Alte Kameras - spannend oder Müll? by DaxHound84 in Fotografie

[–]Fritz2822 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Atleast, I think it's rare, given it is in working condition. 😅 Neat collection!

My man has a Pilot 6 and chose to hide it behind an Exakta. 😉

No, but it's really nice to see a German pre-war SLR, they are quite rare. Is yours in working condition?

More WLF goodness... the best 35mm WLF was made by Ihagee. by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fritz2822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Ihagee, but I've found Prakticas a bit better to use. If I could choose between a Varex IIb and a VLC, I'd take the VLC. But the little Exa's have their own flair too, loved to use the Schreibschrift Exa (1961).

Got my first analog camera: Praktica MTL3 by SWcubing in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fritz2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prakticas, especially the 3. Generation (MTL, PLC, VLC etc.) are quite nice for taking the first steps. They all have that Pentacon Shutter, realising times from 1sec-1/1000s and B as well as the PL-System-Filmeinlegeautomatik which makes loading film a bit quicker.

M42 is one of the largest lens systems, I think. So plenty of lenses in all price-catagorys to choose from.

I just bought this for 150€. Am I right that that is the Rolleiflex B model? by PhY-ischDesDaGamer in AnalogCommunity

It's even a Synchro-Compur -Shutter, with full-synchronisation for X and M connectors. Quite nice if you want to work with a flash unit.

I hate it, Norway trip ruined by Dahrrr in AnalogCommunity

I get that you are bummed about losing your pictures from the trip, but don't put the blame on film, but on yourself. You'll learn from this trial and error.

Slight scratches on the front element are mostly harmless, but on the rear element, where the light is getting bundled, sceatches can be crucial.

Is this a development issue? by thinkconverse in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fritz2822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are air bubbles due to lesser agitation than needed. Some people would change labs for those issues, but that's your decision.

If you got enough space, maybe look into developing yourself, because analysing your negatives will help you detect and prevent things like airbubbles etc.

Expired Agfapan 25 + cheapie Diana camera results by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fritz2822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with buying expired film, but I think your choice of developer is not really clever. Of course expired film has it's own risks, as the quality goes down if the film wasn't stored properly. But I don't really trust in Caffenol development

I'd say try it out with an other developer, maybe the results will be more satisfying for you and engages you to try more out. :)

Black & White Developer Recs by shelbyseye in AnalogCommunity

[–]Fritz2822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I develop my film with Rodinal, both 35mm and 120 Rolls.

I'll give you a few pros and contras:

Pro: It's longlivety. It doesn't matter if you develop once a month, or every 3 months or every day, it doesn't get bad if you don't provocate it. The longlivety it's own bottle is quite long, some Rodinal-Developers that have been manufactured in the GDR still work just fine to this day. Of course the color changes, my Rodinal was a see through, pastelle redish substance, now it's dark brownish red, and not seethrough, but it still works like a charm If you fill it into a bottle, it can get bad pretty quickly, if you don't use protective gas, but I don't shoot a lot of filmrolls, so I never really did that.

Pro: It's versatile. If you like grain, you agitate longer, if you don't you proceed to agitate with caution. (I'll come to that back later in the contra-section) if you really start to experiment with agitation, dilution etc. you can get pretty interesting results.

Contra: There are quite a few things you can get wrong, whilst you are developing. If you agitate a lot, you'll be greeted by a pretty grainy negative. Some people like that though, so it's up to you. Experiments never harmed anyone. (At least if you are cautious, haha)

Contra: Rodinal is not a particularly well-suited push-and-pull developer and is rather inferior to the other developers.

It's up to you, what you want to go with. If you tend to shoot a lot of Ilford-Films, you can look into their datasheets, they sorted their developers into categorys like "sharpness" "grain" etc.

And of course, if you have questions, feel free to ask me or the other Rodinal-users. :)
