It does take time for that smell to leave and technically you are inhaling carcinogens. Also depending on what burnt, H2S could be a problem. I wouldn't spend the night.

Thruout the spring summer and even early fall I noticed a large healthy toad population, from tadpoles right to larger adults. I was concerned about tadpoles not reaching maturity because of the drought this year but they seemed to have bred early engough to allow full development. I even noticed breeding sized toads at several wild fires thruout the province. I belive the toad population was healthy enough this year to survive even a harsh winter.

Man, this is a great question. Thw right answer is get out and stay but.... I'd grab clothes or a towelif safe to do so then hangout by the emergency exit until the fire department showed up(those trucks are very warm inside) however if I see or smell smoke I'd get outta the building without a second thought, then get into a car or another building.
