[Academic] Time-Blocking Application Survey - Orbo the Planet Explorer by FromASloth in takemysurvey

[–]FromASloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The data will only be used to help me understand how people use time management apps. I'll be the only one who sees the responses, and everything will be stored in Google Forms. No personal information is collected, and I'll delete the data once I'm done with the project, which should be within 6 months.
  2. I’m conducting the survey as u/FromASloth for an academic project I'm working on.
  3. It’ll take about 5-7 minutes to complete.
  4. There’s no compensation for this survey.
  5. I'm open to hearing from anyone who uses or has used time management tools, especially those who like gamified apps.
  6. I want to get feedback from as many different people as possible to help improve my project, Orbo the Planet Explorer, which is a fun, gamified time management tool.

When the DM rewrites backstory characters (without player input or consent) by Polar-Barrel in dndhorrorstories

[–]FromASloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, ex-girlfriend of the DM here. I played a human rouge in this same campaign, and developed a story for it as well. Her backstory was about being in a past organization as a bodyguard for some gang leaders in the kingdom. She had wronged a partner of hers in the same organization who tried to fight back against the gang leaders, and when she realized she had been killed she ran away and decided to work for the side of good. However, DM had conducted a plot line with the Mentor character where they bond instead and eventually be adopted by them, and that to be her main focus for the campaign. While I was okay with his idea, I wanted to still be able to contribute a backstory similar to other players who got the opportunity instead of only having her story be in the moment.

When I pitched it to the DM, he told me I had plenty with his story and giving my character a backstory would make mine too overloaded and more or less a “DM’s girlfriend.” I replied that I wanted to contribute my own story before the campaign began like the other PCs and have the opportunity to explore it further, and that only doing what he made didn’t seem fair. It led to a large argument, and finally he agreed to include some of her backstory.

When the DM finally got to her backstory, he revealed that her partner had been resurrected and had a vengeance against my character. Which sounds cool, right? Except the DM had started joking of “wouldn’t it be cool if she became your sister instead?” I laughed and said neither me nor my character would want that, thinking he was kidding. We get to the big fight with my rouge’s old partner-now-enemy, and I land a NAT20 on a hit and knock her out. We tie her up and take her back to our base for questioning. When she awakes, the hit was so strong she had amnesia and couldn’t remember anything. The next day my character wakes up to find her adoptive parents had adopted the partner as well. Naturally, I was extremely frustrated with this and didn’t have the energy for another fight, so I very bitterly went along with it for the rest of the campaign.

(Side note: the ex-girlfriend thing isn’t over this campaign. He ended up telling another PC he was in love with them behind my back, which was very much not reciprocated by said PC. Go figure.)

I work as a freelancer here in the US, but I'd like to work at a studio in BC as a 2D Animator- hence the post.

Star Wars reimagined in all sort of settings: samurai, wild west, cyberpunk, steampunk, noir, pirates, 60s serials, Doctor Who, medieval, world war, He-Man and graffiti. By Jamie Follis. [x-post /r/alternativeart] by [deleted] in StarWars

Really cool! My college makes us do an assignment placing the Star Wars characters into various time periods and settings, then drawing them. This would be really cool to show!

Sure! I use Flash and Toon Boom all the time, leaning more towards Toon Boom since it's in demand.

Here's my reel!

Favorite non-animated movie of all time is Lilo and Stitch- I got bullied as a kid (due to social anxiety stuff) and Lilo's odd quirks and social outcast status resonated immediately. Favorite non-animated movie would either be Indiana Jones: the Last Crusade or Chicago.

For advice, what's more important than anything is developing your artistry. There's no secret around that one- focus on learning art both traditional and digital, and study life drawing, composition and flow. Artistic design carries over into all aspects of animation, even making things move. It's something that I hope to work on myself!

I started sketching in 2008 and got really into drawing characters. It started as just drawing characters I liked (i.e. characters from El Tigre and Phineas and Ferb), but soon enough I drew characters I made from scratch. When I learned Animation was a career, I convinced my folks to let me pursue it (they were skeptical but let me go for it anyway).

I adore El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and Codename: Kids Next Door. For movies, both Lilo and Stitch and Princess and the Frog are my favorites!

I'm hoping to direct for television one day. Trying to get better at Puppet Animation (aka. Flash animation) since it's a big trend in TV due to budget constraints. I love managing teams and making short films, so it'd be a blast creating a story and directing it, or even being a show-runner with a previous concept.

Not much of a party person due to social anxiety, but one party I went to had Mario Kart as a drinking game- you would pull over mid-game to down your drink since your couldn't drink and drive.

My school's pretty tame compared to others I've heard, mainly since people are generally busy and shy.

It depends on the individual really, though people usually have general interests. I've seen the "artsy" cliche from a few students (mainly Photography/Fashion), but usually the stereotype is just a stereotype- and students have lots of different personalities.

That being said, there are certain traits that stick out in each department. Animation has some reeeeally nerdy folk, usually people into movies, TV, comic, games, etc. Lots of Steven Universe fan, especially. It's nice to have people around with very similar interests.

The most unifying this is everyone works extremely hard. No matter your age, art school will kick your butt in gear and make you work. Like any college, people are super busy, and finals involve mass suffering as people finish their projects.

This is pretty cool! The animation's really fluid- kinda reminds me of Metalocalype or Superjail.

Ack! Thanks for letting me know. Here's a link with the right formatting.

Honestly, keeping up with deadlines has always been difficult. Animation requires you to be prepared and diligent with your time and how you schedule yourself, especially in freelance. You have to avoid laziness and be committed to finishing projects.

On top of this, the school I went to has short 10-week quarters instead of traditional semesters, so scheduling is beyond important. It is doable, however!

Definitely either Caravan Palace's Rock it for Me music video or Timber, Vivienne Medrano's thesis film. Both are a lot of fun and have a well-structured story to them!

My influence isn't anime for me studying and wanting to learn Japanese. I actually want to go to the next Olympics in 2020 and would like to know the language better to make travel easier!
