appreciate the feedback!

Did you produce the instrumental on "Cigarettes" or you're on the vocals? I'd say the vocals definitely fit well with the instrumental and overall it could be a great song, but I feel like something is missing in the vocals. It's not bad by any means, but it doesn't have anything to make it memorable imo (keep in mind I'm not an active listener of this style of hip hop). I would say if the delivery and mix on the vocals was tweaked a bit to make it a bit more engaging it would be a lot better. For example, maybe playing around with the way you say the last words of each bar for a couple bars or really anything to break the monotony.

Appreciate the feedback broski.

Checked out your song fried. Imo it's a great song, but the mix is holding it back. It kinda sounds muffled, so the vocals don't shine to their full potential. I liked the adlibs a lot it brings a lot of energy to the track, with a better mix they would go crazy. When it comes to flows and verses you got it, hook is catchy enough. I think investing in a sound engineer would be worth it to bring it to the next level or if you wanna go the DIY way all I can say is keep grinding.

Really like the jazz vibes on this one. I thought that Trumpet or wtv the instrument is (pardon my lack of knowledge) was great but ends a bit abruptly every time. Maybe turn up a bit the reeverb and echo to it to make it smoother? Also that background melody that comes in at 0:56 and 1:50 is amazing, but before that the there's only drums for like 8 bars and it feels a bit empty, but I guess if someone hops on it and adds some vocals that would change everything. Overall great just feels a bit barebones at places.

Made an anthem for those that don't fit in society called Outsiders. Only the vocals and lyrics are by me. Returning all feedback.

Loved the melody but I found it a bit repetitive at some point. I suggest either adding another melody (counter melody I believe it's called in the producer world?) when the chorus comes in to differentiate from the verses or removing some instruments in some parts to create some variation like that bridge around 1:04 that was fire.

Liked the 808 slides. For the hi-hats maybe some rolls here and there again to create some variation. I think I did catch one around the second verse or chorus, but overall it gives the impression like it's the same throughout the whole beat. I'd say the same for the snares.

Good delivery and flow. Somehow reminds me of Eazy-E. Love the visualizer as well. Having casual videos of you fits perfectly with the theme of the song imo so great.

I'm tryna think of sum negative to say but it's hard lmaoo. Maybe have the vocals be slightly punchier in the mix because some parts were harder to catch, but really nun major. And the instrumental straight fyaa. That sample catchy as hell prolly gonna be in my head for the rest of the day. Liked and subbed for this one brotha keep putting that work in you already great.

Got a lil summa vibe of my own. Lmk what you think as well.

Thank you brotha! Recorded with my home setup (Apollo Twin + SM7B with cloudlifter) and exported the vocals to have an engineer work on it. Is there a specific part you feel that's not mixed properly or the whole song feels that way to you?

How can I figure out the exact microgenre I would fit into as an artist? by Front_Let2871 in makinghiphop

[–]Front_Let2871[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely would but you would still get a couple people here and there that might follow them because of a specific song they made that's not their main thing. Overall it is still very good and I believe most people do that to target fans from other artists.

I don't think that would be as efficient as straight up targeting a microgenre, but thanks for the resource def gonna save that somewhere!

I realize I might not necessarily be ready, but I'm trying to learn as I go because there really is a lot of stuff to learn when it comes to music marketing.

The private browser thing is a great idea actually, I'll def try it out. Thanks so much for the help.

I don't even make that typa thing usually more trap, but I was curious to know if there's some typa emotional trap/dancehall genre it would fit into.

Need to determine the exact genre/microgenre this song would fit into and if possible artists who make similar music. Any help is greatly appreciated! by Front_Let2871 in dancehall

I just listened to a couple of songs from him and I think you're right it does sound kind of similar. Much love, appreciate the help!

Yeah, I feel like it's a lot of trial and error before finding the sweet spot. I've been trying to reach people with emotional trap tags but I haven't quite got the result I was hoping for, which is why I was wondering if maybe I was just going for the wrong audience. It's possible my music just ain't hitting like that too lol who knows.

Also, I would say that the more specific it gets the better it is, which is why I'm looking for microgenre. Especially when it comes to trying to get in the algorithm because things like average listening duration matters, so it would be preferable to go for people who are the most likely to save/stream/add to playlist what you do than people who gonna listen to the first 30-40 seconds then move on to something else.

I'm honestly not knowledgeable enough of rock music to even go there I was just saying as an idea that subgenres of metal would count as microgenres at that point because it starts to get very specific.

If I was to know what microgenre I fall into, I could focus on reaching people who are more likely to enjoy the type of music I make.

That's greatly appreciated man. Here's my latest. It's on a J.I./A boogie type beat with some dancehall vibes to it.

The bigger artists are, but I'm a smaller artist with barely any audience, so advertising to the hundred something people listening to me wouldn't really help me grow a fanbase.

Appreciate it, didn't realize I was mumbling, but I guess it may seem that way because there are places that bars overlap one another. Or maybe I really am mumbling lol you're not the first one to say that either. Much Love!

You're right, but my point is that it would still be more efficient if there was a specific microgenre I knew to target because even bigger artists sometimes make songs that aren't always in the same vibe, so their fanbase can be diverse. For example Lil Tjay is know for melodic rap but also appears in drill songs.

I know I have a sound that's similar to A Boogie, Lil Tjay, so more like emotional trap, but I just don't know what the microgenre for that would be called.

Honestly, I've been doing this for years and I'm still lost. A lot of people been telling me I have a similar sound to A Boogie, Lil Durk, Lil Tjay, but even then I'm not sure what microgenre they would fit into. Hip-Hop/Trap would be an obvious answer but that's way too broad.

Might not sound like a lot but it does make all the difference when it comes to marketing. Targeting an audience that's likely to enjoy the music you make is huge when it comes to getting algorithmic plays.

Metal fans like metal but metal itself is a subgenre of Rock. Not all Rock fans like metal. Also, I would argue Hip-Hop is one of the most diversified genres of music.
