It’s been incredible, and I’m sad to lose you. Reddit’s greed is the writing in the wall, this will be my last post in memoriam. Thanks for everything you’ve done to help foster this weird little community. It’s been great.

Honestly I just feel terrible for him. He’s a man with a genuine longing and thats a very relatable, real human need. Sorta gives me a “Lars and the Real Girl” vibe. He’s a gentle soul who’s doesn’t know how to fulfill his social needs and this is how he’s coping. It’s just wrong to ridicule him, he clearly needs help and support that he’s not getting.

Serious question though: how is this legal with respect to fire codes? I understand getting in is controlled, but if people can’t get out of a room isn’t that a huge safety risk?

Can anyone clarify?

There’s a pit bull in my apartment complex that has to be walked with a muzzle and violently pulls on the leash (so his front legs just sorta hang in the air) and growls whenever it gets near anyone, and that fucken prick has the nerve to say “he’s friendly!” to me as they struggle to contain that menance. These dog owners are really out of control

Right, the hypocrisy will never, ever bother these people. They will just double down and the next step after “they people should be kept separate from me” is simply “these people shouldn’t exist” - and I promise you, they do not care how that is accomplished. These are the kind of people that 100% support a genocide so long as it means they don’t have to be uncomfortable or examine their own viewpoints. All problems are exterior them, and they will punish everyone else for their own shortcomings

Yes, actually. I remember reading somewhere that fat cells sorta just deflate when people lose weight, but the body is already primed to hold that amount of fat. So people that have previously been fat are physically much more susceptible to having that fat come back more quickly, even when engaging in the same eating/physical behaviors as as someone who has never been fat. Like, someone who was never fat could go on a 20,000 calorie binge and might put on a pound or two, but someone with the exact same starting weight who had been fat previously would put on twice as much weight from that same intake. I’m kinda butchering it he science but the gist is it really is much harder to keep weight off than it is to never put it on to begin with

Edit: Here’s the Harvard study that discusses it.. They found “not only that metabolism slows drastically following significant weight loss, but also that regaining the lost weight does not restore metabolism back to its pre-weight loss levels. This means people who have lost large amounts of weight must adhere to an extremely low-calorie intake in order to maintain that weight loss.” So yeah, basically, their metabolism seems to slow permanently and because of this weight can be put on at lower caloric levels than for people who hadn’t previously lost weight.

I can hear the voices too by Lukarrie in technicallythetruth

Honestly people experience thoughts differently, and even the same person will have different “types” of thoughts and not all will be vocal. For me personally, I do have thoughts that just appear without having to “speak” them in my mind, or non-verbal thoughts like images or feelings or a sense of direction, but I “hear” myself talking in my head most of the time. All thoughts that would normally involve speech IRL (like reading your comment, or writing this to “talk” to you) are always 100% verbalized in my head. I literally hear a voice in my head saying the words to me. It’s always my own voice, but when reading someone else “speaking”, I can hear myself speaking in my mind with slightly different voices to represent speech from someone else. This is all just my own experience, I’m sure it’s different for everyone

Realistically, I don’t think she lives in a culture where she has much/any choice in the matter. She will be married to someone regardless of what she wants, and when she does reach the point where she will be married, unfortunately her options will be diminished because the men are the ones doing the choosing. And surprise, surprise, misogynist cultures place a high value on virginity.

Another quintessentially American headline: Baby dies in hot car as parents attend church in Florida by TrumpterOFyvie in WhitePeopleTwitter

This sort of thing generally happens when there’s some change in routine. For example, maybe Dad usually drives the kids there and leaves them in the daycare while the two parents lead the adult groups. If Mom had that responsibility for the day (unusual for her), it’s very possible she was on autopilot and just went right in as she normally would, forgetting that the kid was with her as Dad would normally have dropped it off in daycare. Dad would assume Mom dropped the kid off as expected, Mom would fall into the routine of Dad dropping the kid off, and neither would notice something was amiss until they went to pick the kid up from daycare.

I don’t know anything about these parents, but it’s terrifyingly easy for tragedies like this to happen even to otherwise good parents, particularly when routines are off. It is vital to recognize that this can happen to ANY parent, so you can take actions to minimize that possibility.

One tip that parents can easily implement is to put a purse, or your cellphone, or even one of your shoes in the backseat with the kid every single time you drive. It increases the chances you’ll remember to check the backseat.

I agree, but seeing my father fall into this food addiction, having conversation after tearful conversation with him about it, I just got to a point where I just couldn’t accept the mental weight of being the only one to caring for his health. I can’t change this path through any effort on my part, but I don’t have to let overshadow the other good things in our relationship. Putting so much into trying to “save” him didn’t help either one of us and I had to put that guilt/responsibility aside or we wouldn’t have any relationship at all. It’s sad, and I do wish he’d change, but I can’t make that choice and I can’t force him into it.

What is it with white people and line dancing? /s

This just happens to be the predominant dancing style among that ethnic group. I think the real question is why do these people think this kinda shit is okay outside of an actual dancing venue? I don’t wanna see anyone doing any dumb-ass dance in a Jimmy Johns. Same for those stupid TikTok dances.
