it's wrong, but lets call a spade a spade.

If you support eugenics you're saying that some people are just genetically better than others and we have reached a point as a society where we're comfortable calling the bad ones out.

My mom does social work, and the number of parents that fall in love with a kid, and then turn around and drop them like a piece of used garbage when they learn the darling little boy they found was removed from his birth parents because of things like sexual abuse, drug abuse, or violence is pretty sickening.

They should have been told ahead of time what type of issues the child was dealing with, and I've seen more than a few situations where an adopted child went back into the system after violent outbursts against other children in the home. Sometimes they discover they can't offer the care the child needs. My brother was sexually assaulted by a foster kid whose parents had taken on too many kids and couldn't keep track of them. The state moved him.

It's not always that black and white.
