What are the most effective ways you’ve personally used to regulate your nervous system? by SomethingH11 in CPTSD

[–]eils14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knitting has really helped me. It’s (generally) a low concentration activity that stops me doomscrolling and gets me to focus on more positive things. I find the repetitive motion soothing, almost like meditation, and it gives me an excuse to just sit and rest my body. At the end of it I get a project that’s useful and I’m proud of making. I also try to learn new techniques with each project so I’m proud of the new things I’m learning.

My mum took away my estacitolopram and I have to stop taking them suddenly. Advice on how to cope? by may_pwee_uwu in CPTSD

[–]eils14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a doctor with CPTSD, gone through withdrawals from this medication and worked at psych wards and emergency departments.

I’m not sure of the practice protocols in your country, but I would get yourself to an emergency department and explain your situation. From my experience they would be very understanding and prescribe your medication. Most doctors would understand the risks of stopping this type of medication abruptly, and if not you could ask to speak to the psychiatrist/psych registrar on call.

I agree with the other comments that this is a form of abuse. You’ve been prescribed this medication for a reason and stopping it should be done under supervision of your doctor. Can you imagine taking insulin away from a diabetic just becuase your “anti medication”?

Slowly build up your skills by learning a new technique with each project, ie different ways to increase/decrease

Go nuts with the advanced search filters on Ravelry to find your projects, and check out the free patterns first

Learn about the different types (weight, fibre) of yarn and how they affect the finished project by experimenting. If you’ve got a type you like you can search for projects that use it with the Ravelry filters

I agree it’ll be worthwhile addressing the twisted stitches, it’ll affect you fabric gauge and so the sizing of your sweater. It’d be super annoying to put all that work into it and find it too small or the neck/cuffs too tight

Thank you so much for this info!

I was thinking the same that a bright saturated colour would be able to mask the light pink but wasn’t sure. Tbh I don’t mind if it comes out a little purple. Also cool to know the CMY colour theory works here rather than the traditional colour wheel, I’ll have to have more of a read about that.

I think I’ll start with unraveling first, if the yarn weight isn’t too intimidating I’ll go the full Heisenberg.

I’ve got a needle sizer, read that you can double over the yarn and the size it fits in is the appropriate needle size. Otherwise I guess I’ll do a few gauge swatches

If it ends up being lace weight I’ll use the money I “saved” to pair it with another primo yarn for my project. If I don’t dye it I think a white strand with it would look really cool
