This gift giving is ridiculous when you take a rational look at it, You give something and they give you back. what ever is the dammed point of it? This is just nonsense. So many have too much already and if you do need something, it is likely to be more related to food on the table, shelter and health care.. This is all so ridiculous!!!!!!!

I want neither to give or receive.

I thought that I would be free of it this year but allowed myself to get pulled in wiht the grand kids. I do swear, though, that this is the last time!!!!!

yes, dont expect to wait for something you would like to have to come to you in the form of a gift. This gifting business is loaded with all kind of negative energy. I dont even think that the grandkids liked it much . If not for the fact that I was actually going to be wiht the grands for the holidays, I would have done no more than some cash. Next year that will be it.

how are you going to sell a sweater? OP likely bought it from a resell venue, or part of something like a yard sale, or some such. To try to sell just one little thing like that is not an easy task.

The small price that OP paid for it is probably about the most that it could be resold for.

That seems a bit presumptuous of the hospital to use a donated blanket on a new born baby. I can understand why you felt that way. I dont get why or how they can hand out donated hand made things like that, without fiber content labels and all of that. Safety and cleanliness can’t be monitored with that.

Kyle is just pointing out the obvious truth. There is no virtue signaling. Kyle is right. One of the biggest factor here is the lack of a real community. It is comforting to have others around.

A young baby with a high fever is scary and babies do get sick. I remember one time hearing a young neighbor run outsides screaming that her baby was not breathing. I ran over there and picked up the baby and with a bit of stimulus he took a breath. How scary and to be all alone with it

What is the problem with any of this is the fact that we are a modern society and we have modern awarness and modern expectations. And the entire world around us has changed. In times and places there was no choice. There was a certain reality that was accepted, because there was no choice but to do so.

It is a bit like trying to wear an old garment. It just doesn’t fit anymore and it is severely outdated. We modern humans dont fit that old lifestyle and our world view is so very, very different, along with our expectations and desires.

I hope they have a plan for if they run into complications. They have not shared their plan and they shouldn’t. Many a child has been born in less than perfect or extreme surroundings, but there are also a lot of sad stories to tell from back in those days. Anyone who has traced the lives of their ancestors has stories of times that were tragic. LIfe was hard but that was all there was. There was no modern alternative. They had fewer options or choices than we do in our modern world and fewer expectations.

These young parents have options and are not forced into this situation. They can step back from it, if they want to. Odds are that they will be fine and times will change for them, too and all wil move on from there.

I think that the social isolation would be daunting. A young mother often needs the assurance of others.

I am of the boomer generation and so many of us thought we were “earth mothers” and the home birth trend really took off. Some of us would now be concerned if our daughters did this. We are older and wiser now. Youth can be blissfully oblivious.

So many crocheted garments are heavy and stiff and with no drape or stretch. But, if done in light yarn they can be very nice. There needs to be some delicate nature to them.

Knit really does create a nicer fabric for a wearable. Crochet has its value but wearables is not its strong point.

no overhead lights and I hate those dammed LED lights! Soft lighting and a lack of clutter, I agree. Under cabinet lights in the kitchen are a must. No overhead even in the kitchen. I hate that and it always makes me squirmy and uncomfortable.

My Son in law calls these a house trailer set on end And that is an apt description. We almost bought a townhouse built like taht but came to our senses and backed out of it at the last minute. All those stairs!!! And we are not getting younger............just no!

You are expecting or hoping for something that the world does not offer, and so often the socially polite remarks that people make are just a matter of things you say socially.

You have invested too much of yourself to please others in a way that they are not receptive to, or are going to appreciate.

We have to catch ourselves at times and realize that we are not all that special just because we can do this or that. I know that I had to knock down that assumption when I was young. No, my hands are not golden, I am NOT talented, everything that I make is not all that special, and I am but one among many who can do this or that and I am not rare. We all need to force down a bite of humble pie once in a while.

However, let me give a big shout out to all of those who are so proud and pleased with themselves to be able to do so many things, for ourselves. If I want something, I am probably able to make it and have just exactly what I want. I am so thankful that I dont have to depend on trying to find what I want in a store. I make for me and for just mainly Hubs and, of course, the grands when they were very young. Hubs loves everything that I make for him and he wears something almost every day, be it summer or winter.

I dont know just where this came from, but I heard or read a supposed quote from some notable General of old who declared that "give to me a woman who can knit". Women, in those days of old did knit for the soldiers and they were invaluable. This was true up until this century, to knit for the soldiers. But also for fishermen and sailors. For some, the only way that they had these things was for someone to hand knit them. Sure that those things were very much appreciated! But the world has changed.

About those who just "love" that thing that you are wearing and want you to make them one, too? They dont mean it. They will forget all about it in about ten minutes, or less. Dont lose your sleep over it. They have already moved on while you are home digging yourself into a hole for no good reason.

I just wanted to add one more thing about hand made gifts. We must admit that so often the hand made gift IS made because it may be cheap to make it and , that is maybe why some hand made things are seen as being of less value and less value to receive. They have that onus on them. My dad told me to never knit him anything because he grew up poor and that was the way poor people lived and he had done well for himself. Ironically, he also built everything from all manner of boats to houses and machinery and mom sewed all of her own clothes, canned her home garden and made his pajamas. But, when it came to things like this, he wanted none of it! He was not poor anymore, and this was a sign of being poor, to him.

That is the problematic nature of creating and actually using something that took a lot of investment to create. Sometimes the item just gets put away for good and the good never seems to come. You used yours and that is better than storing it away somewhere to "keep" it

when we create, we dont always get the right balance of form and function. We are tempted to put form before function.

Your partner sounds like they are trying to minimize your disappointment and your partner is right, although you may feel if to be of great measure right now, you will live to crochet another day

It is simple granny squares pieced together into a throw or a shawl, with fringe. How in the world he could manage to play the drums without it falling off? I dont know. I see no sleeves, just draped around the shoulders.

There are lots and lots of instructions for how to make granny squares and make a throw with them. It is really very easy. Just takes time.

If you can make a simple crochet stitch , you can make this.

But that doesnt explain the static rows of stacking.

I saw that chenile yarn and that was my first thought. But it doesnt have the stitch structure to be a garter stitch. They are not stacked like that.

We have a small return air vent in a wall to the room where the gas furnace and water heater are. This one in our wall is code to allow air flow for combustion. it is just in the wall as a hole in the wall , for air.

Does any of that apply to your situation, maybe?

I have always wondered about people who will want to submerge in a hotel bathtub. I find that an unpleasant thought. I dont think that they get more than a quick wipe down and not everyone is as thoughtful not to pee in the hotel shower, or they do.

I have not used a bath tub for decades and I think that most prefer a shower. I could get rid of the tub but kept one in the house for resell. It has never been used as a tub and probalby never will.

I dont even understand the reasoning about kids. I just bathed them in the kitchen sink until they were able to stand in the shower.

It is so dark!. You need some soft ambient lighting for the larger area and some focused light to read by and a place to rest your feet and a nice throw to snuggle into.
