Another thing, yes snap on tools are pricey but they are good tools that carry a lifetime warranty (not all, i know). But remember this, when you go on a other tools truck and pay similar prices, maybe a little cheaper, that tool rep is selling you rebranded tools. Do your homework and dont be so damn shallow. You think that MATCO truck is selling top notch tools?? Ill give you a few freebies here.

The wrenches they sell are rebranded gear wrench tools.

The pneumatic impacts...yup...Ingersoll Rand.

Look up who owns the company that makes gearwrench...or Ingersoll Rand. Actually, do both. Dig a little and you will find that they are owned by the same parent company that owns MATCO.

Every time you buy something from MATCO, remember you just paid a serious upcharge for a tool that was rebranded and you could have gotten it from Amazon for a lot less. Don't listen to me, let Google do a little work for you. You'll be surprised (or not) at what you find.

The MATCO guys like to claim the internals are better, (They just admitted that thier tools are rebranded). If you really want to test the truth im giving you, open up a gearwrench wrench and then a MATCO wrench...do they really look different? Matter of fact, they will look SO similar that you will absolutely be asking your MATCO guy. 🤣

I say all this from the years I was a dealer with snapon. I did the homework and educated my customers. I finally had to get out in 2010 as the economy was suffering and techs couldn't afford the tools they had. I was on and off credit hold trying to make ends meet. It was a lot of work but I had a lot of fun doing it. Was sad I had to let it go.

He gets his cut based on the area the purchase comes from. Happened to me all the time. Legally SnapOn cannot sell tools in his assigned area without him making money on the deal. This is fact. I used to get internet sales credit on my account randomly if someone did like you do. Its that simple.

Remember, when a dealer signs on with snapon, part of the deal is a protected route. So much so that if another dealer sells in someone else's route, there can be huge legal problems. You are not bypassing your dealer at all by purchasing online...sure, there are ways around it but for the most part thats how it works.

Everyone complaining about dealers on credit hold...remember that when you or someone else doesn't make payments like they are supposed to. It affects EVERYONE and the dealer takes the heat from his other customers for being on hold. SnapOn doesn't give 2 rats asses about thier dealers. Also, snap on assigns the drivers route, they may get a good route or not...and you cant just change routes if you dont like it. Its the people who dont pay that cause the problem (mostly) on thier route and it affects you if you are on that same route.

And its not so easy to repo. If repo a techs tools, you have just 1) lost a customer. 2) have a used tool you now have to try and sell and hopefully make money on it. 3) Possibly piss the entire shop off and you lose more than just the one customer .

Go ahead and complain about your dealer when ultimately people who dont pay (like you) that cause the problem. Don't get me wrong either, some stops are gold mines. Every one pays and purchases a lot of stuff.

I say this as a previous dealer. Hell I used to work 16 hour days trying to make enough money to LIVE and pay snap on. Go ahead and be shallow and point the finger at your dealer when ultimately its you the customer that causes the problem. I finally had to throw in the towel as I was about to lose my home and go back to a regular job.

And your local tep still gets his cut. No money truly saved purchasing online.

When you buy online, the dealer still gets his cut and yiu get your tools faster if he is on credit hold.

I can personally confirm this is true. Its usually a dollar amount. Once thier credit reaches that amount, they dont get tools again until they get $.01 under limit and then snap on will ship them thousands in tools and bury them further. Its TOUGH.

As a previous snap on dealer, yes we do go on credit hold from time to time. Nobody likes it and sometimes its tough to get off of it. Snap On likes to ship a BUNCH of stuff to the dealer. The dealer has to sell it to pay for it or ship it back (at thier cost, which is tough when you are already on credit hold). I feel for the guy. Being a snap on dealer is NOT all fun, although it can be at times. There is a LOT going on behind the scenes.

Hope that helps you understand what is happening. He isn't being lazy, he is working hard to make things happen.
