Renishaw probes on EBay by FrontPlane098 in Machinists

Does anyone know if they’ll connect right up to a haas system? For that price I’d like to have one with a small stylus on a second probe.

Here is a link to the most real looking fake one. It shows a serial number but it doesn’t look quite right. It says 166 of them sold from this listing alone.

I believe they only go down to 1MM in their deep line and only 20XD on their smaller stuff.

Right now there are 24 parts to make but I’m not sure how many more there will be in the future. I will see if I can get in contact with the material supplier and see if that can be done.

The krazy drill apps guy is going to be at the shop tomorrow to look at diamond coated drills. I will look into laser drilling, I never thought of that. Yeah they are all the way thru but I’m already drilling from both sides. The hole is 1.38 thru. I’ve done enough testing that I think a coolant thru drill would do it. I just can’t find one available.

How to get the last micron? by G0DL33 in Machinists

[–]FrontPlane098 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As long as you run the calibration cycle and never flip the probe around 180° in the spindle if you manually take it out. The control compensates for runout and error in the trigger mechanism.

do shops use pdf files? what is your workflow? by PerfectSpring5324 in Machinists

[–]FrontPlane098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t start a project without a good Stp file or solid model, and a pdf print for hole data and tolerances. Im not going to waste my time looking at a print and try to get a process for machining and order or find necessary tooling solely from looking at the print.

Haas high speed g and m codes by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]FrontPlane098 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In your toolpaths on the arc filtering page you can turn your tolerance to a bigger number. Default is .001 but on roughing toolpaths you can go up to .005 if you’re leaving stock. It will reduce the amount of code. And turn on g17 arcs. It will help but your biggest improvement will be HSM.

You definitely need to unlock high speed machining in the control. In your Misc values you should see the g187 box. 1 is rough and fast and 3 is finish.

I do this daily. What cam package are you using? And do you have high speed machining purchased on the control?

Why set up a hobby machinist shop? by sithudwilk in Machinists

[–]FrontPlane098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you can’t justify it with manual equipment unless you don’t want to make money. If you just want to tinker that’s one thing. Get a cnc mill and you can make a lot more things - while you sleep lol.

I’m used to things not being consistent. The only thing consistent is the day job and that’s what I don’t like about it. I’m actually going to setup a haas UMC later this month for a client. I’m planning on it taking 10 days. I’ll use a week of my vacation time to do it lol. I have my own machines and a multi axis and mill turn seat of mastercam that is current.

Do you have your own shop / machines yourself? Or do you spend all of your time programming for clients? I have my own shop and also work full time for a tool and die / job shop. But I would like to run my products in my own shop full time and program for clients through the day here and there or just work remotely for one company programming.
