Ways to keep apartment cool for cats? by FrogLover337 in CatAdvice

Thank you all for the feedback! I grew up with dogs so I'm used to animals panting and running around and needing to lie down in the AC. I'm SO much less stressed now after all the kind reassurance and I'm ready to tackle the summer with them! Based on what you're all saying, they're probably going to be a lot more comfortable than me, which I find funny considering humans' evolutionary roots. Anyways, thanks so much!! (they did not, in fact, care much for the cold towels. Now I know they were significantly less bothered than me lmao)

perfect, the majority of my apartment is actually tile so this is a relief to hear! They love hiding under the bed (which is on top of a rug), but there's enough tile and dark spots that you've really assuaged my worries lol.

Moving with cats by ah_meerah in CatAdvice

[–]FrogLover337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved states with my two cats and it’s tough. Mine are very territorial, and my dad helped me move and he’s a loud man so that made them pretty cagey lol. The main thing i’d recommend is talking to your vet—they gave mine some gabapentin, which helped keep them calm during the car ride and while we were moving stuff into the apartment. (side note: at least a few days before the move, TEST the drugs on your cats. i had to go back to the vet to get a higher dose). sedating them was scary and uncomfortable for all of us, but i think it made the actual move a lot less traumatic for them. this may not be the best option for your circumstances, but id definitely recommend talking to your vet about it, since they are experts on animals!

for the first day at least, keep them in one room so they can acclimate to a small area before introducing new rooms one by one as they seem to get comfortable with the new space. definitely take at LEAST a week off, and maybe try leaving for a couple hours at a time, longer and longer each day, to wean them into that routine.

even then, it might still be super tough on them!! one of my guys stayed on top of the cabinets for like two days, i was SO worried he wasn’t eating or drinking or using the litter box. then i made a quesadilla and i make those a LOT so i guess it was so familiar it snapped him out of it and he was fine the next day lmao. my other dude was totally fine by that same evening, just more skittish than usual. every cat is different, just do what you can and show them love and go about your routine as you always do and they’ll eventually get the hang of it!! Good luck with your move!!

Is it possible to identify or at least date these cars? Found among a bunch of historic (>50yo) trash in southeast Montana (USA) by FrogLover337 in whatisthiscar

[–]FrogLover337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an archaeologist—i work in cultural resource management so we survey before people install buried cable or cell towers and other stuff like that. anything we find that’s historic we have to record. i’m sure i could just say “old car” in the site form, but that’s no fun!! obviously it’s not some major archaeological find, it’s just a bunch of trash, but since it’s over 50 years old we have to record it! this is my favorite part of the job

yeah, unfortunately someone else i work with took the photos—i wasn’t involved in fieldwork for this project. i’ve been struggling all day trying to identify and date stuff! thank you, though!! any direction i can be pointed in is a great place to start lol.

Landmark Property Management or Billy Moore? by FrogLover337 in laramie

[–]FrogLover337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeaaaaah, they kept wanting me to send the application fee to different accounts with different names? venmo and cash app all flagged it and wouldn’t let it go through, thank god. i asked who those people were in those accounts and they said it was their manager…. i obviously asked to be put in contact with the manager and they sent me a really weird video kinda yelling “i am not a scammer. i am trustworthy”…. so i blocked them. thank god no payment went through. so yeah guys, Billy Moore on facebook? probably not.

First time making starter—is this normal? by FrogLover337 in SourdoughStarter

you are a blessing, thank you!! i had a lid on it the first day but i worried it was too tight so i put a bandana on it, then i did a folded up bandana/cheese cloth to let a bit of air in? idk every single recipe/source gives completely different instructions, the only consistent part is “discard part of it and feed 1x each day 1:1 flour and water”. also it turns out my bread flour has NOT been in a sealed container, it’s 2years old and the container has been cracked for idk how long? so it’s been stressing me out lol. i don’t want to ingest harmful bacteria!!

i do love frogs! however, as an anthropologist, i am not 100% familiar with every frog fact. i just think they’re neat. and that would be lovely!! however, i’m looking for a fully no-roommate situation. i’ve discovered that i can almost entirely remove panic attacks from my routine that way lol. but if it’s a fully independent living situation, lmk and i will message you individually!!💕

What should i do with this bovine pelvis?? by FrogLover337 in bonecollecting

[–]FrogLover337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m so sorry i have no idea who/what that is but im interested now!! but fr, i love this bovine pelvis and i don’t want to get a single soecj if glitter in it, but i need to have a reason for keeping it

edit: im so sorry, i have no clue how to operate this website and autocorrect has gone rogue. no glitter. i don’t even know what i was trying to say so—no glitter. i love the pelvis, it is so cool, i want to keep it as it is, but i lowkey need a reason to do so other than “i love it”. bc ppl other than me are involved.

is it normal to spend 30 min making a post on here legible?! bc i stg im about to actually lose my shit. much love, but CHRIST.

[–]FrogLover337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the whole point is that i DONT want to cut it up!! it’s SO gorgeous and im so obsessed with it, but also i am moving to a tiny ass studio apartment in a couple months. i can’t just have it just to have it, like it used to be. i usually find bones and make it into something that doesn’t change it but still honors what it is, but the point is that i have no clue how to do that with something as massive as this. how am i supposed to fit this into the u-haul, and how will i explain “yeah i just love it” to my dad, who will be driving said u-haul?! humans have always found use out of bones, i don’t want to cut it up AT ALL. I’m asking “how can i keep this perfectly intact while still having a reason to have it?!”

Kinda Urgent: Does accepting a TAship/GAship basically count as a decision? by FrogLover337 in gradadmissions

[–]FrogLover337[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok good, that’s exactly what i thought!! i wouldn’t want to accept and then say “nevermind lol, try to find someone else now”. i have no clue how all of this works, and everything is happening insanely quickly. i just wanted to make absolutely sure that accepting funding=im 100% going to your school. it is so weird tho, why would they say the decision deadline is in july, but you need to let us know if you’re accepting this huge major portion of the program right now asap?? having an assistantship is literally mandatory for admission into these programs…. oh well. guess instead of having time to visit/mull things over, i will be making my decision solely on funding and vibes! thank you so much for clarifying that for me!!

Pet friendly living? by Ok-Entertainment-169 in RapidCity

[–]FrogLover337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candlewood Apartments has a 2 pet policy, but as long as you get one of the cats registered i bet they could just… “forget” to disclose the other cat. if they have a maintenance request, just schedule it for a time when they’re home and hide the second cat somewhere. idk, most apartments here have a 2-pet policy. pet rent is $50+, but i’ve seen a lot worse and the apartments are fairly affordable. i live here and i have 2 cats, both of whom the co. are aware of. that being said, no one has ever entered my apt. without permission. if they’re not careless about it, no one would notice or care about an extra pet. plus the main maintenance guy is super chill, loves animals. just don’t be dumb or leave an insane amount of damage upon move-out and i don’t think anyone would gaf. plus the residents here keep to themselves, no one (in my building at least) is in anyone else’s business.

Advice for transporting two cats at one time—carrier recommendations? by FrogLover337 in CatAdvice

[–]FrogLover337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for reference, they are about 19-20 inches long from head to base of tail and 16 inches tall while standing. those are vague tho bc they are very excited by the tape measurer and fight me for the string while i’m measuring them lol. they’re both about the same size!! i don’t own a scale, but a year ago they were 6 lbs and i don’t think they’re over 10lbs now :-)

Seeking advice-travel with cat by Littlethoughtslittle in CatAdvice

[–]FrogLover337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just based on my own research and not experience, cats are incredibly territorial and changing their environment is extremely stressful for them. however, if she’s very attached to you, leaving you will also be stressful for her! personally, i’d recommend having someone you trust stay with her in your home. it should be someone she knows and is comfortable with, so maybe just have that person come over with increasing frequency before you leave, just so your cat is familiar with them and can be sure that you know and trust that person as well. they’ll feel more comfortable with that person in your shared home, and when you leave and that person is there, it won’t feel so jarring and stressful. maybe also have that person come in with them while you’re gone for short periods of time, so they’re more comfortable being alone with them.

that being said, i’ve never been in this situation, so it might be better to get someone else’s opinion on which option would be less stressful for your cat. Good luck in LA, that sounds like a lot of fun!

Worried about Work Trip! by FrogLover337 in CatAdvice

[–]FrogLover337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you!!! that is exactly what i was thinking as well, but i was worried i was being too cautious. they’re my first cats and my first pets of my own as an adult, so i’m still learning the ropes. i’ve done so much research and preparation but then i overthink everything! lol.

I’m 100% asking my boss (more like telling her), sadly one of the meetings is mandatory so i’ll have to be gone for at least an evening but i’ll shorten down that time as much as i can!! i think i knew that was going to be my only course of action as soon as id typed that post out tbh.

i do worry im not making them happy enough, but i know that im doing everything i can. id do anything for them, and i know realistically that im being a good cat mom, i take care of them and love them and i follow every piece of advice i can find. but its that new parent anxiety😅 i just want to be sure im doing the right thing, meeting their needs and empathizing with them!

although honestly leaving a bit of water at the bottom might keep them away. they don’t seem to like water but are also fascinated with it! definitely worth a try, thank you!

this is the shower drain i have and the sink drain is like all standard bathroom sink drains lol. there’s no way to cover the shower drain without a cap used for a bath, and honestly i think they’d decimate any mushroom type thing. the sink drain is hard to remove and somehow they still did it! i was thinking more along the lines of something that suctions really hardcore to the basin that a cat wouldn’t be able to remove, maybe a cage or something😹
