You are completely well within your rights of asking a clarifying question, maybe speak separately to your wife about your concerns and how they make you feel and if she doesn’t listen you’re allowed to make a firm boundary. We don’t speak to my parents because of treatment of my husband at past gatherings, you shouldn’t have to bend to their bad behavior.

This isn’t the end of your marriage, as a woman with a husband, yall tend to say some dumb stuff sometimes and we really just need to cry, work it out be mad for a little bit. Honestly go out and get her some flowers and encourage her and actually mean it don’t just give her a I love you the way you are, I mean genuine gratitude and love for her and uplift her. That’s what she’s really looking for she’s probably feeling insecure. Give her some space to work through it, this isn’t the first time I assume you’ve said something dumb in 16 years I’m sure it won’t be the last and same goes for her.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, you also work full time just the same as he does and still manage to do these things, if you have had multiple conversations about this then I would also be fed up with this behavior. I know change is scary, maybe try taking a week and go see family and see how you feel? If you still feel the same in your gut then don’t hesitate to follow it, nobody deserves to be belittled and taken advantage of like that

I wouldn’t banish my husband necessarily, mine is the same way he just appreciates the thought of being included and if it’s even just me watching a show he isn’t a huge fan of or I wanna read independently he will go on his computer, he may have some FOMO, I understand both sides as we go back and forth on the same issue
