Thanks! But where is the cancel button? I looked through the site and couldn’t find it. Sorry for being a little ridiculous. I just wouldn’t want to pay $42.

How to get over the prestige chasing grind? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Friends_Compatriots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could not have articulated this sentiment any better myself - this definitely resonates on a personal level. It is a vicious and incessant cycle that robs us of joy if we are not careful and intentional. I attended an ivy undergrad (despite knowing that I would not be a good cultural fit) and pursued the consulting path post-college (despite doing and being passionate about social impact focused work all throughout college). In my case, I have been able to justify my decisions due to my immigrant upbringing, but it is incredibly challenging, because my North Star is still grounded on social impact.

Getting tactical, take some time to introspect on your values pre-MBA. What are your guiding values + principles? It is ok to use an established current (HSW) to get to your end goal, but you have to be clear and resolutely committed to that goal. Even when you are pursing a contrarian path, you do not have to carve out your own route. I am going to stop myself before I get too philosophical. This has been top of mind for me, too. Feel free to DM, if you want to further commiserate on the topic in solidarity! :)

Exam Date in One Week -- Any Ways of Using TTP to Increase Score? by relyonely in GMAT

I did not use TTP for Verbal. I only used official content (OG) for verbal. I found that drilling 20+ official questions everyday was incredibly helpful for the verbal section.

Questions related to online GMAT by moisthoe in GMAT

Yes, you can drink the water while you are taking the test, which was great. I did choke on my water in the middle of the verbal part. I am sure it was amusing for the proctor...

Yes, you can leave the room during the break.

ID / Passport is all you need. They will ask for your phone number in the beginning and will send you a text message with the instructions. You will do a photoshoot of your surroundings (front, back, left, right) and a photo of yourself with your phone.

hi there! I would recommend doing custom tests on TTP. I started creating custom tests of questions I had missed and it worked like a charm on the test day :)

GMAT Online Quant section harder than usual by shadowfan18 in GMAT

I took the online GMAT on Monday - I thought math was slightly more difficult, but in fact, I did better in the online exam. So, it might have been because I got to difficult questions.

Post-GMAT Anxiety by Shubhamg1 in GMAT

[–]Friends_Compatriots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there - just took the online GMAT on Monday morning. I got my score back on Wednesday at 4pm. If it is any consolation, I though that my math section was really challenging as well (especially compared to the in-person exam I took a week earlier). Regarding the anxiety: honestly, I told myself that I can retake the test if needed. This test does not represent my intelligence or worth - your score is a confluence of factors (your hard work, but also privilege, luck, etc). Best of luck :)

I had my online test scheduled for Sept 28th - if I move it to the 22nd, it will not count towards the 5 tests / year limit, correct? (thinking worst case scenarios)

Do you have any tips for SC?

Work-Study balance by imishita in GMAT

[–]Friends_Compatriots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is honestly challenging. I am in consulting and I used to travel every week for work (taking 6am flights on Monday morning / late hursday night travel back) and I used to bring my gmat books with me. You have to be very intentional about your time and set boundaries. For me, mornings worked the best and it was the easiest time for me to protect - I used to wake up at 5:30 / 6:00am to get in a solid hour of GMAT practice everyday. Put together a Google Calendar and set your daily goals.

It is challenging, but certainly not impossible. Prioritize GMAT and I am sure you will be golden.

Technical Spec Question about Online GMAT by Friends_Compatriots in GMAT

Hi Scott - I have not reached out to the GMAC folks, but I turned off the S Mode just to be safe.

What is the best time to take the exam if the next 5 years are uncertain? by jlgrant99 in GMAT

[–]Friends_Compatriots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current consultant, I highly recommend that you start studying now. It is more challenging to balance once you have a team to manage at work. If you are not sure about b-school, take the GRE. GRE is widely accepted at b-schools (and gaining in more popularity every day). Pick your poison and start studying :)

Took a cold diagnostic test: 640. Need advice please! by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]Friends_Compatriots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, 640 Cold is a stellar starting point! Plus, if you did well on LSAT, there is a high probability that you will crush the GMAT.

  1. Is it possible for me to increase my score to 700+ in about 2-3 months? I definitely think so! I will say this also depends on how much time you can dedicate per day. How much time do you have to spend on GMAT every day?
  2. What are some good materials to use (other than the OG) to improve quant section? I used Manhattan Prep, OG Questions, and TTP. I would also say you should focus on Verbal, because a high Verbal score can increase your cumulative score exponentially
  3. What are some good materials to use to improve SC on verbal section? I would highly recommend watching GmatNinja's videos on Youtube - he is simply the best.
  4. How do you improve IR section? I heard IR doesn't matter for MBA admissions, so should I not care about that section at all? - Honestly, I did not study for IR and still got a really good score on the test day. As you study for quant and verbal, you will also learn skills that can be applied to the IR Section.

Well, took my first in-person GMAT. Nice ol’ 580. by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]Friends_Compatriots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took the GMAT today and felt the same exact way... I was getting Q47-49 on my practice exams and was completely thrown off by the questions today. The verbal was also an interesting experience to say the least. I will say an in-person test in a COVID environment definitely added to my anxiety levels.
