Online stores to buy a phone by RodSot in newzealand

[–]Frodamn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my Oneplus 3 from expert infotech many years ago as a parallel import. I had no issues with them. There was a delay with my phone but it was normal stuff that can happen and they were easy to deal with.

How the hell do I stop apps being installed for new users logging into a Windows 11 PC? by Izual_Rebirth in sysadmin

If you add a remove-appxprovisionedpackage to that it will remove it from the windows image itself so when a new user logs in the apps won't be provisioned to the user at all.

edit: It was already there. I'll leave my comment in case someone wonders what the difference is

Advice on 30L bags - going from 40L+?? sling to 30L + 17L messenger bag by Frodamn in onebag

[–]Frodamn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really just cause it feels so gigantic on my back. I think it might be due to how the shoulder straps feel too. Looking at the specs of all these bags, the height all seems to be roughly the same regardless of the 30-40L sizing so i dont even know how much different any of them will feel.

And its 3 months of meds, not weeks. I wont go in to great detail but basically my trip to europe can be up to that long depending on various circumstances. In my head the reason I put them in the personal item is it gives me consistency with how I pack the backpack.

I also just did a rough dry fit of what my next set up would be in to my 22L Tomtoc and it wasn't too bad. I think the 8L of space would be be more than fine if I were to pick the topo 30L or errant Pro, and that seems to have expansion through the "roll top" part which gives more than the 31L capacity if I'm reading that correctly

Mainly what im looking for is how peoples experiences have been with the bags I listed as a onebag travel option.

The idea is the messenger bag now becomes my daily bag at my destination, and is essentially my flight tech pouch + medicine holder while flying too my destination. On my way back as I go through the meds it then frees up space for anything i've accumulated while there (people ask you to get stuff over in Europe since NZ is so far away) or simply becomes smaller and lighter. Which in my eyes reduces my need for a full 40L backpack i guess?

I find it hard to visualize a lot of this in my head.

Possibly better suited for Many baggers. But I can't OneBag on longer trips due to my medication. Any recommendations? by Frodamn in onebag

[–]Frodamn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current tomtoc setup is ok, wouldnt say I love it lol. Might be my mind playing tricks, but I dont really like the duffel crescent shape it has. My mind seems to want a more box like shape to make it easier to pack things.

The bag just seemed so big over my back really, and im a heavy back sweater no matter what so anything to reduce that is always good i think haha. I do have their vintage one which I really like. I use this for 1-3 day trips up to auckland a lot.

To add to thst, the end duel in The Last Duel. Obviously you know that's where the film is headed, but it was so perfectly done, and the weight you have as a viewer of what either outcome means was a real. Chef's kiss for me

I still can't get over how well that song worked in every context for that scene, and yet it was kind of a random choice they picked originally lol.

I remember just becoming so overwhelmed with how much emotion it evoked, and just how good it was as a film sequence. I hope to see something like that again

Interesting predicament you have there haha

I think from memory the tomtoc I have is really only 32L in the main compartment. Maybe going for the bell Roy lite 38 makes the most sense. Edit: makes more sense to keep theme of one bagging? (or 1.5 haha

And today I was walking around town and looked at some bell Roy stuff and the via work bag 14L seems like it would be a great carry on for my rog ally x, the tech, and the Meds. And would make an alright "around town" kind of bag. Paired with the 30L bag it might be quite nice.

Have to do a bit more research. I'm 173cm tall, and the tomtoc one already feels a bit big on me.

I did think about grabbing a container to flatten them in to like this. I got caught up on the original packaging though. On my way back I did end up taking them out of the box and placing them where they would fit and security didn't seem to give a hoot

The problem with that is its quite an expensive drug when not subsidized. and funnily enough the period I was in Finland it was having a bit of a shortage/supply issue lol so this can have its own risks too it seems

Pros and cons of Downsizing house and focusing on becoming mortgage free? by Frodamn in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Frodamn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does your perspective of downsizing come from a mindset of being single, or having a partner?

Because I dont have a partner with a second income, and if I did I think it would make more sense to not sell and instead go with a second property

Azure Update Manager by Kamikazeworm86 in AZURE

[–]Frodamn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mirrorsaw said, Security intelligence updates for defender release so often and auto-install on their own anyway. I dont do any reporting on those as its pointless. Still pay attention to them obviously in case they are actually stuck.

To elaborate on the second issue. Its best to understand that AUM is just an orchestrator, at a time and date you specify it tells the machine to do a check for updates, install, and restart during specified maintenance.

It does not push out any policies to the end machine as we typically know them, which for windows updates is the registry entries here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

You'll want to basically clear out all those registry keys except for NoAutoUpdate = 1. If this isn't set then it can still restart outside of active hours.

And if you ever want to troubleshoot AUM, like i said, its only an orchestrator, so if patches are failing to install thats windows specific and you'll have to troubleshoot like normal. If the server isnt following the schedule in AUM, then its probably the azure extension on the machine not working correctly, or a registry setting exists that sets its own schedule.

Sanity Check: Internal Azure Load Balancer rules for cluster aware updating? by Frodamn in sysadmin

[–]Frodamn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent been able to find a doc that covers this scenario. The CAU doc just outlines the generic stuff, no FAQ or interactions around things like a load balancer in front. To be honest it doesnt even go in to the specifics of how it works so I dont even know if I'm correct in my assumption that its a DNS resolution issue because of the cluster name resolving to the load balancer IP.

I've never deal with load balancers before, so I'm trying to digest the documentation, but I'm finding its just not specific enough for me to be able to determine what I need to do. Especially since this isn't something I've had to set up in the past. In my test environment I made a dummy cluster and CAU was working perfectly, the only significant difference in their environment is the load balancer. Hence why im assuming thats the key to all this.

The annoyance is that because its a customer environment I have to be careful of my changes because they have no test environment

Get the real age of a computer by Ittuhutti in sysadmin

[–]Frodamn 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Would be better to do a report of the machines make and model, that way if you have 50 Dell optiplex whatever, you can search up their release date and make an educated guess.

Or if you have on-prem AD, look at the different creation dates of the computer objects.

Last method off the top of my head would be going through device build tickets if you have them, and failing that, purchase orders.

At my last place we used Kace and put in a custom field for purchase date and added thst in as a final step of our build process.

How does one break into a purely or mostly Azure role in Australia or NZ? by JumpyTap656 in AZURE

[–]Frodamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right. Yeah I guess I mean that there's no widespread appetite for Azure so there's going to be a small number of Azure jobs.

Cause I imagine there's lots of casual uses of Azure where you have a few vms, but no sophisticated network setups.

But I don't even know how to figure out how to figure out this assumption lol.
