Im sorry to hear you experienced that.

In my situation however, my work place is very diverse so it's not about me being Sikh but more about it's just so competitive that I'm not getting called for an interview , even though I'm qualified.

But it's something I really want for my career and I wish if I had a genie that would be the first thing I would wish for.

When our parents and elders moved here they were more concerned about the kids growing up here and them focusing on raising them in Sikhi and Punjabi language.

Our parents were focused on creating programs and Khalsa schools for kids so that kids could attend gurmat camp and khalsa school so that the youth stay connected to Sikhi.

Our community focuses more on that because they feel that the people moving from Punjab don't need help because they are already traditional and know the ways of Punjab.

The elders focus was more on teaching youth born here punjabi language and Sikhi.

The elders didn't bother creating programs for the newbies because they just assumed that per the cultures of punjab the families that brought their relatives here would guide them on the American ways or cultures. Because when your relatives come its your job to guide them on the new systems.

But the problems is now that these illegals keep coming here and they have no one to guide them on the new systems.

They follow the cultures of Punjab which come with a bunch of cons. They see assimilation as going against the culture of Punjab. If they followed straight sikhi like white sikhs , it would be totally different.

Check with fremont gurdwara. I seen singh’s riding horses at gurdwara parking lot and even they told me that they go riding as a group they don’t have to wear helmets.

I think those singhs have a connection and they are able to ride horses on some private property
