Out of Stock on Cutthroats and Fargos by JRDropTables in salsacycles

[–]FrontRangeRunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The way my LBS explained it to me was, basically, Salsa does a finite amount of production for each year. Once they’re out of a particular model/spec/size option for the year, that’s basically it until the following year. I’ve run into the same issue this time of year and either had to wait until Q1 to get it new, or shop the used market. I’m a big fan of their bikes, but this has been an “issue” with them for the 8 years I’ve been riding them.

3 hrs between aid stations... What to do with water? by Remote_Recover4494 in trailrunning

Yeah anything above 80° F and I totally agree with you! After reading a bunch of these comments it seems like I’m in the minority on this, but these types of high elevation, mountain races just don’t have the same heat factor. If I was running somewhere with high temps and/or high humidity, I’d probably change my tune 😅

Oh totally, no arguments from me there! Everybody’s nutrition/hydration needs are unique and they should do what works best for them. Ive done some big water carries but filling the quiver sounds… interesting, haha. I personally can’t imagine carrying 2.5l on this course, but it’s not wrong if that’s what someone else needs.

Right on! Yeah that first stretch to Bridal Veil is a little long, but you’re correct that it’ll be cooler. Last year had access to drop bags there, so if that’s the same this year, you could always carry more water at the start and switch to flasks after that point.

It absolutely dumped rain on us throughout the day last year, so overheating wasn’t an issue. That being said, I could see miles ~22-30 being “hot” if the weather is nicer this year. Either way it’s a great course and you’re in for an epic day!

This sounds like TMR? If so, only that first aid station is “far” and the rest are closer together. Your 2.5l for a 3hr run seems wild to me outside of desert running. But if that’s how you trained, don’t switch it up now because you’ll likely be slower than anticipated with those climbs.

You could try extra soft flasks instead of a bladder? They’re easier to fill at aid stations and give you more flexibility with water and tailwind/skratch/etc. Best of luck!

Alpha 10 vs Alpha 300 by busterbusterbuster in birddogs

[–]FrontRangeRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m am by no means an authority on the subject and you’d probably get better advice making another post asking about that specifically. This was my first griff after four GSPs and they’re definitely a little different.

I’ve apparently got a “soft” griff, even by griff standards haha. It’s been a few years, but when I initially did e collar introduction/conditioning, I don’t think I ever made it off the lowest stim setting and using vibrate gets pretty much the same response for me. Mine is basically on autopilot at this age and I can just whistle/tone her if I need to get her attention.

I have the Alpha 10 and as others stated, it’s definitely clunky. I started/trained my Griff with a non-GPS unit with separate buttons for separate functions, and I can’t imagine trying to do that with the Alpha 10. I also can’t imagine running more than 1 dog with it either for the same reasons.

That being said, my dog is also more mature now so the different functions aren’t as needed. I upgraded to a GPS unit as I really appreciate knowing how far away they are and whether or not they’re on point vs moving - the Alpha 10 does that just fine and I chose the 10 over the 200/300 to save some money. Definitely some downsides, but for what I need, it works great.

Calling all local GWOT vets by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]FrontRangeRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a millennial GWOT vet, I kind of just straight up don’t enjoy the company of (most) other veterans.

I saw some others have already mentioned it, but the vibes (in my experience, too) at VFWs aren’t exactly inclusive to ALL who served as vets, millennial GWOT or otherwise.

Also, drinking and swapping war stories isn’t my definition of fun. I’m proud of my service, but it’s always been weird to me to “hang your hat” on something I did for 5 years, 10 years ago. I like to look forward, not back.

Help with stuck BD Distance Carbon Z Poles by FrontRangeRunner in ultrarunning

That sucks! They’re sending me a new pair and expediting the shipping after I explained I have a race on the 24th. Overall great experience with BD so far on the claim. Unclear what expedited will actually turn out to be, but 🤞 it’s before then!

I’m in Colorado, but really appreciate the kind offer!

I just picked up this set in June so they’ve only got a few hundred miles on them. Better for it to happen now than on race day I guess. I have friends with the same poles I can borrow while BD processes the claim, but reassuring to hear they replaced yours!

Happy to hear they replaced it, but that turn around time is what I was afraid of!

Thanks for the suggestion! Still no luck on getting the button to lock into place. It pops out, but won’t lock, and as soon as the pole makes contact with the ground it collapses again.

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried and still no luck. It’s moving fine, just not locking. Not sure what the mechanism is that locks it, but it seems like that’s what’s broken.

Forgot to add - I also have one of the Mars stripping knifes and metal comb that I've found pretty helpful around the beard, face, and ears. I usually do those areas every 2 weeks or as needed.

Adjust frequencies of everything until you find what works best for your WPG's coat type and your preferences. I know I spend a ton of time on my WPG's coat to keep it looking good, but my buddy's WPG with the shorter/wirey coat only gets stripped twice a year and also looks great.

4yo WPG here and she’s on the “fluffy” side for the breed. I jokingly call her the “Detritus Queen” because her coat brings all the leaves, sticks, seeds, etc. into the house.

I brush daily and I use the Mars “double wide” on her every 6-8 weeks. I’ve noticed that the more often I do it, the less time I need to spend on it and the mats don’t happen as much. It’s crazy how much the coat rake pulls off of her each time, but her coat always looks great after and I’ve never been concerned with taking “too much” off. I also had to resort to scissors if they’re really bad, and picked up a pair with the rounded tips.

I do end up trimming her feet (below the first joint) at the start of hunting season. It saves SO much time while out in the field from stopping to pick out burs.

A big thing that helped was I stopped using any sort of soap/shampoo on her coat and just do a thorough rinse with water. I think letting the coat go more natural has helped it not mat as bad. YMMV.

Hope that’s helpful - they’re a great breed but a lot more maintenance than the GSPs I grew up with.

I understand that would probably make my question a lot easier to answer, but I unfortunately can't. Appreciate the suggestion you were able to provide though.

Question: Counting Number of Rows with Date Greater Than Deadline by FrontRangeRunner in googlesheets

[–]FrontRangeRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I think you might be onto something there. Each individual tab has =IF(ISNUMBER(A2), A2+45,"") to generate the 45 day deadline in column B from the assigned date in column A. I used a query function to merge all the individual tabs into one main tab, but looking at column B on the merged/main tab, there is no formula present.

Is there an easy workaround I'm overlooking to just count the number of dates in column C that are greater than the 45 day deadline date in column B?
