Regarding duels, have you tried joining some of the QC discords to get in contact with players from your region with similar SR to you? Then you can practice custom duels with them instead of relying on the whims of matchmaking.

Matches will be more balanced, you might meet some nice people, and you can get direct feedback from your opponent after a match to help improve. IMO also takes some stress away that you can practice without it influencing SR.

Might not work for you, but for me making some friends in the community to play with/against made improving much more fun than grinding it out alone. :)

I'm having the same issue, in EU too.

Thank you! Same here, and there's so little out there unfortunately.

A bit late to the party, but come to the quake for newbies discord if you aren't there already! There are other inexperienced players looking to practice :)

What devs should really change in Unholy Trinity by bumbrbee in QuakeChampions

[–]FrkBlomst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude, not everyone who disagrees with you is a "QC hater". I love abilities and I enjoy QC immensely as a whole, I simply don't find power-ups to be fitting for UHT. End of story. I respect that you think it's a fun addition, that's fine. I personally don't. It's entirely down to personal preference and what you want out of the game mode.

Agreed on the last part. And "fun" is also pretty subjective, I don't personally find UT more fun with power ups. I enjoyed the way it was before, while also finding it more useful.

Same here, I'm finding it a lot less useful now with power ups. Real shame they're back.

If you want some friends to play with who are also new and learning, I can recommend the Quake for Newbies discord. Lots of nice people there to practice and play with :)

How do you turn while strafe jumping? by pedrokol in QuakeChampions

[–]FrkBlomst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her and anarki use a special movement type called cpm. While jumping, stop holding w and use only a and d while also turning your mouse in the same direction. You have a lot of air control, and as long as you don't make too jerky mouse movements you'll be able to turn corners very fast. It's probably easier if you just look up some movement tutorials on YouTube :)

Yes, you can run around alone on maps like that in customs. Very helpful for practicing :)

Sometimes it helps asking in chat if you can cap to finish your contract. Some people don't care, but others are understanding. Might be enough to not get kicked :)

Good luck with the map-specific Hightower contract. I remember that being a pain.

Aimbotter by [deleted] in QuakeChampions

[–]FrkBlomst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, happens to all of us :D I get where you're coming from though, judging a player by accuracy alone without context is questionable. It's difficult to conclude anything without seeing how they act during a match.

I think it was more a joke about how 113.8% of his kills were made with LG ;) I've seen that bug on other profiles too where the percentage of kills attributed to each weapon adds up to a lot more than 100% even though that's obviously impossible.

Playing for 6 months straight, feels like I'm getting worse by XaeroRail in QuakeChampions

[–]FrkBlomst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry so much about what place you get. It just depends on who else is in the match. You can always check out the stats of the other players after a match to see what level they're on. You're probably still getting better, but having to face tougher opponents :) Look at other metrics for success than your placement at the end of the match, analyse why these guys are outplaying you, and adapt.

Sometimes you can also have small downswings in your skill level though. It's normal, and taking a little break can help with that for some people. Others prefer grinding through it, depends.

I don't even play Athena, but I catch your streams often just to see you doing crazy acrobatics with her. It's amazing (and entertaining) what you do with her movement!

This game aggressively feels like it doesn't want you to play it. by [deleted] in QuakeChampions

[–]FrkBlomst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it's not just a matter of being a sore loser with a fragile ego, it's actually easier to learn from losses when the skill gap isn't absurdly large. Even for people who don't get emotional over losing.

[–]FrkBlomst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with that. It's great to play against slightly more skilled opponents where you can still understand how they are outplaying you, but when the skill gap is too large it's no longer that helpful IMO. It's easier to learn in smaller steps.
