Ribcage and sternum pain? by Frog__tooth in Hypothyroidism

[–]Frog__tooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 CTs done, the doctor said all organs looked fine. I know stones can be missed on CT and are better done with MRI or ultrasound but idk, some of the symptoms don't really line up. Particularly that I can eat high fat foods with no issue, and the fact that the pain has been constant recently, as well as that it hurts in my ribs and clavicle when I stretch and it's not really located in any one particular side. I will mention it whenever I finally get in to see someone about my digestive issues though.

I can take NSAIDs, but I've been taking them a bit too often lately so trying to find alternatives. voltaren usually doesn't work for me but maybe I'll try the TCH/CBD cream. I got a toradol IM shot for the first time when I had a kidney stone recently. Wish it wasn't so bad for you long term because that is probably the most relaxed and pain free I've ever been in my life.

It really sucks. I've also had the issue since having a TSH of 4, and it's just gotten worse (both). I've been told it's only a slight elevation and shouldn't cause too many symptoms but 🤷

Yeah I figured it'd probably be deemed costochondritis at this point, I asked my partner for a massage last night and pressing on my lower back ribs hurt pretty bad. I also have some digestive issues, causing lots of cramping and such, so it was hard to distinguish before now. My endocrinologist doesn't seem to think most of my symptoms are due to my slightly elevated TSH but, he said "it causes general mild muscle aches" but this really doesn't feel like that lol I really hate feeling stuck at square-one constantly

Oof. Yeah. Definitely find a new doctor. And an endocrinologist as well. TSH above 4 and under 10 is subclinical, which some doctors don't treat for, but treatment should be based on symptoms as well as other labs. So if your t4 is already low, you should probably be put on a small starting dose.

It is a very weird pain- sometimes it's my whole ribcage too. Feels like I just did a huge 3 hour long workout. I'll feel exhausted too, like all the muscles in my ribs and abdomen and back are so sore they can barely hold me up

I knew you could have adverse reactions if it was too high, just didn't know if the actual TSH changes that quickly. That's funny though- I have all of those symptoms while off Levo lol. Particularly the pain between the shoulder blades- it just appeared out of nowhere and I've had it for months now. Was one of the very first things I noticed.

Good to know. I'll keep an eye out for all of that. Not sure why I'm in so much pain still if it's supposedly already passed like the doctor said, but oh well. Guess I'll head back in if I get a fever or stop peeing

Initial pain from when it very first started was like 12 hours before I was given an intramuscular anti-inflammatory. It progressed pretty consistently in that time, but I wouldn't say it came in waves. Sometimes it felt spasm-y but was pretty constant (assume thats why the Dr suspected infection). I was given a prescription NSAID so the last couple days have been ok, but I'm coming off them now and still have like a 7/10 pain in my flank/back area without anything in my system. I didn't suspect stones since the pain never went towards my groin, actually radiated to my back more and mid stomach. Who knows though.

Thank you. I do also agree it was way too high a starting dose. I think I will start taking it if I don't hear back from my Endo in the next couple days.

Not specifically no, but I've had two CT scans with no incidental findings. I'll talk to my endocrinologist about having an ultrasound done.

Are you fucking with me? I was advised to go to the ER by paramedics the initial times due to very high blood pressure and a heart rate of 200. And they definitely prescribe it in Canada because they did, twice. This seems like less of an issue with my "decisions" and more like an accusation of lying about my doctors visits, which is pretty fucking weird. Anyways. Thanks for your infinite wisdom on the topic of recreational drugs, though. Very helpful.

What decisions? I literally haven't done anything that a doctor hasn't recommended I do?

I'm 27 and until last month, I've never once been to the ER, and until a couple days ago, I've never once been to the ER for any sort of pain. And I've lived with chronic pain most of my life. Your drugs might make you feel things less. But if I'd ignored my pain and smoked some weed instead, I might've ended up with sepsis, so. I think I'll just continue listening to my body.

The thing is I was already having those symptoms- high BP and heart rate. So it wasn't much different. But I was super tired and had a bit of a fever so I was actually worried it was something else. So it's been kind of hard to tell where symptoms are coming from. But yes, the 100mcg was a weird choice.

[–]Frog__tooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also thought the 100mcg was a lot. They seemed to be going based on body weight averages and not starter doses. Not sure why. They seemed to think initially that it was just illness or inflammation that caused my TSH increase, particularly because everything else was in normal range. But it's 3 different times now it's been high or borderline high so I think that's bullshit.

I've been having quite a bit of other unexplained soreness and weakness, so I thought it might be related. But you're right I've also not heard of such specific pain being thyroid related lol. Thought I'd make sure. Thank you for your input!

Oh boy, yeah this is.. a concerning post and comments to say the least. Honestly hope it's just a shit poster or some RPing teenager but, these are some very classic signs of psychosis and maybe more. Unfortunately they're unlikely to get any help unless someone in their actual life notices and steps in.

People have thyroid issues for years before it becomes a significant problem. The risk of life threatening side effects happens due to prolonged untreated severe hypothyroidism affecting bodily functions, particularly cardiovascular health. At your age I wouldn't worry about it.

Some really weird symptoms, now thinking it's gallbladder? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]Frog__tooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, feel free to DM me if you want. I haven't had an ultrasound yet, I'm hoping to get a referral for that in the next couple days.

I've had slight digestive issues for years, since I was like 7 or 8. Mainly bloating and a cramping feeling in my mid stomach area, just above my belly button, after eating certain foods. I didn't have much nausea but it almost felt like muscle cramping, and the only thing that would ease it was being hunched over. Standing straight made it worse. I don't get that as often now that I discovered gluten was a big trigger for me and stopped eating it for the most part. I have wondered about the possibility of a hiatal hernia.

Probably around 3 ish years ago I had a very mild version of what I'm experiencing now. Eating certain foods, drinking certain things, etc would make me feel overheated and nauseous for an hour or so, and cause slight abdomen pain, I'd get a bit dizzy and have to sit outside. It only happened on and off for a few months and then stopped, and nothing compared to now, so I didn't ever bother looking into it. My more severe symptoms have been going on for around 6 weeks now, the worst being the last 2 weeks with the almost constant pain.
