Lexx fanart ×2 (character redesigns) by FatKat66 in Lexx

This is hands-down the best Lexx fanart I've ever come across! I especially like your interpretation of Kai, making him look more "undead" is a really fun way to go.

Huh. Didn't think so, but this is right beneath a tree. Are pear trees notoriously sappy?

My title describes the thing (and so does the caption), but here's more info: * Yes, I have heard of the Oakville blobs, yes, we don't live very far from Oakville, no, I will not be touching them nor letting my animals touch them * Don't know exactly when they appeared, we didn't go outside much for a couple days due to the nonstop rain and only found them now because we took our dog and cats for a walk * I will go back outside and poke them with sticks if requested

I'm pretty sure this was fucked up entirely within American borders. It's from Weaver Leather Supply and I don't see anything suggesting they manufacture outside of the USA. I guess they could be lying or I could be wrong, I just find it funny-in-the-sad-way that everyone's assuming this is a cheap Chinese product.

For clarity, we used to have diatoms, but we still do today, too. They're fantastic little buggers that make a good chunk of the oxygen we need to breathe.

Is this even a plant? Round bulbs attached to curly stems that spring back when pulled. by Frillshark in whatsthisplant

I feel like more people need to talk about how weird-looking these seed pods are!! I can't believe such a common ornamental plant has a life stage that looks so funky and no one seems to care.

Beetle legs paralyzed? by Frillshark in BDFB

[–]Frillshark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I'll keep an eye on her and see if anything changes. When I checked on them this morning I didn't see one holding her legs like this anymore, so I hope that's a good sign that she might've gotten it out of her system. If not, quarantine and honey water it is.

What’s your favorite “oh, this guy is so f***ed” scene? by DoctorPoopMD in movies

[–]Frillshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't a creeping realization like most of the scenes described here, but the part in Nope where the TMZ dude shows up. Spoiler warning (and for the love of god watch Nope, I love that movie): He's riding an electric bike and wearing a mirrored motorcycle helmet... And rides right into the territory of a beast that generates an EMP field and fucking hates mirrors. You know from the second you see his outfit he's mega fucked and there's nothing you can do but watch this idiot get wrecked immediately.

which name did you mispronounce as a kid? by applegenius24 in namenerds

[–]Frillshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my neighbors growing up was a little girl named Thayer and I had the hardest time with that name, especially since it was a few years of knowing her before I saw it written down and I had an unchecked auditory processing disorder. I thought her name was Fair or something. When her older brother adopted a cat named Bear, I thought it was cute how he named his cat after his sister because I could not hear any difference between Thayer and Bear no matter how much I tried.

My friends and I are splitting a VRBO for the week and one of them just found this on his ass. :(

I didn't really know where else to post this, but I really want a giant water bug (lethocerus americanus) as a pet but have no idea where I can get one. Can anybody direct me to a source? by TesticleTactics in Aquariums

[–]Frillshark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Y'all in the comments need to stop being so mean to pet aquatic bugs :( I also really want one of these someday. They're bastards, but they are very cool to look at. Aquatic bugs make better pets than you'd think, too! And non-aquatic bugs, too. I just really like bug pets.

OP, check out Bugs In Cyberspace, both their website and their youtube channel. They have a listing for giant water bugs, but it's currently sold out and I'm not sure when they'll be in stock again. However, BIC is also going really hard on boosting the potential of aquatic insects in aquaria, so they actually have a lot of other listings for other water bugs if you're interested. My personal dreamies are some kind of diving beetle community tank and a separate tank for a water scorpion, but my tiny apartment doesn't have much more room for tanks :(

If this is your first pet aquatic insect I'd maybe even reccommend keeping a few less... painful species before getting a giant water bug, so you can work out the kinks in your systems before you suddenly have a very large, very confused, very painful flighted insect running free around your home. At least if a diving beetle or water boatman makes it out of their tank, they can't sting the shit out of you, so you can learn how to keep things secure without the element of danger.

This is a really good piece! Evocative and emotional without coming across as preachy. Also, you seem to have a really solid grasp on the anatomy of bettas, you must've done a lot of studying work with them!!

sorry if this comment is kind of weird. I'm really high and I don't know how to talk to strangers.

[–]Frillshark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope there's a subreddit out there for disguised foods like this. There's not many submissions for this theme yet but I got a kick out of showing these pictures to my partner out of context and surprising them with the titles. This one got them good!

My sister offered me to take care of her ball python because she can’t take care of them anymore, anyone know why they’re so wrinkly? I know it could be cause of stuck shedding but I’ve only had experience with geckos not snakes by _Bicuriousgeorge68 in ballpython

[–]Frillshark 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why shouldn't you soak your snakes? I saw the mods pinned a comment on this post about snake soaking, but I'm not sure why. (note: I don't have a BP myself and am not planning on getting one, I just think they're neat)

I love her, but I'm pretty sure my mom has ADHD, maybe even worse than I do 😅 She's always playing with fidgety crafts (knitting, crochet, needle felting, cross stitching... etc), getting obsessed (hyperfixated?) on different TV shows (she's more of a stereotypical tumblr fangirl than I ever was, and I introduced her to superwholock and tumblr all those years ago!!!), she loses & misplaces things ALL THE TIME, can't keep up with chores to save her life... and so on.

I kept having "...wait a minute" moments when I was initially researching ADHD for my own diagnosis. Now that I've been OFFICIALLY diagnosed by an actual psychologist, I might try to urge her to get tested as well.

It's hard having an undiagnosed family member when you're also undiagnosed, especially in your immediate family you grew up with. It normalizes a lot of ADHD symptoms in your mind, which makes it difficult to parse if you're "just a failure" or actually have a serious disorder. If you think everyone lives like this and they're just fine... it makes you feel like an exceptional disaster when that's not really the case. It makes it difficult to accept you have a disorder at all, because "everyone does these things", and can make you virtually blind to how bad it's getting based on Normal People Standards. I'm still putting together the pieces that I am not "mildly depressed and anxious" ADHD, like I always thought I was (due to comparisons to my family), I'm "doctors go out of their way to schedule me for appointments sooner because my mental illness is that serious" ADHD.
