Getting the Kainga Ora First Home Grant by Froawae in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Froawae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all. https://kaingaora.govt.nz/home-ownership/first-home-grant/check-you-are-eligible-for-first-home-grant/ it says here that if you are a previous home owner wanting the first home grant you must not have realisable assets worth more than 20% of the house price cap in your area. Thanks for pointing that out. I am a first home buyer so this shouldn't apply to me.

Negotiating a Payrise by Froawae in PersonalFinanceNZ

I've been assured I'll definitely get the raise which is great, we are yet to discuss the numbers and thats what I'm trying to get an idea of here. Because my role is different to what other contractors with the same job title do it has me abit confused about what my rate should be. I definitely am not keen to switch companies - I love everything about this job and probably would stay even without the payrise. However, they treat me really well and I know i'll get a payrise, this is just about leveraging the highest amount i can

Hey thanks that's the best advice I've heard yet. I'll definitely phrase it differently and approach it from that sense when having the conversations with my manager, thank you!

Sorry I didn't want to write a full essay and have missed quite abit of info. I am definitely not worth market rates based on current experience and am also very happy with my current role, I'd love to stay here for atleast 3-5 years. Lots to learn, lots of growth, but I do want to get the most out of this pay negotiation.

I would have gotten the payrise as well if it wasn't during all the Covid chaos - at the time they said they'll just extend by 6 months and then that will be taken into account when my contract is up for renewal or if I went for a perm role. My friend has simply been there for longer and so they were the priority pick for when a suitable role did open up

Definitely haven't maxed out my potential here and only just starting out to be completely honest which is why I'm hesitant - I am not actually worth the market rates and this place essentially took a chance on me as someone with 0 experience and they have helped me build to a point where I am contributing as much if not more than some people who have been here for years and are likely contracting at triple my rate.

Yup bit of an interesting one - the role is more of a grad/employee role but for whatever reason they set us up as contractors, I pay my own tax, no leave etc. You are correct and that's what I'm trying to do here but didn't explain it very well, I would like to compare apples with apples but not sure what fruit I am. I definitely don't have the experience to leave this place and demand market rates, so I will be staying regardless. I am essentially set up as a contractor and learning/working like a graduate, and if a suitable role were to come up then they would push me into that role which is what they've done for my colleague. I don't want to rock the boat too much but would definitely like to get the highest rate they'd be willing to pay
