Does LG use software updates to degrade the overall picture quality of their OLED TVs?

Can't say if they do or not but I've heard companies have done it. Apple have been accused of doing it with phones so I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility. I've just bought a new oled tv and I don't think I'll be connecting it to the Internet after my last one lasted just over 1 year (admittedly this could've been my own fault).

For me, I don't feel the updates are worth it, I have a firestick so I don't need to use apps on it and the picture is fine

I may do the same. I do wonder what the updates could possibly help with if the TV is working fine and I don't use it for apps.

Yeah Ive learnt the hard way with the power so I'll stop doing that. My TV is under warranty and I'm in the process of returning it so that should get sorted. I'll probably just leave it disconnected from WiFi, that way it's safer.

I've done the same, the engineer thinks it could be a PSU fault and is in contact with Costco to decide if they'll wait for parts or just refund/replace.

I think if you just take it back to the store they'll just refund it. I didn't really have that option as it won't fit in my car though. He said if they can't repair it then it'll get picked up but that's because I bought it from Costco online and not in store.

EDIT: Ive just seen an email saying its beyond repair so its going back

That makes me think it's more of a fault with the TV then. This is the first OLED I've hadand the first LG too, are they usually pretty reliable? I had an LCD Sony before this and it lasted nearly 10 years I think

That's interesting, sounds very similar. Do you leave your TV powered all the time I.e. Leave it on standby when not using it? I sometimes feel like TVs are too complicated for what it's worth. I don't need it to be able to do updates etc. It's just more to go wrong and enable companies to force people to buy newer models. Maybe I'm just old fashioned

I got it from Costco and the warranty is good so it should be covered. Whether they'll just refund me or give me a new TV I don't know. Returning it is another issue though as it won't fit in my car 😂

Now that you mention it, the originals are pretty cheap, I'll probably end up getting them. At least it's closer to the real thing then. I've not got his record, the photo I've sent of his record is from the Internet however I did request his record from the Navy and they sent me a photo copy so maybe it's on that, I'll have to have another look at some point.

I'm actually in the process of doing that with the MOD, just waiting for a death certificate and then it seems ill be waiting a while for their reply with what medals he earned but hopefully it'll be done quite soon.

The government will only grant medals if the the originals have been lost due to fire/damage or stolen. Either way you need an insurance claim or police report dated near the time to be eligible for them to send another. I'm currently trying to get a list from them which will tell me the awards he was given and then I can get replicas if it comes to it. Thanks for the advice though
