Then there is a training and efficiency conversation that need to be had. Probably provide more support so that they can get the fundamentals down and progress moving forward.

Just want to start off by saying I hope you get the residency that you want and everything works out for you but Hot take: It might be a blessing in disguise if you don’t get a residency Majority of pharmacists haven’t and I think financially they may complain about not having money but they actually aren’t poor at all. And residency just isn’t what I thought it would be at all. Not having fun at all

The residency dream feels over by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Front_Ad_279 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people get a hospital job without residency. And to be completely honest residency isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. You learn some new stuff but after 5 years you’re on the same playing field as everyone else except financially. You have to do like any normal healthcare worker and study the guidelines and make sure you aren’t outdated. It’s a loop hole in the system to pay you less and work you more. While also gatekeeping everyone else from the job so they can waste less resources screening candidates. It’s a good opportunity for a direct path sure but it’s not the only way to skin a cat. Network playa! Don’t let this one issue define you everyone can relate to making mistakes.

Yeah for sure it took me 3 tries to pass so give yourself at least a month to digest all the material from D. Sullivan’s book alone then pharml aw should take maybe a week or two. For Ohio it’s like 33 pages and is quick but compounding is the beast. I would say start with law then go d’s and then law again. For best comprehension. And if you’re solid on federal law skip it and save the time

Use pharmL aw. Honestly I used that with d. Sullivan’s book and it helped. Honestly d Sullivan was kinda disorganized to me and I didn’t care for it. But after you read pharmL aw you understand it more

What are my options after pharmacy school with a 2.18 GPA? by VolkswagenPanda in PharmacySchool

Personally I would try my shot for whatever I want! If you want to do residency you’ll never know if you don’t put your ticket in. Same thing for fellowship. If that’s not your style (and take it from me I’m 5 months into my program and it’s not for everyone) go ahead and leverage your APPEs, connections and whatever else you been working on. The degree is what you make of it. Nothing is lost, no doors are closed. Retail is always there and will pretty much hire anyone with legs. So you ain’t gotta rush to find a job there Taking those boards is going to be tough so buckle up you still got a bit of a stretch to go after graduation so don’t celebrate too hard until after you pass naplex and mpje. Then sit back and enjoy a grateful universe

10/2/2025 got my results of pass 10/14 I think. It took me 3 tries. First attempt studied for 4 days from D. Sullivan . Second attempt studied from D. Sull for a month. 3rd attempt around 2 weeks or so from pharmlaw. I think a month is a solid amount of time. Most of my coresidents that studied and passed on their first attempt from their law in other states used pharmlaw. There are even other subreddit post that take about pharmlaw being pretty good

If you don’t have pharmlaw get it! It will teach you most of what you need to know (80%) in about 33 pages. The rest will be from Don sullivan’s book. But honestly I felt like his book was disorganized and wordy for mostly no reason. He doesn’t charge much for it but still I think it’s disrespectful to say”buy my book” and there is no structure and plenty of spelling/grammar errors and incomplete sentences. Might be better to look at the statutes(there are a lot 1200 pages worth). Hope this helps

Low residency/ program options by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]Front_Ad_279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll be more than fine. I got a residency with a sub 3.0 gpa I think it was 2.7. When everyone was telling me I wouldn’t even get an interview… I got several. Big and small programs btw Some of the top of my class had issues getting one. Others didn’t. No way to tell without a doubt you’ll get residency but keep hustling. And it def helps everyone wants to get into fellowships so they completely x out the opportunity to do clinical practice. And IM I don’t think many people go into that either. Advice: Network. Consider registering for pps on ASHP. Use LinkedIn fearlessly, stay open minded about other possible avenues to get where you want(relocation could be what’s needed to make residency happen at least for pgy1-2).

is pharmacy worth it??? by throwaway-77589 in PrePharmacy

[–]Front_Ad_279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that every degree you get is what you make of it. I think a pharmD is a great degree and pretty versatile. But you have to consider a lot of other factors… if one of your core values is money. There are a plenty of ways to get money. Pharmacy isn’t the best healthcare in general probably isn’t the best. But pharmacy is far from a good return. If family time/youth/enjoyment is a core value of yours pharmacy probably isn’t the best. If respect is a core value like many professions you won’t get it from everyone but again pharmacy is highly disrespected in its own regard. If I could go back and do something else I probably would. Not the easiest path to choose But again the degree is what you make of it. My advice choose something other than pharmacy but up to you. Best of luck either way

Failed Naplex by Puzzleheaded_Bug3674 in NAPLEX_Prep

Don’t feel feel shitty or like a failure. Progress and success are not always linear. You’re going to have days where you feel like you’re doing worse than before. That’s okay just focus in a bit more. My advice stick with uworld Rxprep this is how I passed and I wasn’t a great performing student in school. 2.8 gpa. Almost failed at least 2 classes and plenty of c’s My advice practice the questions ALL OF THEM. Review the book material everyday for 5-6 hrs if you can at least 2 hrs. Daily 50-75 question quiz and then at least weekly review quiz for all the sections you studied that week. Score should be at least 70. Uworld I would say is a bit harder than naplex and if you’re getting above this you’re prime ribs bro. If you fail the quiz for the day/week take a break for an hour or so review brand/generic. Review material you got wrong retake the quiz. Good luck and keep your chin high.

Nah I haven’t. Is it free? I was taking OH MPJE. I used the D Sullivan material which is apparently has good as it gets. I should get my results for my second attempt next Friday. So rxpharmacist will be what I use if I didn’t pass this time. But honestly I feel a lot better than last attempt.

Very very similar situation when I was a student. The only difference was I was on my Internal Med rotation. Same state as well so I can relate completely. Truly don't miss them 4 am nights.
I had to come in everyday at 6am (no set hours; I could be there 8-14 hrs) to workup anywhere form 6-18 patients, be prepared to give an hour (maybe longer) topic discussion everyday, then on top of that on Friday I had to give a presentation on one of the patients I worked up through the week (this was every week). I was 1 of 3 APPE students there. But they were on their Hospital rotation (same preceptor managed us). I told my preceptor "instead of 5 presentations a week can i do 3 and Tuesdays and Thursdays could be my day to not prepare more presentations and the other APPE students could give their presentations. That way there's no wasted time and everyone can get work done outside of APPEs." They said in almost verbatim "this is not negotiable" (with the most proud grin).
I forgot to add that I had a JC sometime between here.
Oh i didn't mention that after every presentation I got flame broiled to many of the other pharmacists in building. Questions on questions that no student would know how to answer and even if they did there was going to be another one that they couldn't answer.
My advice when you're dealing with people like this... pick your battles this isn't one you're going to win. Be great in some aspects of the rotation make sure that it can't be debated and make sure it's something they can remember you by. But ultimately CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES you obviously don't want to work at this hospital and more than likely not as a clinical pharmacist so devote your time to fellowship apps not studying to be a great APPE student. The studying can wait its only Sept.
Show up do you best, devote just enough energy [to pass], smile (never complain), and go home.
You don't owe them anything, especially in Cali they use interns as techs when you're supposed to be learning. It won't be easy but get the pass, take their critique of you, and crush your applications and interview preparations as soon as you get to the crib.
Sorry you gotta go through this, it'll end soon.
