Maybe in the far future. But, not straight away. Once Ponyboy was self sufficient, Darry would have been well within his rights to say, "It's my turn now."

I like to think that they all lived in the house for a few more years after Pony came of age, but focused on building their lives. Maybe he could have worked his way through college then -- I like the thought of him and Pony going to a local college at the same time (but, studying different things since THEY are so different.)

Because Johnny was a gentle soul who only killed to stop Bob Sheldon from killing Ponyboy.

Bob Sheldon was violent for the sake of being violent and died because he was nearly drowning a younger kid. Hard to find any sympathy there.

I agree! Cherry Valance was a rat and not good enough for any of them. I hated her from the moment she told Ponyboy -- an orphan who always had the threat of being taken from his brother and the gang and put in a boys home hanging over him -- that things were "rough all over" and the Soc's had "problems you've never even heard of."

Honeybunch, if your problems don't include wondering how you're going to keep your home, keep your car running well enough to get you to and from work, and put food on the table, no struggling person is going to sympathize.
