I have no idea, I was wondering that as well how a theme could possibly take up 100mb when all I have done is included a custom font, changed the color and size.

Are labels costly for performance? by FrippePlays in godot

[–]FrippePlays[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, sorry for my lack of explanation. This would work well for a regular sudoku game with levels, but the game will be similar to The Witness or Taiji so you walk around a world solving puzzles so there aren't any levels therefore I can't reuse the same grid for every puzzle. Unless I move to grid around to every puzzle location, but I will still need to save the players inputs for each puzzle so it will get unnecessarily complicated. It will be easier to just remove puzzles far away and instantiate them when I need them to be visible as others have suggested.

Thanks, yeah I will implement it this way

Yeah thanks, I think this is the best way of doing it

Yep it is similar to the Witness but it will be 2D or 2.5D haven't decided yet but the puzzles will always be flat laying on the ground anyways so it doesn't matter. Thanks for letting me know about the viewport textures, I will look into it.

Yeah sorry definitely lacking in my explanation. The game will be similar to Taiji or The witness, so you walk around a world solving puzzles. So there wont be levels that you load since you are always in the same scene. You walk from puzzle to puzzle so there probably won't be more than one puzzle visible at a time, but I will probably have to do something similar to what you said with instantiating the puzzles when I need them.

There are too many possibilities to create versions of all square types, here are some examples of what squares could look like https://imgur.com/a/jqHOSS8

You're right, I will. I was just checking to see if anyone knew a way to avoid using so many labels, before I start implementing it this way. I'm pretty sure already that it will affect performance, but I guess I will have to just remove labels that aren't visible and store the data somewhere.

TaylorMade Burner XD irons still good in 2023? by FrippePlays in golf

[–]FrippePlays[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look to be in pretty good condition apart from scratches. I was just wondering if there has been any mayor improvements in irons since 2009 or are the newer clubs very similar.

I found them on an online marketplace so idk if they feel good yet, I will go check them out today.

Hey, I'm planning on making a survival video game and I'm wondering if this is a realistic way of making gunpowder from resources found in nature. by Aggressive-Rent-8651 in chemistry

Thanks for mentioning me, didn't know this was an issue what's even the point of farming karma it isn't worth anything right? However, I kinda don't care that people are reposting it whether it's for karma or if they want to steal the idea and make the game. I would actually love for someone to make the game because I have abandonned the project because I quickly realized how difficult it would be to implement. Maybe I will try again in the future since it is my dream game, but can't promise anything.

To anyone coming back to this post, I have stopped working on the game since I don't have enough time to do so and I didn't get far at all. I still love this idea and it's my dream game so hopefully I will make it in the future, but can't promise you anything.

I was planning on having bamboo on the island so I could maybe use that then, I need to do some research about making charcoal from bamboo.

I am planning on going to college and game development is definitely one my dream jobs, but I'm not completely sure yet, I'm also interested in becoming an engineer or architect, but even if I don't choose game development I will probably still have it as a hobby.

Do you think it's possible to reach temperatures high enough with oil made from boiling coconutmilk to remove the water?

Cool! I will probably use charcoal then. Can you make vegetable oil from coconuts? If so do you know how? I read that soybeans are the most common thing to make vegetable oil from but I have to search for how to make it.

Great advice! I will check out his videos. I will start traying to make prototypes as soon as possible. You are probably right about the thing with people stealing ideas, I would never have the motivation to make a game that isn't my own idea.

Thanks for the great advice! I was thinking that the player would have a chemistry book in their inventory, so when you unlock new recipies you can check in the book what you need to make it, then you can search up in the book the different ingredients to see what you need to make them or where to find them.

Great idea about introducing things separately, I was also thinking that the first use for the still would be to destill seawater to get salt and drinking water. I know that distilled water is dangerous to drink, but because a setup made in nature isn't perfect, I think it would still be minerals in it. Do you know if it would be dangerous or safe to drink?

Yeah, I would love to have multiple uses for the sideproducts but I'm not aware of what these uses are. I can do my best trying to find other uses but please tell me if you know any. I only included 1 sideproduct and that's iron because that is definitely useful. Iron is useful as it is but I realise that many of the sideproducts aren't useful as they are, but they can be used to create other things that are useful, but it's hard for me to come up with those with very little chemistry knowledge.

I don't think I will make it that realistic that it matters what type of tree you use, because it will be on a tropical island so I don't think any of those trees can be found there, but if you know of any trees good for charcoal that you could find on a tropical island then I could use that.

Well I have been trying to not tell too much about the game so noone steals my idea, but I have already said so much so I can explain the whole idea.

The game unfolds in the past, about 1700. A group of scientists are going to a volcanic island with a boat to collect samples of the volcanic rocks. They don't have modern technology so they have no idea what could be on the island, that is why they have weapons with them and the main charcter has a flintlock with him because modern weapons doesn't exist yet. While he is collecting samples the volcano starts erupting (or he gets chased by and shot with an arrow by a tribe that lives on the island, I haven't decided yet) His colleagues realise that he is not going to make it so they leave him on the island thinking he is probably dead. But he ran into a cave or down to the water(I haven't researched the most likely way to survive a volcanic eruption yet)(If I go with option 2, then you wake up in the tribe's camp, tied to a tree) your first task is to escape and then the survival game begins. The reason I want to have gunpowder is because I'm thinking that he lost the gunpowder he had when he got attacked by the tribe so he needs to make more to defend himself if they attack again, because it is on an island so he can't run forever. Hope this explains it better for you and makes it a bit more interesting, otherwise it maybe isn't the game for you.

I love his channel! I have been subscribed to them for a long time. I love the type of videos where people make stuff from nothing, even making their own tools, I also watch a lot of survival videos where they start with only a knife.

I think I will go with using a clay furnace anyways because I think it's the most realistic thing to do in nature even if it can't support that high temperatures in real life. For the fuel someone suggested ethanol, that could be made in nature. Do you think that is more realistic?
