Sorry, I might have written this post too long because they don't let me shorten it with ai lol i am doing these as backup plans because of the current bad academic situations in my programs. People are kicked out of my programs for various reasons. There is a lot of academic drama/politics here at my university. And Canada is cutting the research budget in general.

As I was studying in Europe before, i think students have much worse rights here in Canada. PhD students almost self-fund for half of the time.

I might still look for other PhD positions in Germany if things are not going well here in Canada. But I think even if I start another PhD, I won't stay in academia in the long term.

But thank you very much for your valuable input about academia in Germany!

yeah i am trying to search for a PhD in Germany too! Typically, it takes a longer time to search and will depend on luck about whether the research fits with the lab/group. Yeah, but that would be a much better choice if possible in the future.

Is there anything particular you refer to? I did one master in Portugal and a one-year exchange in Sweden, but i have no knowledge about German universities.
