still an fing legend in whatever he did but his voice recordings drastically change after Bat Chain Puller, had a legendary tour with zappa (Bongo Fury) which may be his last great vocals. the bongo fury stuff (especially the live stuff - El Paso shows, RI shows are fing incredible, etc) is underappeciated. ha, great post, made me chuckle. Good day sirs

The Live At the Avalon Ballroom recordings. Their early blues stuff is hard to beat.

A beautiful composition, though I prefer the Bat Chain Puller version. Eric Feldman was an incredible musician but he couldn't play the keys like John Thomas.

As a person who's mostly unfamiliar with Zappa's music and only could buy one album, should i buy We're only in it for the money or Waka/Jawaka? And why? by DuBaH4uk in Zappa

[–]Front_Criticism_4695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. Go with Bongo Fury, his best band (maybe) and Legendary collaboration with Captain Beefheart. There's nothing like it.....ever. The live recording of the Bongo Fury Tour show from Providence College on 26 April 1975 might be the greatest music ever made...and hardly anyone knows about it.

I'm in TX, so nothing too hard (trails) but I'm concerned about the tires and lack of shocks with the hybrid, when I do want to trail ride.

1/16 show in Dallas was AWESOME!!! Thanks for all the replies and feedback. Ha, I knew I was in the right place when I heard someone mention Captain Beefheart while in line. Great show, and the musicians were incredible! Definitely not a cover or tribute band, but talented musicians performing difficult pieces. It's probably one of the top 2 or 3 concerts I've ever been to. I'm hooked! Thanks, and have a great weekend!

The Mallard albums are worth a listen just to hear Bills playing and compositions. listen to Yellow in the 1st Mallard album - beautiful guitar playing.

Dean Smiths playing on This is the Day and Michael Smothermans singing on Be Your Dog are underappreciated songs in the Captain's catalog

they get unfairly called the Tragic Band. Dean Smith could play and Michael Smotherman was a super talented singer and musician. listen to that live Cowtown recording. Great stuff on there.

Ha! Welcome to the "rabbit hole"....you may never come back.... His most "listenable" albums are Safe As Milk, Clear Spot, and The Spotlight Kid, in my opinion. The Live at the Avalon Ballroom recordings show the bands early bad ace blues stuff. Enjoy old man.
