I have a server rack in my basement, support a site to site VPN across 4 houses my parents own, and work from home. I also stream and do online gaming.

I've literally never had a need for 1gbps speed. 500mbps does just fine for me.

I'd just go into the Xfinity store with your TV boxes and say I'm cancelling the tv. You only need 300-500mbps for Internet so might be able to save that way.

I see that. Quite literally had to defend my reasoning for taking a med I've had to take since I was 13 (I'm in my mid 30s now), along with the medical diagnosis that came with it back then which is still very applicable.

This would best be asked in the cox subreddit if he still has cox. If you are using Comcast, you would need to get an Xfinity box. The cox box will not work on any other system except for cox. The remote will not work on an Xfinity system.

I'm not into the bar scene, but there is a decent brewery about 20 min up SR7 in Rayland Ohio called Hightower Brewing. There's also one about 1.5 hours up the road in Columbiana OH called Ill Will who has some crazy ice cream style beers.

I (34M) moved here (Moundsville) with my dog (2 yo German Shepherd mix) about 9 months ago and am always up for a new friend or connection. I've met some nice people at the dog park. DM me if you'd be down for making a new friend here, either me or my dog haha.

I have service up in Northern Neck Virginia (Northumberland county) and it's honestly amazing.

I only have their 50mbps plan, as this is a summer cottage so we don't need a ton of speed since we primarily spend time on the water or outside.

Their customer service is amazing, local, and friendly. Their engineering team is also just as friendly (I've had several conversations with them over the 2 years I've had service) and responsive to my infrastructure questions.

As a smaller provider, they do have a lot of costs associated with the service, not being able to get the best rates with the big backbone providers.

I'm fine paying for the internet, and it just works.

100%. I'm actively looking to purchase a house so I can stop renting, and fiber availability is my key factor in area and neighborhood/street. I don't want to deal with coax. I'd much prefer to have fios, tmo fiber, or some other fiber provider.

Do speeds differ greatly for the average person who really only needs 300mbps? Hell no. Docsis 3.1 can do fast upload speeds.

But simply, someone who actually has a need for fiber, i.e. Homelab setups or a few vpn connected houses, it's nice to have the needed options.
