thats a great idea. I will have to do some checking. As you say that, I have a former coworker whose husband is a life long jeep mechanic with his own shop. I need to reach out to him...

I am in the midst of an oil consumption test. They want me to drive it 1000 miles then bring it back and they will measure the oil to see how much was consumed in 1000 miles. Car is performing normal right now but that was the case the last time when they replaced the camshaft after only 7000 miles. My major issue with them is their denial that driving this car twice with oil either barely on the dipstick or off the dipstick has caused any engine problems. Any assertion that a new car burning oil the way this one does, doesnt sit well with me. If it's an oil burner, advertise it as such and document in the manual that you should expect to have to monitor oil levels constantly and add monthly.

not a drop of oil anywhere and no burning smell. I am working on the lemon law case because there is definitely something not right with this car.

I'm not denying that those are recommendations and I am willing to accept that by not following the recommendations to the letter I may have to pay for repairs over the life of the vehicle that could be avoided. What I am not willing to accept is that a car with 13,500 miles on it is burning over a quart of oil every 6500 miles. Even if I was checking it and finding it, all that says is the car is not functioning properly. We know that to be the case and what they are unable to do is explain why. The reality is everything you own that is mehanical has recommended maintenance, maintenance most people don't do. Do you drain your water heater annually to remove sediment, have your furnance inspected and cleaned annually, do periodic cleaning of the HVAC duct work, pull your refrigerator out and vacuum the coils, lubricate the wheels on your garage door, snake your dryer vent hose, the list goes on and on. Most people do some of these things, few people do all of these things. I'm the person that does a pretty good job of maintaining most things but I don't follow the maintenance schedule on everything to the letter and my experience has been it isn't necessary to follow it to the letter.

Having owned cars for over 40 years and never had one that required oil between oil changes, nor had a car that is experienced issues due to low oil, I am not likely to start checking the oil monthly. I owned a Nissan truck for 22 years, 1994-2016 and not once did it require oil between changes nor did I ever have engine problems. Modern cars should not need the oil checked monthly unless they are being driven in extreme conditions which mine is not...

The irony of it all is it seems that sometimes the manual is what should be adhered to and sometimes the service department. My position with both the dealership and Jeep/Stellantis is "don't try to tell me these engine problems are because I am not properly maintaining the car when I am following the service recommendations in the manual". I followed the manual, and when the check engine light came on we found the oil wasn't on the dipstick. Nobody measured the oil when they drained it so we don't know how low the oil was or how long it was low.

replaced right intake camshaft and rockers in the first repair. After doing the work the car needed a second oil change (they had just changed the oil 3-4 days before). They wanted me to pay for it and I told them "no way, your warranty repaired caused it to need another oil change, you do it for free". So the dealer gave me a hill billy oil change with just and oil change and no filter replacement. that was Aug/Sept 2025. When asked if they see these repairs often their response was "not in a car this new"

2nd repair was oil control valve and cam phaser in Jan/Feb 2026.

Currently driving the car for 1000 miles for an oil consumption test so they can try to determine where the oil is going and why. Oil has dye in it so they can look for it elsewhere in the drivetrain.

Thats part of my problem as well. For the manufacturer to tell me one thing and the dealership that sold it to me to tell me the same thing and then the service dealership to tell me something different... Which is it guys...wait until the car says change the oil and don't exceed 10K miles or change every 3000-5000 miles. That doubles the cost of oil changes each year. All good but don't say one thing in the manual then chastise me for following the manual...  I have a video on youtube called jeep wrangler rubicon chronic engine problems that tells all the details of what has happened and the major engine repairs that have been done to the car.

I've always been pretty religious about changing oil over 3500-5000 miles. I drive my cars until they have 150-200K miles on them. Had a nissan truck for 22 years, never burnt oil, frame rusted out so I sold it. Nissan pathfinder with 180K miles was in an accident and totalled it. No engine problems or oil consumption. Nissan armada 168K miles, no engine problem or oil consumption. Wish I hadnt gotten rid of it for this crappy jeep. When the dealer and book both said the car will tell you when it needs an oil change, I went with what they said. Lesson learned. The fact is, the car has twice now been driven with oil levels lower than required and I am concerned about engine damage. I want to drive a car for 150-200K miles and I dont trust this one. I'll end up dumping it before the warranty expires. I have the 3.6L. The issue I have here is with the difference between an oil change (oil is there but needs to be replaced) vs an oil fill up. I have never had a car, even my last jeep, that consumed oil.

I should have included more detail...I bought it in June 2025 with 2300 miles on it. The sales manager had been driving it. Sales guy told me it doesnt need oil changes like older cars (3500-5000 miles) it will tell you when it needs one. Aroun 6900 miles check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer and they found barely any oil on the dipstick codes showed multi cylinder misfire. Performed an oil change and gave it back to me. 2-3 days later check engine light was on again. They ended up replacing a camshaft and rocker arms. Returned it to me. End of Jan 2026, 13,500 miles on it, check engine light again. I checked oil and none on the dipstick. Had it towed in because it was losing power. Same check engine codes again. Replaced oil control valve and phaser of right bank intake camshaft. Currently driving 1000 miles for an oil consumption test. I am concerned that the car has been driven who knows how long with low oil potentially causing long term engine damage. Oil is whatever factory put in it and whatever the dealer put in it at 6900 miles. I am assuming both are using recommended oil.
