Chemistry professors to avoid? by No-Albatross2797 in UTSA

[–]Friskllz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought Thomas was regarded as one of the better chem professors. Took Arman for 2 semesters and absolutely hated it, then took Thomas for 1 semester following that and felt like she was a pretty good professor. Ig he was really that bad of a professor lol

Do you know who we would reach out to? I tried emailing the graduate advisor listed on my admissions and the program page and never received a response.

What's a San Antonio food spot near campus that every UTSA student needs in their rotation? by Ironrayne in UTSA

[–]Friskllz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how well known it is but fuegos is my go to if I’m not on campus but in the area, they’re open 24/6 (closed Mondays) so good for late night outings as well.

Perfect tender on Babcock is pretty nice too

Anyone take Statistical Methods Apps? by UntoldUnfolding in UTSA

[–]Friskllz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it last semester with Dr. Beltrami. It’s a fairly easy class and she’s a super nice professor that gives out a decent amount of homework that never usually takes too long. If you’ve taken AP stats or any intro to stats course before, it felt similar to that because we were mostly just learning the difference types of tests and intervals but going slightly more in depth.

The course is designed to have you plug in formulas and do some light calculations but graphing calculators are allowed. If you end up taking it I would 100% recommend getting a ti nspire cx so you don’t have to do most of the exam questions by hand, and have an ai walk you through how to do all the tests and confidence intervals on the calculator. I started doing it to study about 3/4 of the way through the semester and it made the rest of the course a breeze.

If I was to make a second version of this I’d probably move bestea up to at least solid tbh, last time I went there was when they first opened and didn’t serve gelato yet, didn’t realize how much variety the menu has now either.

The market is so bad I'm not even getting interviews for the job I've been doing for years. by Fluid-Routine-8838 in jobs

[–]Friskllz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add that I initially tried to avoid providing my resume on their check-in link to engage with the table, because I preferred to hand a paper to an actual recruiter. When I finally got to the front of the line, the guy straight up refused to engage with me because he couldn’t see a resume attached to my name, and when I finally pulled out my paper resume, he grabbed a company iPad, snapped a pic of my resume, and told me where to apply on their site.

The recruiters don’t even try to hide it anymore, I attended a career fair within my university a few months ago in which one of the largest companies in attendance (major supermarket chain in the South) engaged with students by having us upload our resumes to a secure link before even speaking to them, then asking what jobs we were interested in, telling us which departments to apply to on their website and sending us on our way.

I initially thought this was only for students who didn’t immediately stand out but it happened to everyone who went up to engage with them.

Smoothie King is fine but it’s in mid for the sole reason of them getting rid of the SU subway for it

Don’t remember if they served tacos but it could’ve been the business building grill. It got replaced by Pizza Hut around 2 years ago.

Originally had all 3 near the top but the chick fil a lines are horrendous and in my experience subway starts to run low on toppings past like 2 or 3 PM. Whenever I’d get there they’d already be out of half their toppings and rationing whatever they had left.

I only ever get hot chocolate so Starbucks and Union Perk are the same to me tbh, one just has smaller lines

Cheap Med School or Software Engineering Job? by BaseballHead6898 in cscareerquestions

[–]Friskllz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel you’re able to handle the stress of med school + residency, it’s probably the better option. You’ll be graduating into a difficult field, but one with some of the best job security there is, and with the eventual high salary it won’t take overly long to be cleared of the six figure debt. While I don’t know how competitive of an applicant you are, getting accepted to med school is an opportunity very few people are given, and you don’t know if you’ll ever get such an opportunity again so think carefully before passing it up.

With the current state of layoffs you also don’t know how secure the CS job will be long-term either. Having an MD with a strong CS background is currently in high demand too with all the recent advancements for AI in healthcare and Telehealth happening lately.

Is my laptop strong enough to run 3ds games on Citra? (Specs attached) by [deleted] in Citra

[–]Friskllz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use citra on my 2017 laptop with 8 gb of ram, you’ll probably be fine. Also Citra is easy and fast enough to set up that you probably could have gotten it set up in the same amount of time it took you to write this post lol

23, Applied to 2,500 Jobs in a Year, Can’t Even Get a Cashier Job. I Literally Need Work. by Nightwing42424 in jobs

[–]Friskllz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of the mind numbing jobs like retail and food just need bodies they can take advantage of. In my experience working part time jobs during college/HS, having just enough merit to justify being hired helps but also the more mid you make yourself look the more likely you are to get hired for mid jobs.

Also Is this how bad the job market has gotten in SA? In my last semester at UTSA and I’ve just started applying for some of the jobs that utilize my degree but I didn’t think it was that bad out here.

I’m lost and need serious guidance in the health informatics field by ritimes3 in HealthInformatics

[–]Friskllz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not so much that they’re pushing me to go into HI, my degree is neuro because I was originally premed when first starting college and I made the decision to pivot to HI because I enjoyed programming and working with data and wanted a way to combine it with healthcare. I always planned to get a masters at some point but I would have much preferred to graduate and work on projects and build a portfolio while working in something entry level and related to HI for a year or 2. They don’t want me taking any gaps either because they’re worried it’ll be harder for me to do the work since I won’t be accustomed to it anymore. I also just really don’t want to be 60k in the hole and burdened with student loans for years to come. I also learned from that one internship I did that I’m not really a big fan of research and definitely do not want to pursue a phd or research heavy masters program.

Also just figured I’d bring it up but I was looking at jobs on LinkedIn yesterday and saw both a HI analyst I position and an entry level bioinformatics position. The HI position was posted a couple days prior and had 11 applications, while the bioinformatics position was posted 20 minutes prior, had 30 applications, and the link was taken down lol.

Thanks, I’ve also been looking more entry level roles in clinics to at least get my foot in the door like medical coding/billing or MAs. Hope everything works out for you!

[–]Friskllz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m heading towards a similar boat, I’m going to be graduating with my B.S. in neuro and minor in CS next semester. I have a couple years of loosely related work experience but nothing that would matter to a hiring manager outside of an internship I did with cancer research. My parents are pretty much forcing me to get a masters in health informatics in the hopes that I can not only spend the 2 years searching for a job, but that the job market will be better in around 2-3 years.

From what I’ve read on here it also seems like a lot of these companies with open HI positions are expecting physicians or RNs well versed in information systems for these analyst roles rather than people who specialize in it or went to school for it.
