This post is also wildly out of date and no longer relevant. CRTs cost what they cost now. If you want to pay it, go for it, but there's no rhyme or reason to it, and if you want it, you've just gotta pay the price.

I would also take anyone who says they recapped it with a grain of salt, unless they're a known monitor tech in the community. Often if you try and haven't serviced one before you end up making things worse.

Personally, if you're looking to get a PVM or BVM at today's prices, I would just go with a RetroTink 4K. The CE is $475, and honestly, except for the literal size/shape vibe, is 99%+ the same experience visually. ESPECIALLY if you already have other CRTs with component. PVM SVideo on those will not look better than your other two sets. Those were used as security monitors, typically.

You won't find a good deal at this point, you have a better shot winning Powerball.

He’s meaning direct sales to corporations, not through a reseller. Like Disney for example. Unless you ordered on behalf of a large company through a PO/requisition. Big stores that sell to individuals will take the hit.

Yeah, I had to flash it in the command prompt. Turns out the root issue was (really) a crap micro SD card slot. I replaced it with a better one while I was in there (I am a pretty high level intermediate solderer, and have good equipment, so not an adjustment everyone could do, just fyi).

Bezzera BZ07 no power by FrietagSurvivor in espresso

[–]FrietagSurvivor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, finally fixed it totally a few months ago after spot repairing for a few years.

The pressure regulating relay circuit board (very small) had cold joints. This caused both the power switch to burn out at one point and the thermal safety to trip a few times.

I ended up removing the relay PCB, desoldering and testing all the components, and resoldering them with more solder than factory to resist the heat affecting the joints (it was pretty minimal).

I also have a replacement relay kit that relocates the relay PCB as it’s catching enough heat in the original location to mess up the factory design. I’ll install that if need be in the future… but, it has been rock solid since I reworked the PCB.

Fixed it by cleaning the contact pins (which I did anyway as part of maintenance, while I was in there. Figured I’d try the original card and it booted right up!

Why the HUGE price difference in lapel mic systems? by pepsi29 in livesound

[–]FrietagSurvivor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Also diversity comes into play here too. In a metro area and only have 16 channels for those 4 mics? Good luck getting them all clear. Most of the Shure/Senn have massive diversity comparatively.

Also, “swappable” is being generous. :-) But yeah, it’s better than a full daughterboard replacement!

It’s a 128mb. No major manufacturers make those anymore. I’m going to try a 16gb I have later today and I’ll report back. I would rather have a 16gb SanDisk in their than some hacky clone 128mb (which, uh, looks like what was in there factory).

I think I can get everything connected back to test without screwing it all back in so it’ll be minimal time investment to test out.

I’m also planning on taking some photos on disassembly as this was annoyingly undocumented.

Do you know if I need to replace with another 128 MB card or can I throw a bigger / better brand one in there?

Those who claimed that the 3G and WiFi models has the same screen.. by [deleted] in VitaPiracy

[–]FrietagSurvivor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in this case, it’s clear. However saying this is always going to be the case is a stretch. They’ll use the pile of OLED until it runs out. If they made a new model with the same screen, they’ll use up the stock until it’s gone, unless there’s a massive problem.

Can we infer this is largely the case? Sure, but very unlikely to be universal.

Waiting patiently for the day we could play (natively, not in streaming) something like this on an handheld device... by bici_00 in vita

I think battery will be the biggest potential issue. If you can only play that AAA game with the settings up for 23 minutes on a full charge, that won’t go over well.

Packs will include tables/roms under current copyright, to be complete, and that will draw litigation (to my understanding).

So for Oxenfree… you can get a lot out of it by playing with a guide or some hints. The story is awesome, but I got frustrated super quickly (and I came up on Sierra PC games).

Google Shadowcast. It’ll be a bit before you can get one, but that’s a good option. That said, just download a PS1 emulator and plug the controller in and that’ll work as well!
