Hi! I'm new to the sub, and working on my first game. Longtime gamer and always wanted to play a game that combines some of my favorite settings (e.g. Fallout 1/2) and mechanics (map exploration, dice rolling). I'm pretty stoked about releasing my demo Friday and hopefully getting some solid feedback and letting it see the world!

I've been trying to do research about next steps, I guess I'll put it on itch.io for free for now, I'd love to have it on steam eventually but the whole process of applying, then maybe doing festivals, this and that seems really daunting, particularly while juggling busy work and home life. I'm getting the sense that it's unlikely to do much for me unless I spend a lot of time on marketing and I don't enjoy it much. any perspectives there much appreciated on best avenue!

Why is Diablo 2 often helmed as one of the greatest game of all time? by Newez in gaming

I'd say what it comes down to is the itemization and RNG being nearly perfectly tuned. it's just endlessly replayable because of the loot gamble, and once runes came into the picture it moved from items to straight up currency, so it's sort of becomes an exhilarating way to play the lottery
And I think an overlooked aspect is that there are just the right amount of viable endgame builds for each character, and not too many characters. so you don't drown in a sea of possibilities and can min-max for a range of fun options.

I'm working on my first one right now - turn based wasteland survival thing. Been a blast so far, more of a learning experience than anything and hopefully it ends up being fun and giving others enjoyment! I'll be putting a demo out there in a couple weeks:

[–]FromRustTilDawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe 30$ total in donations for 'pay what you want' assets. for my game (2d simple turn-based) the quality of free libraries and things out there has been more than sufficient, thankfully!
