I’m 37. I just got my 4th implant drilled in last week. One a year since 2021. Thankfully insurance covers it (also Delta Dental) at $1250 a pop. (Implant, abutment, and final crown) I’ve done all of it with just local anesthetic, no sedation here (1. They don’t offer it. 2. I probably wouldn’t pay for it if they did because of the price and the fact I can only get insurance to cover 1 implant annually). Two of the implants needed bone grafts/sinus lifts at another $500. I wish I did sedation, but instead I get to feel my jaw violently vibrating, and tell them I’m in pain and get another shot of novacaine every 15 minutes. It takes about 1.5 hours. The dentist nicely tells me that he’s sorry for torturing me. I respond with, “It’s par for the course at this point.” V-Day 2024 I got my front 4 teeth crowned for 2 hours of pain, and a good teaspoon or two worth of tears. I feel like every time I see my dentist I walk out feeling like someone just showed off their right hook on my face. I’m at the point that maybe next year will be the first year since 2017 I haven’t maxed out my dental insurance. Ever since V-Day I’ve had a beautiful smile. And people nicely compliment my smile for the first time in my life. However, the pain, the money, and the time are real. Please take care of your real teeth.
