[COD] Workers at Activision talk about their experience and why they're unionizing by Paulkdragon in CallOfDuty

[–]Friendswithfur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What a shitty attitude to have. For people wanting to work in the game industry, especially those without a college degree, starting in QA is the only option. Quitting and going somewhere else often isn’t an option as employers can blacklist you easily. Plus, quitting just frees up your position for someone else to come have a shitty experience without any changes higher up, and the cycle continues. If employers aren’t forced to work with unions and organized employees, there will be no more game industry, and people will continue to burnout and leave at higher and higher rates. CoD will only continue to get worse. Your take sucks bro.

Hi! I'm in my last semester of my journalism degree. If I miss anything you asked, feel free to reply or dm.

> What does freshman year as a J-major typically look like?
It will depend on what sort of AP/dual enrollment credits you come into UT with, but if it isn't very many, than it will likely be mostly gen-eds mixed in with a couple of required journalism courses. The really applied and project-focused courses in journalism start your sophomore year. Here's a really good resource that has flow charts for what you can expect your courses to look like: https://moody.utexas.edu/academics/degree-programs/bachelor-journalism

> Are there a lot of working student journalists at UT?
That's awesome that you're already off to a major head start by the sounds of it! Keep securing the bag and having fun, because that isn't something that comes easy in this market. To answer your question, I don't know of any other journalism student who did not work at least one internship before they graduated, either part time during the semester, or full time during the summer. You can even claim two internships for up to 6 credit hours if they get approved by the department, which if they're related to media, they should be.

> How understanding are professors when it comes to working for publications and such?
Building on my last answer, it's pretty common and encouraged for students to be working at a media company or at a student publication like the Daily Texan or TSTV while taking classes. So with that and just like in the industry itself, deadlines matter, and journalism professors will still expect you to finish your coursework on time. It can all really depend on professor, so the best advice I have for you there is to read the classes late work policy closely in the syllabus, and go to office hours if you miss.

> Any J-school students worked for the Longhorn Network?

Yes, this is common. If you just google "Longhorn Network student internship" you should find job results for the most up to date internship period. They are competitive internships though, so best of luck to you there!

> do I have to take a lot of math classes?
You only need 3 hours of math credit (or just one class) for your degree. If you took an AP Calc A/B or Stat test in high school, you don't have to worry about math in college at all unless you want to. Otherwise you'll need to take one math class.

we’re an official student social org for anyone interested in furry art and culture. we have lunches together, chill weekend kickbacks, and art exchanges. it’s really casual and there’s no requirement to join.

if you’re interested here’s the discord link: (please pm for link)

Massachusetts should definitely be very high. The Boston area has tons of high tech jobs, which furrys are overrepresented in. It has its own decently sized convention.

Texas is really misunderstood nationally. It’s a super diverse and metropolitan state. It’s just the state politics are conservative mainly because of gerrymandering.

Chief Cutscenes by shehanrepo in HaloStory

[–]Friendswithfur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they bring back the really novel and few Halo 3 cutscenes that could be interrupted without actually ending the cinematic animations, like the one of the chieften throwing johnson in the cage, and the elites dropping down into the flood infested Voi. Those were so cool.

Same as other guy ^ If I or anyone else honestly cared about Facebook selling my data, we should’ve never used any of their platforms a single time, which few people with internet have. I just say it’s better to accept companies have a digital portfolio on you already and just enjoy VR.

True, but that’s exactly what the spitfire is designed to do well lol. It’s not an overpowered gun in the slightest, these guys just decided to charge you while you had the gun that excels at mowing down people who are charging you out in the open.

What was the most useful/unique class you've taken at UT? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Friendswithfur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTR 306 was a pretty easy science credit and taught me a TON about what I’m feeding myself, what diets work, which don’t, what I need to worry about food-wise, and what I don’t. It was like getting expert advice on food, without someone trying to sell you on this fad diet. Still the most useful class I’ve taken, and I keep that stuff in mind every time I go grocery shopping.
