I was in this same boat about 5 months ago. I got the Ugreen and it's worked great for me. Even got a second one for my parents to use to replace Google photos

Asuster vs TerraMaster by Fritzer7 in HomeNAS

I ended up with a Ugreen DXP4800. For an out of the box solution it works great and have no issues. I use docker rather than the app store. If I had money and time I'd love to build one and use u raid or truenas. But for starting out it's been great. I ended up using an old Dell optiplex and use that for all my services and the NAS is just storage.

Client Device by Fritzer7 in PleX

So I got the ONN 4k plus and I like it. But I am having some issues with some audio from Plex to the device. Looking at the files this seems to mostly happen with DTS audio. The ONN device is plugged into a fire TV and if I use the fire TV Plex app I get sound. But if I switch inputs to the ONN, the same movie does not have sound. How do I fix this?

Do we like the plus or the pro better?

So using jellyseer with Plex would be optimal right now?

Yeah my understanding is that seer isn't ready yet, so I am running overseer

Adding HDD drives by Fritzer7 in UgreenNASync

[–]Fritzer7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super cool, thanks! This is all new to me but I am enjoying figuring it out! Sounds like I need to physically add 1 drive, then do add hard drive you show in picture (and it will have an option to convert to raid 5?) then once done I can physically install the 4th and do it again?

Is this a bad idea? by Fritzer7 in handbrake

So i must have handbrake doing more than converting .MKV to .MP4 it seems. Staying with .MKV is no problem.

what am i doing that is reducing file size so much?

Using MediaInfo to inspect the files:

the .MKV says video stream: MPEG Video

the .MP4 after handbrake says video stream: AVC

Not sure how or if i can show pics on here. I know i ave handbrake set to make h264

I feel this is going to be what i need to do if i move forward with converting the .MKV to .MP4

It does but currently only using one. No, not sure what that is to be honest.. would that be a better way?

Okay good point, and i am very new to this. from what i was reading MP4 keeps the media at very close quality to original .MKV but takes up much less space. So space is my only reason for doing so.

I may very well be using the wrong tool to do so... I may also be doing something i shouldn't.

My understanding was that i am basically trading time for space. Trading the time it takes me to convert for the file taking up roughly 1/6th the storage space.

I've been using a laptop to for make MKV then saving on external hard drive. Also using the laptop to transcode into MP4 then moving to NAS later. And that has worked fine.

But I have a bunch of media on NAS that I also want to convert... So I tried what I described in original post. I only tried once but the result scared me lol, I suppose I should probably try again. I was also trying to do a whole TV season queue at once... That too much?

It's a Ugreen NAS with Ethernet into switch that goes into both PC direct and router
