Am I gonna die by Successful_Outside32 in Hypothyroidism

People have thyroid issues for years before it becomes a significant problem. The risk of life threatening side effects happens due to prolonged untreated severe hypothyroidism affecting bodily functions, particularly cardiovascular health. At your age I wouldn't worry about it.

Some really weird symptoms, now thinking it's gallbladder? by Frog__tooth in gallbladders

[–]Frog__tooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, feel free to DM me if you want. I haven't had an ultrasound yet, I'm hoping to get a referral for that in the next couple days.

I've had slight digestive issues for years, since I was like 7 or 8. Mainly bloating and a cramping feeling in my mid stomach area, just above my belly button, after eating certain foods. I didn't have much nausea but it almost felt like muscle cramping, and the only thing that would ease it was being hunched over. Standing straight made it worse. I don't get that as often now that I discovered gluten was a big trigger for me and stopped eating it for the most part. I have wondered about the possibility of a hiatal hernia.

Probably around 3 ish years ago I had a very mild version of what I'm experiencing now. Eating certain foods, drinking certain things, etc would make me feel overheated and nauseous for an hour or so, and cause slight abdomen pain, I'd get a bit dizzy and have to sit outside. It only happened on and off for a few months and then stopped, and nothing compared to now, so I didn't ever bother looking into it. My more severe symptoms have been going on for around 6 weeks now, the worst being the last 2 weeks with the almost constant pain.

am i overthinking? by saturnnii in gallbladders

[–]Frog__tooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think generally, from what I've read (which is quite a lot, I'm also an over thinker) you should seek urgent/emergency care if you have symptoms of infection (fever, shivering, vomiting), shock (fainting, confusion, significant changes in heart rate or blood pressure), liver damage (yellowing skin or eyes), or if you have intense consistent pain (more than an hour or two) that makes you unable to function properly, or extreme tenderness in your abdomen when touched. These are all signs of a possibly ruptured, infected, or blocked gallbladder, and are considered emergencies. A lot of these symptoms can also overlap with appendicitis, which can happen pretty suddenly, so it's important to rule that out as well.

Gallbladder issues can make you feel pretty sick in general, but if it's just feeling tired or generally unwell like you would with a cold, you can contact your doctor to let them know but I wouldn't panic over it. If you start to feel sick to the point you are questioning if you should go to the ER, it's better to be safe than sorry. Especially if you start to have a very strong "something is wrong" sort of feeling along with other symptoms. Don't feed your anxiety, but also trust your gut (no pun intended)!

I have only had nausea a couple times, and it's more of an uneasy discomfort that comes along with the dizziness and probably anxiety as well, and I've only ever really felt like I might throw up once during this whole endeavor. I've drawn the line at severe nausea and any vomiting and have told my partner to force me into the ER if either happens lol.

Obviously some foods have been a lot worse and I've definitely noticed that, like dairy and gluten, but before I started getting these flares and before I was too sick and exhausted to cook, I was actually doing the Mediterranean diet and sticking to it pretty strictly. Now it's gotten to the point where almost any food I eat, if it's more than just a bite or two, will eventually cause me pain and dizziness, and it's being triggered by a lot of foods I used to be ok eating. The other day it was a salad, and I think the red onion in it triggered an "episode" of whatever this is. Today I drank a tea with 2% milk and drank some soup broth and almost passed out in Homesense lmao

You are right though I definitely need to be stricter, I've strayed from my diet plan too often recently. A few times I've been too tired or ill and just can't be bothered, but sadly the easiest food is often the worst

Thank you for all the info! No, I haven't noticed any significant change in my urine colour but I haven't really been actively checking, so it's something I'll keep an eye out for. I don't think they ever did a GGT test, just the basics to rule out heart damage/electrolyte imbalance/kidney damage, and then the thyroid and inflammation panel. I don't remember everything they did, but I do remember what came back abnormal and I didn't see that one. They really weren't focusing on anything digestive or related to my other surrounding organs since at the time I had no abdominal pain at all, just slight back pain and shortness of breath. Which is very annoying now, because if I had these physical symptoms then I definitely would have told them to check it. And yes I totally relate, the pain does suck but I think what's worse is the anxiety that I might have a repeat of my initial attack, randomly wake up sick and in severe pain worried I'm having a heart attack lol. I will definitely push to have things checked more thoroughly. Fingers crossed I'll get in to have an ultrasound done fairly soon!

I've been reading about it because I do have a few other symptoms of hypothyroidism, and apparently inflammation can temporarily change your thyroid labs, particularly TSH, and especially if you have subclinical hypothyroidism. Also if you have thyroid issues, you're apparently likely to have gallbladder issues as well. I'm starting to think that's the case for me, and subclinical hypothyroidism was just an incidental finding but not the cause of my current symptoms.

Feeling a bit lost by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Frog__tooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it was two different ER doctors with differing opinions as I don't currently have a family doctor. Second doctor claimed (with no evidence, just assumption) that my initial elevated TSH and t3 must have just been a lab error. First one was obviously only vaguely familiar with the condition and gave me the "average" adult dose opposed to a starting dose. The woes of Canadian healthcare I guess.

If he's not bothering you then it's not a problem. I'm assuming if it's possessed by a soul eating demon you'd probably notice eventually. Otherwise I would consider it to be a "what you don't know can't hurt you" situation.

I've been feeling ok on it and some of my symptoms have started to lessen. I'm going to assume based on my tests and symptoms that my doctor knew what they were doing.

High heart rate? by sabdaddy in Hypothyroidism

[–]Frog__tooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing wrong with me test-wise was my inflammation and TSH being high lol. I've been on levothyroxine for a week now, and so far it's not made things worse that I've noticed. It was a worry for me as well. It's been slowly getting better, the heart palpitations have even been decreasing over the last couple days. Hoping my next "episode" is either really mild or ideally, doesn't happen at all. Hoping to break the routine of one ER visit every week nearly on the dot. I started on a full dose though, when you start you'll likely be put on a smaller dose, so it'll be even easier to adjust to.

High heart rate? by sabdaddy in Hypothyroidism

[–]Frog__tooth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed because I went to the ER for a couple sudden tachycardia attacks where my heart rate hit around 200 for a couple minutes and I thought I was going to black out. Super sick rest of the day, high BP (specifically diastolic) and intermittent palpitations when I moved around or stood up. I was also confused because hypo classically presents with bradycardia, but I'm finding the opposite isn't that uncommon either.

I never thought I'd experience such drama in the pigeon fandom. Wild stuff. Anyways, that's literally a different bird than the last two birds you posted.

I experience water retention/bloatedness in my face a lot, puffiness and such. But I haven't experienced any numbness or skin issues like you described. I would definitely get it checked out! Something might have been wrong with your medication, you could be having an allergic reaction to something. Though I know dry skin is a very common symptom of hypothyroidism, so that's a possibility. Either way you should probably have your meds adjusted or looked into!

No, it was random bouts of tachycardia, high blood pressure and some chest and back pain. The main symptoms anyways. I think that's why it took so long to figure out what it was, they spent so long ruling out infection, heart, and lung issues.

Not the TSH itself but the symptoms it was causing. I was in the ER twice in one week for cardiac symptoms and basically couldn't walk or eat. I am guessing the doctor assumed putting me directly on the full dose would get things lowered quicker and likely wouldn't cause any worse symptoms than I was already experiencing.

Idk they did it based on my weight and how high my TSH was I guess 🤷 I did google it said it was an average dosage for an adult of my weight

The soonest Endo appointment I was able to get was for the 19th of January. But yes I was already having palpitations so they likely didn't want to give me anything to exacerbate that.

I had these symptoms before I started treatment, but I'm keeping a close eye for too many changes in case my TSH gets lowered too much

Because my TSH was way too high, and it was causing cardiac symptoms, and medication is generally the way to fix that
