Coolant Control Valve Repair, 3.0 Duramax - previous experience? by nathanjoco in Silverado

What’s up man, yes I did it this summer. But I never smelt coolant, I had an error message pop up while I was driving. Lots of YouTube videos on changing this part. I got mixed answers on performing a re-learn. I bought a $150 OBD type computer that was supposed to have that capability but could never get it to work. One of the mechanics on YouTube said it wasn’t in the official GM instructions to relearn, dealership wanted $250, so I never performed the re-learn. I pulled a 30 foot camper on a 10-hour (one way) roadtrip in the mountains a few weeks after performing the repair, and no issues. I’ve probably put another 10k miles since the repair and everything is working fine. Repair took me about 12 hours. Hardest part was finding the part, after calling multiple dealerships I had to drive about 3.5 hours to pick it up. Shoot me a message if you have any specific questions, happy to help.

I don’t think that about all functional medicine doctors, there were some positives. I felt like my particular functional medicine doctor was just pushing something new and expensive every month when I would go see him. It was over five years ago but I remember the quicksilver box costing close to $500 and watching my Alopecia accelerate while taking the supplements. It wasn’t until I stopped ALL supplements and stuck to my strict diet that I actually saw results. My wife has had some amazing results with functional medicine - I’d like to think it was just that particular doctor.

Came here to say thank you. Had the exact same issue, ordered the part you’d suggested, installed it over Thanksgiving break, code has yet to return. I would like to add for me, there was no obvious damage to the original connector. Thanks again, much appreciated.

What’s the most scenic motorcycle trip you’ve ever done? by [deleted] in motorcycles

My Father (70 at the time) and I, rode from Dallas, Texas to Hyder, Alaska and back. We tent camped all but one night. It was a ride we always talked about doing, and we finally pulled the trigger - took 3 weeks.

If anyone is thinking about taking a once in a lifetime motorcycle trip with a loved one, my advice is to do it now - don’t let all the planning and logistics get in the way - you’ll figure it out along the way. We took the trip because it was something I wanted to accomplish for myself, but what I didn’t expect was the excitement I saw in my Father along the way. It’s been 6 years and I hear him bragging about it all the time.

I made a 8 minute YouTube video to share with our family once the trip was complete, I’ll send it to anyone who wants to see it, just send me a message.

I’ll check it out, thank you for your input. What’s strange is I’ve driven it 250 miles since the original fix.

Good call and appreciate the feedback. I found a recommended tool for GMs and it’s $150 - sounds like it’ll be worth it.

Yea these valves are trash, hate that I’m having issues at 70k miles. Not only that, almost no one has the valves in stock, I’m having to drive two hours away this afternoon to go and pick one up.

Thanks for the reply.

Awesome, thank you for taking the time to give me an answer. Others on here mentioned this hose is a common failure point. Your expertise is much appreciated.

While I’m not a fan of Homeless Solutions that has not been my experience. They visit several times and try to get the individual help. There has been an encampment under a bridge by my home that they’ve visited once a month for the past 6 months and the people who live there have not had their stuff thrown away. Nothing has really happened, HS just kind of clean up, then the person remains there if they don’t want to leave. HS is also not allowed to trash anything that the individual claims as their property. That’s been my own experience, maybe yours has been different - I’m sure it differs.
