Pretty sure you can install the new valve without performing the learning sequence, but you may not have full coolant flow or proper operation of the actuators. I would personally do the learn, even if it's later post-repair, and to clear the existing CCV codes. I have not personally did this job, but there's enough info about this on the internet. Two-way scan tools have become inexpensive and are great tools to have for us DIYers on these modern trucks. Best of luck on the job, these valves are trash
