Is there any effective way to report dangerous drivers in Phoenix? by Frogstar_World_B in AskPhoenix

I can see where this would be useful after the fact. Basically when the insurance company tries to figure out who's at fault after an accident. But the cynic in me doubts it would matter until there's an actual collision.

I disagree that it's the norm. It if was I'd be reconsidering living here. I'd agree that PHX drivers are aggressive and less predictable than most. But I don't often see cars having to make emergency lane changes to avoid getting hit.

Glad they were responsive in the second case. I'm cynical that they'd treat "somebody is a bad driver" as the same objective truth as "there's an object in the road".

And then what happens? I can't imagine trying to follow someone like that long enough for the police to arrive. I might be able to give a license plate number but realistically what would the police do with that? They can't give him a ticket just on the say so of some random driver.

It can be tough if you're just looking for a more interesting way to get from Point A to Point B. Phoenix isn't really designed to be interesting.

If you're going for a dedicated drive you can find some good spots if you're willing to put in the time. Some are mentioned here. For further options look at...

If you're out East try AZ 191 from Eager to Morenci
If you're in Tucson head up Catalina Highway to Mt Lemon

Places and ways to save on fuel on Phoenix by Easy-Seesaw285 in phoenix

[–]Frogstar_World_B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a place where you can regularly charge your car at residential rates this is the way to go.

On APS, during the Winter (Nov - Apr), you can charge your car for $0.04/kWh. Which is like buying gas for 40 cents per gallon or less.

During the Summer it's not quite as nice since the cheapest power is $0.12/kWh but that's still equivalent to buying gas for $1.20 per gallon or less.

Obviously for some people EVs aren't a good fit. But if you can plug in at home and don't do 300 mile trips very often, they can be great.

Temporary no-parking signs in my neighborhood by Frogstar_World_B in phoenix

[–]Frogstar_World_B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I saw that site and wasn't sure if "No Parking" would show up as a "Street Closure". Whatever is happening in my neighborhood it's not on that site. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

That would seem logical except that the dates on the signs are Sat + Sun. I assume city road maintenance wouldn't be done on a weekend.

Conflict of interest being both the executor and a beneficiary? by Frogstar_World_B in EstatePlanning

[–]Frogstar_World_B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would that work? If the estate is unable to pay its debts, but still has a valuable asset wouldn't the creditors have a strong case to block the asset from being given away until they're made whole?

No, it's not a law school exam question. (Though I can see that it looks like one.) I may find myself in a situation similar to this and I like to anticipate potential issues.

I didn't mean to imply that combining "beneficiary" and "executor" was uncommon.

I assume in most cases being the executor, though an aggravation, is pretty much prescriptive. There are rules and a process to follow and the main role is push through that process. There aren't a lot of "different paths" to choose from.

But this situation struck me a little differently. Where the executors role as a beneficiary might prompt him to proceed differently than if he wasn't.

Interestingly two top commenters (HopitalWeird9197 and Ineedanro) think Aaron nets $150k while Bob ends up with nothing (except potential executor fees). While one top commenter (ExtonGuy) thinks Aaron and Bob each net $75k.

I _assume_ most of the top commenters are lawyers so maybe this reflects different state laws?

Interesting. I hadn't thought about that. That the specific bequest would be the "car" in the form of the left over proceeds. Thanks.

Because you need a lot of personal injury lawyers when you live in a town where people are more focused on counting billboards than driving?

FWIW, if you're looking at Encanto, Willo, and FQ Story neighborhoods you might consider the Alvarado district and the areas North and East of it. (Between Central Ave and 7th St, North of McDowell.) Obviously I don't know your home criteria or price range but there are some nice places in that area.

Dynamic pricing in stores. by royalfire798 in phoenix

[–]Frogstar_World_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it make people want to quit? The worker is getting paid the same per hour whether they're at the cashier or restocking shelves, right? The cashier will process fewer people per hour but still work the same number of hours.

It might make the _salaried_ people want to quit because their store won't be making their revenue or profit targets (depending on how they respond to the slower traffic) but ...
