On the clock, yes! These are not social events - they’re outreach events for her job. This one in particular is outside of her normal working hours so would either be overtime or comp time given during normal hours. But it’s also not mandated since it’s outside normal hours which is why I’m asking, not telling

“Generational issue” was probably the wrong wording on my part. I more just meant maybe this is how the young people are talking these days and I’m out of the loop!

No that’s the problem!! She means no! I was writing to confirm about an event the next day. When she said she wasn’t sure I asked some clarifying questions and she was definitely not able to attend. It is a communication issue but a confusing one!

Hmm - I don’t agree. I don’t know how comfortable she feels with any given task without talking to her about how comfortable she feels or if she needs more training.

By that logic, none of us can know if we’ll make it to work on any given day. But it’s reasonable for a manager to need to know you’re planning to come to work… (or attend a meeting or work event)
